We could certainly setup a new forum for Winnipeg Jets / NHL talk.   I don't think it will ever get as busy as HF Boards for Jets talk, but if there is interest, it is relatively easy to setup.

I like reading the free press comments from all the "fans" they are usually hilarious and somehow expect that we should trade a mediocre player and in return get a top 5 player and that the only reason the Jets have not done this is because Chevy is to scared to pull the trigger.

I think Chevy is doing a FANTASTIC job so far , his draft picks are mostly doing great (Sutter the only real bust)  and the shedding of the dead weight guys over the years and retaining the promising young guys has been A plus so far.

I wish Winnipeg *fans* had some patience... the team they acquired was a complete mess and had zero prospects and not many assets.

The team has some fantastic guys who will be NHL ready in a few years and with the current group of young guys we have it will be a very good mix.

The only players this team should think of moving I think would be Kane and Pavelec and nobody else.    I'd like the team to give Kane one more season before righting him off....  the guy doesn't seem to be progressing and aside from skating fast and wiping out in the corner he really doesn't do much aside from taking half ass shots and missing the net when he is open.

I think Jets should stay the course and the fans should give them at least 2 more seasons before expecting NHL Playoff caliber team.

We wanted to send a reminder out to members of the board to be more aware of what they post on people in the public eye.  This can include players, coaches, members of the media, GMs, etc.   While it is valid, welcome, and encouraged to constructively criticize their work, name calling and derogatory insults are starting to get out of line.   Whenever you post something, consider the impact it would have on that person or that person's family.   You don't appear any smarter by putting someone down to get your point across.   Also, if you don't think a thread has any value, making a post in it to say that the thread is dumb or shouldn't have been made is really not necessary.  If you don't like the thread, don't post, don't read it, and move on.   This kind of nonsense at best discourages people from posting, and participation, at worst it creates a negative vibe to the board.  If a thread really isn't worthwhile, it will either be deleted or it will sink to the bottom of dead threads.  You posting in it, just draws more attention to it.   This site has not been heavily moderated since it opened, mostly because everyone here has been really great with good football discussion, and a great attitude.  We would like to keep it that way, and ask that you help out by taking 10 seconds before you hit the Post button to re-read what you've written, and perform a little self moderation so we don't have to.   We thank you all for your continued contribution and support. If the CFL were even close in money to the NFL, I would agree that players should play out their contracts.   But seeing the discrepancy in salaries between the two leagues, the short career window of professional football  athletes, and how they risk their bodies for our entertainment, I have no problem with releasing a player early if they have a legit shot at getting on an NFL roster.

While we may lose a few star players every year in this manner, if the CFL is viewed as a viable stepping stone to get a shot at the NFL, then we will attract far more talent then we will lose.  Most of the guys that are in the CFL are fringe NFLers at best.  Let them take their shot at the payday, most eventually come back.

I know the argument is that these guys wouldn't have a shot at the NFL if it weren't for the CFL, their careers would be dead.  But if you owned or ran a company and an employee of yours came up to you and said they had an offer to make 10 times what you are paying them, would you really tell them no?

I hope this incarnation of Ottawa succeeds, I don't want to see them fail, but I think it has been proven over the last 10 years that the CFL can afford for Ottawa to fail.  The league has gotten to the strongest it has been in decades without Ottawa.  And while it may need Ottawa and another Eastern team to grow further, the league certainly won't crumble if Ottawa folds again.

I know I often ragged on the guy for what he did here as a player, but I definitely always wanted to cheer for him. I'm glad he's leaving the playing field on his own terms and I honestly wish nothing but the best for him. Definitely a class act human being. He held his wedding social last weekend and I've never seen a host be so gracious towards all the guests he had. He made a point of shaking every hand possible towards the end of the night. I kind of expected him to just socialize with his close circle of friends that night, but he went out of his way to make sure every single person there knew he appreciated them being there to support him. Classy guy all the way.

The league is the healthiest it has been in decades.

The players deserve to get paid, say what you want for 6 months work, but these guys put their bodies on the line (with the real threat of long term injuries) and have to leave their families behind.  They deserve to be fairly compensated.

I'm not saying to go back to the structure that almost bankrupt the league in the 90s, but a salary cap tied to league revenues only makes sense.

I think it is pretty naive to think you can judge the leadership impact a player has on a team based on what you see from the field (where you are watching from either your living room or so far away you can't hear what the player is saying) or post game interviews where 99% of the time players are simply giving canned responses.

Leadership is displayed in many different ways.  But you need to be with the team during practice, on the road, in the dressing room at half time, in the work out room to see who are the leaders on the team.

With the access (or lack of) that fans have to the team, they have to rely on what other players say or the media (who typically get their insight from what the players say or observations from being closer to the team).  At the end of the day it is only the coaches and players who know who the true leaders are on the team.
