If he doesn't get another NFL camp invite, he should be here for camp. He got a lot of workouts and no offers. It's hard to say if that's a good thing for camp, but it sure seems like a bad thing for him since he doesn't have one currently. If he doesn't have a plan to be here for camp and doesn't have an NFL camp invite, I'd be shopping his rights hard. If he gets another NFL offer, I'd be shopping his rights soft and be looking to flip him as soon as he was willing to come up mid-season. Mid-season QB drought is real. Having a guy like him is an asset to a desperate team. I'm not losing my mind over his lingering down south. The amount of time he's spent out of football and off the field, the time it's been since he played a regular-season game, all of this reduces his value to me. You expect a Canadian QB who played CIS ball to be up here fairly quickly if you draft him. Choosing to sit out for workouts, a UFL non-roster spot, and NFL combine cup holder raises red flags about his intangibles. And he needs to be a high-intangible guy to succeed. He's a depreciating asset hiding behind some smoke and mirrors. The whole thing hasn't come apart, but it isn't far from happening. It is far more concerning to me that we gambled a 2nd on this guy and didn't seem to have a hot clue about this.

It seems like our worst fears, finishing a point or two out of a wildcard spot, is coming true. Waited too long to go on a bit of a run.
  6. I think we all agree these mocks are usually terribly inaccurate... but I'll take this and even Hodge's mocks.... because, at the very least, it does provide some insight into the prospects at this years' draft... also, agree that any content is good content at this time of year...
  7. iirc this is wallace’s last year on his rookie deal. I would be open to moving wallace, but only for a younger equally high upside ni ol who will be under control for a while. Well that or a qb but i don’t think there is a qb on the market to make that deal. Vaccaro and henning are extremely high upside guys available. I hope that we grab one of those two.
  8. If I'm Walters, I'm not trading Wallace. We seem to lose our OL after their rookie contracts run out. We need to stock up.

  12. I'd love to see him start as well, as I dont think the sum of all the parts with us going 3 imports on the oline and sacrificing a key one on defence makes us better. Now if Osh actually uses his Canadian youth on defence at linebacker, as well as Bailey in rotation and we draft another kid who isn't just a teams only ever plug but a potential starter/high upside guy to ease into the defence then yeah maybe it could make sense....But we all know Osh and how he works his roster, and until I see otherwise...I have zero faith he will...let alone knows how to maximize his roster with the best players, and then actually use them

thing is...sure he knows the Canadian game...but the leap from CIS to CFL for a QB...the speed...the nuances...processing what his eyes think they see....everything is just massive....and why for most part we rarely see a Canadian born and exclusively trained ever make the jump. Would realistically take them 3...4 yrs to just become serviceable...and by that time was the juice worth the squeeze....nope. He just pushing any possible development and success further down the road, and may never even get to realize it...Personally....if we could get some real good return for him at the draft...I'd dump him off elsewhere he's made 5 weeks of per diems for a first yr player in an NFL TC...thats it...thats all....a paltry amount and would have made more sitting on our PR or as QB 4on the 1 game IR all yr learning in a pro environment, and could still exercise his option to try the NFL again this spring if he got a camp invite

This is one of the interesting bits. Someone talked about wasting a draft asset (the Bombers got from playing Canadian players anyways so might as well YOLO this one) but the Riders took Rourke, who is two years older, has 2 more surgically repaired knees, and has already fulfilled one year of his ELC sitting on the 49ers injured list. Elgersma could have signed here after he got cut from GB, tolled a year of his contract and tried again in the NFL window, but now he is looking at 3 years of the national minimum before potentially hitting paydirt. This whole thing feels like fool's gold for Elgersma, but being a bit contrarian is it really the worst thing for his development? It's not like he needs to learn the Canadian game, it's all he has ever played. Glancing at the CFL CBA there really isn't much opportunity for the team to do anything with him until Rookie Camp opens... which would be after week 6 of the UFL schedule. Surely there could be worse things a potential QB3 could be doing with their time than hanging out on a "pro" roster for 6 weeks. In theory he could decide that the visa isn't coming at that point and turn tail up here and make it in time for camp?
  15. 3 points
combo of all 3 me thinks...but he has gotten some bad guidance since the 2025 CFL/NFL season ended...Dude in all reality has had no real significant play time since his last University season...and his one NFL camp and the position on depth chart he was at...got no real developing there either...and his couple workouts after that again amount to nothing...Likely was about 20 mins of showing of/how he can make the common throws in the NFL game and what kind of ball he threw...He could have got more useful work playing flag football in a beer league up here
  16. I think it makes sense for both parties to wait on an extension. Next season the Bombers a losing some salary along that line, its very likely Neuf and Stanley are done for 2027, Eli is a guess imo, especially if they were able to draft a couple strong rookies. If Wallace continues to improve, you have the $$ to lock him up. If he doesnt improve, you can set his $$ at a better number. Its a risk either way, but I dont see the harm in waiting.
  17. 3 points
we should sign him if we can to an extension. Compared to other teams we seem very reluctant to sign players to extensions other that Zac and Id much rather sign a young player with potential than someone on the down side of his career.. If we cant sign him then trading him for a high draft pick to select a replacement would be smart

