Bomber Moves 2018

Sorry but I don't like the total silence coming out of Bomberville, but that's just me; I like action and news  like all of you.  Yes we've extended a contract or two and we are distributing the year-end money before the 2018 salary cap  comes in.

But what are the deep thinkers in our organization planning to do?

I hope they are not thinking status quo; that never seems to work out well. Unless we are dedicated to making sharp improvements here and there, I believe we atrophy from last year.

After the 2017 NFL cuts were made did we bring in any linebackers for a sniff? I saw other prospects up here but maybe I missed something.

We have got to fix what's broken and I think somehow management must know more than we do ... we are good prognosticators with our comments on this site but I would like management to show us up.

We are not hearing a lot of news out of the Calgary and Edmonton football clubs so maybe our Blue Bombers are an elite club now (as we join those two in their silence).

But man I hate twiddling my thumbs as I wait to see what our local gurus are going to do. No news is bad news, say the bored ...  Well at least were not coming off seasons like Ottawa Hamilton and Montréal had.

So maybe I should be grateful for our club and its management.

Say what you will about Mike O'Shea but no one can ever overstate how valuable he has been in turning around the perception and culture of this franchise.

  • TSN1290 reporting that SK offered the most money, but he chose Winnipeg.

Maybe. Couldn't they just put him on the suspended list if they wanted to keep him and free up a camp spot?

I think the issue is roster spots.  After his injury they loaded up on receivers in the draft. Who do they cut when he comes back?  Are we really going to carry more than 4 Canadian receivers on the roster?  Im assuming Wolitarsky, Simonise, Petermann, and Demski on the roster. There's also Henry, Blaskco, Thera-Plamondon and Pierre to think about for dev roster and practice roster.

Ruthless.

This is an area where the league needs to institute an injury settlement policy. In a case like this that it happens in the offseason there should be a settlement but it doesn't count against the cap.

shocked about Wolff...possibly he has some NFL interest again..

Not too bummed about Wolff ... I like the idea of Tharold Simon better anyways ... also like Travis Howard ... but who knows, I liked Prewitt too

I won't be surprised if those two will be the next cuts... that's the dreaded "Mike-Liked" curse 😁

Travis Howard's not listed on our roster page anymore...

Any guesses on who emerges at the two open DB spots?

I hope Mike doesn't like me... or Rich will cut me here. LOL!

Barring any injurey in TC, this move pretty much put Simonise and Petermann in the active roster.

Both are high picks.
Simonise is highly-skilled and got some looks down South.
While Petermann got a good combine and will definitely figure in ST early on.

Unless, of course, anyone of Henry, Thera-Plamondon and Pierre beat them.

Demski and Wolitarsky to start. Simonise and Peterman to backup. Not sure who makes the pr.

Or maybe we carry 7 OLs (Spooner being the 7th) to cover in case of an injury.

And just go with Demski, Wolitarsky and Simonise.
Harris/LaFrance technically rotates as the fourth Rec. Petermann goes to PR.

At this point I'm confident Demski, Wolitarsky, and Simonise will be on the opening day roster.

Thera-Plamondon and Tyrone Pierre are pretty much exclusively special teams guys (but could make the roster as the fourth NI receiver based on that).

LaFrance may factor into the receiver picture at times, meaning we only dress one backup NI receiver.

Petermann and Henry could both use some practice roster time, IMO.

This was liked by Darren Cameron. 🤔

Just sayin’

I'm curious if the Durant shitstorm has left us with any additional cap room.  I know we're out 70k... and we still have to pay a backup QB but the total salary is likely much less than Durant's.  Say the new backup salary is 120k less than Durant's, then that gives us 50k to play with.

Some funny math no doubt, but the general idea being we may have a few bucks to throw at a stud like Bighill.

Personally, if I were Walters, I'd be calling the league and saying that whatever we spend on salaries this year, we expect that we'll be forgiven 70k of it.  It's not a team's fault that they might have to pay a douchecanoe tax, and there should be some way of making that right.  In golf you have a mulligan, in the CFL call it a Durant.  Everyone (except the Riders) gets one Durant.

I will have to see a full assessment of every single players' hair, and the hotness of their mothers, before I agree to any of the above.

I am by no means a cap expert. I would think it freed up a good chunk of cash for us though. I would not be surprised to see a couple other vets pushed hard by rookies though.

Itll depend a bit on teams play. If they use petermann and or simonise on the return team or on teams in general they are both locked in. Those two plus wolitarski and demski are not cemented, but they will be bloody hard to beat out. I imagine that is who will be ahead on the depth chart to start camp but you never know. Should be a great battle. + we have some very promising young imp wrs that could push us to adapt the ratio else where.

Very unfortunate. I thought he was going to be in the mix at WR.

I wish. Does Bighill deserve to be the highest paid International Defensive Player in the CFL?

A few years ago, maybe. Its hard for a MLBer to deserve to be the highest paid defensive player in the league. Now should the bombers be willing to over pay, and or risk a cap wrist slap? I would say yes. Our vet talent is peaking. We cant expect 2+ years more at this level for a bunch of guys. We no longer have a proven vet back up qb, we have the cap room and we have missed out on 3 major impact mlbers. Bear woods twice in the past year and a bit.

Randle is 29 dressler is 32 harris is 31 mo is 31 bryant is 32 nichols is 31. Dressler has had his injury problems, mo is coming off one of the biggest injuries in football (short to medium term/career term) Nichols got banged up a bit last year with a better ol in front of him then right now. It is reasonable to expect that in 2 years half those guys will be gone. + the possibility that some one like poop could be gone in that time range to the nfl as well. (idr the length of his contract*)

Now is the time to risk it and make the moves to win today. Im not saying empty the cupboards and go all in, but we need to be a buyer. Not a seller or inactive.
