I hope TSN hire Friesen as Lawless replacement and call the show - Hustler and Know-less

Don't anybody say that Lawless isn't a fan of the CFL. That guy's clearly been a fan for a really long time, including a stint with the Argos in 96. Dude LOVES the CFL...

That's pretty surprising. Big loss for local sports coverage.

Wow, that is huge.

no the jets have to send laine over to vegas.

Really, really unfortunate.

Best connections in the city, and I don't think there's even a close 2nd.

Any big sports news, particularly the 2 best leagues; NHL & CFL, Gary is the guy I go to for an opinion.

H&L has been in fine form for some time, but really enjoyed the show the last 12 months.

Big loss. That stings, Vegas.

Lawless isn't dumb. He can see what's happening to sports media in this country thru the cuts by Rogers, Bell Media & Postmedia. He could have awakened next week with no job. Here he has security which he probably never had with TSN.

It may have taken awhile for me to really appreciate all the scoops and inside knowledge that Lawless have put out over the years, but man, that's going to be quite a loss - information-wise, for all our CFL fans..and beyond. Who knew we were going to miss that mug?

Anyways, it won't be long before he puts his unique stamp on all things Vegas.

Viva Laws Vegas!

Couldn't decide what forum to put this in, because he covers a lot of bases, but wow.....Gary Lawless leaving to take an content-producer ( the same job Tait's doing for Bombers), with the Vegas Golden Knights....

Along with "huge loss" by atomic, sweep the leg "big loss", Floyds "expansion draft", rebusrankin "this is huge", I'd like to add, that Lawless leaving is a big deal and leaves a huge hole in our local sports commentary. On the other hand with Lawless casting his shadow n the Vegas sun, maybe we get to see Sarah Orlesky step into those big shoes as a backup. She's not entirely happy living in his shadow, so to speak.

Damn. Any chance we can dig Don Wittman up and re-animate him?

Let the speculation begin as to who takes over with Hustler.

I'm itching to do a larger person joke.....but I can't.

A lot of Lawless-haters are going to really miss him and his insight.  Must have been a heck of a deal though.  He had to be very well compensated here and being one of the prime guys on TSN?  And basically the media king of Winnipeg?  Vegas must have offered him a ton of cash and a lot of benefits.

Good for him.  Quite a meteoric ride over the last few years.  And Vegas is awesome.

A bit strange to have someone mostly known for being an "insider" working for a team. Was never a fan of his writing, and he's not going to be providing the scoop on the company's dime.

Gary was a real good Jets fan (putting it mildly) now he's going to have to pump the Golden Knights...He's going to be conflicted...go into a funk and have to drown his sorrows at the casinos...Stay away from those food bars Gary and oh yeah....good luck

I'll be the negative one in this thread.

Lawless was connected and did provide some insider info with the Jets.    It will be a loss for getting some "scoops" on what Chevy is thinking.

That being said he was absolutely useless on the radio... Hustler does 90% of the talking and Gary really doesn't provide much info or entertainment with their show.

He also barely had any interest in the CFL.

His shoes can easily be filled if TSN makes any sort of effort replacing him.

If you ignore the street people and the thousand or so who are living in the storm drains, well, yes.

Ill disagree.  And here's why.  Lawless never ran off half-cocked.  The key to appreciating him is reading between the lines.  And was very insightful with analysis.  And while Hustler is great, he's not a journalist or insider.  And he's a fan.  Gary was not from Winnipeg and he repeatedly said he was not looking at things like a fan.  He'd play devil's advocate a lot.  very entertaining.

H&L was always better when Gary was on.  He will be missed a lot.

So how does TSN replace him (both as the Winnipeg correspondent and on 1290)?  Reassign someone from somewhere else?  Bump up or offer the gig to someone locally?

To be honest, I dont visit the storm drains and the street people never bothered me.

What a great job, an hour and a half or so away from Los Angeles and the endless numbers of things you can do there..... Good for him.

Next stop LA Raiders?

Onward and upward Gary Lawless.