I don't care about that as much as knowing how much of a profit the Bombers made this past season. Just wondering when the financials will be released.
  21. I believe that Wallace is in a really good position career wise if he chooses to stay. He's not going to find any other OL around the league with a probable starting OG position up for grabs where he would be considered the heir apparent. I'm not sure it takes a huge increase to keep him either, he only has limited play time at this point.

awe he’s dirty award to continue another year you can only learn so much from sitting and holding a clipboard. His biggest challenge is getting up to speed vs the massive step up in calibre from cis to pro. hes not going to get much for reps as the pr or qb3. He’s going to pretty quickly find him self stuck in a spot where hes not good enough to be a qb2/1 and can’t get enough reps/hands on coaching to grow as qb3/4.

Should have waived Nyquist and the old guard earlier in the season and left Chib Salo and lambert up all year. Jets were 9 3 1 with the kids then Scotty went to the vets and we sucked. Got slower. Noticeably. Since the Schenn Stanley Pearson trade the team is noticeably quicker and dominate at times. I don’t think they make it cuz la playing Nashville currently. Someone getting 2 points there so still 3 back but if they do I really wouldn’t want to play them round 1. 55 81 Josh and Helle can win a series.
  26. 2 points
I'm not saying he's going to be anything but the handwringing over him trying to make it down south is nuts. It hasn't been 2 years yet because he was drafted less than a year ago. If he sits out a whole year again then ya he's wasted 2 years.
  27. Hopefully we draft guys who project as starters or at worse rotational players and stop picking guys solely for their st prowess.
  28. 2 points
yep. I wonder if the team knows that. He's getting some thing now atleast for development. Not just sitting on a couch waiting for a call and doing the odd work out.
  29. Yep, this drought has been worse than the post season one. One of the few things you can count on in the cfl is draft is teams rushing to pick OL. Once the first one goes, we will see a run. And we will see teams reach to get them. Top end of this ol draft is pretty strong.

I recommend travelling, I've met many many people in Winnipeg who have never visited anywhere and are completely oblivious at what the world is like elsewhere. I can't remember who was #2 or #3 on the least desired places to play, but I'd imagine Edmonton would be near those numbers. -30 winters, absolutely zero night life, Canadian dollar, higher taxes, the worst "outdoors scenery" as in it's boring and flat, worst amenities for richer people, country bumpkin atmosphere, below average places/entertainment for families.... why in the world would a 25 - 30 year old single guy with money and/or guy with a young family want to pick Winnipeg vs 30 other options that offer far more. But in your opinion one single poster on a forum who speaks nothing but the truth is the reason why a free agent would decline signing with the Jets. Not to mention for years it has been reported that lots of players have Winnipeg on the no trade list for destinations. Chevy has a huge disadvantage compared to most other GM's when it comes to bringing in players to the team. To put your head in the sand and say it's the poor attitude of someone like me is a huge case of loser denial. Unfortunately the truth hurts. Chevy takes what he can get... if Chevy as the GM of Florida, Vegas, Utah etc... he'd have a much easier time constructing a team.

Elgersma listed as inactive unsurprisingly. Has missed 20% of the UFL season waiting for his visa.
  34. This would be a great time to give him a pay bump and lock him in for another 2 years or even more. but it would make more sense for him to bet on himself and play it out. especially if he has a strong camp
  35. I like the Vaccaro pick for us and the OL future's pick. Not sure about that WR due to the reasons @wbbfan stated.

Elgersma's agents as well as the wee lad himself obviously think they are too good for the Bombers & the CFL. With that kind of thinking by the kid's entourage what could possibly go wrong? Just one effed up football career. If Elgersma doesn't play in the UFL but continues to try out for NFL teams instead of coming here then it'll be time to trade the hoser's rights away to some other suck..... errrr..... CFL team.

New Rourke was a gamble for sure, though his high ability to reach his ceiling is much, much better than Elgersma's. Even with the injuries. It almost always makes sense to take a low-cost shot at a high upside QB. It's been an extremely long time since the QBing in the cfl was in a good place. It's certainly not the worst for his development. If he gets another NFL camp invite and preseason action, it's probably best for his development. Closely followed by if he came up here right after being cut last year. His chances of making an NFL roster are basically zero. He could make a PR, though that would leave him in a tough spot for next year, where he still won't make a roster and also won't be able to develop more on the bench. Pay-wise, yeah, he is walking himself into a minefield. By the time he is out of the rookie Canadian money range at this point, his NFL window will be damn close to closed. He hasn't made much since turning pro, and he's barely played. That's rough to dig out of.

From everything I've read, the talent in this draft is very deep, but almost TOO deep in so much as the GMs have their work cut out for them trying to figure out who will actually ever play in Canada... Sounds like a lot of guys will end up down south for at least some time.
