Game 34: Colorado's On Fire(literally)
Noeller and 2 others reacted to MrFreakzilla for a topic
Fans are hilarious. One bad season will not result in a firing. The Buffalo GM just got fired after 5 losing years. The 2 GMs before him each had 3 years. Like it or not, Chevy is going nowhere unless he wants to leave. Anybody thinking otherwise is either naive, stupid or both.3 points -

Yep..as i said take it with a grain of salt. It is overheard chat in physio room. I don't mind Condell at all. He's a good experienced OC. He is what we needed2 points -

Condell has had success with good RBs in the past. He hasn't run an offense that leads he league in rushing, but he hasn't ever had the best back in the league or a top-tier guy either. I mean, the RBs kept starting a WR at RB rather than bringing in a real one. As others have said, I have to believe that with brady locked up on a monster deal, that part of the due diligence was making sure Condell would fit in here with the balanced attack at the very least. Also, him constantly being behind other offensive minds and running other systems, I tend to think he will either run the successful stuff we've had prior to the last 2 years or has some great ideas and hasn't been able to fully show them. It's far from my favorite pick for OC. But at the very least, I expect a good improvement. Yeah, Hogan and Buck in his last year really seemed to be at odds and out of sync with Zach. He was furious so often because the calls from both came in ridiculously slowly. Which means you break the huddle late, have to rush lining up, and get significantly less time to survey the D in the pre-snap read. I can't emphasize enough how important an extra 4 seconds breaking the huddle are. Little on if you break the huddle and start lining up before the D. We used to reap huge advantages from being set way ahead of the D, and running any play out of any formation. That has been completely gone for 2 years. Not only does it make it harder to pass and run RPO, but it also makes it harder to protect the QB. \ Condell, as an OC, gets a C grade from me right now. I worry that it will be a high-floor, low-ceiling pick, but time will tell, and I am fine giving him the benefit of the doubt. He also worked very well with Dru, which bodes well for fit with Zach imo.2 points

we've had guys on this very forum joking about doing a Tonya Harding to certain bomber players. I'm like 99.9% confident those are just dumb jokes but it's a world of crazy motherfuckers making lunatic headlines out there and so I'm always a little 👀 when I read that stuff.2 points

Yup...experienced it first hand...and seen it happen too...The Arland Bruce and Troy Mills incident still is one that sticks in the ol memory bank quite vividly1 point

If he sticks for 4-ish years, even without becoming a regular starter, he could make enough money to retire. IF he is fiscally wise. And if he doesn't have that burning desire to play football. Neither of which is a tremendous chance imo. If he doesn't become a starter down there, I think he will be up here. The only real move could be if he forces a trade, which I think has happened a time or two but it is rare. And as it is, he would be better served coming here if his NFL window closes. Marty is extremely prolific as an OL coach. Over the next couple years he'd have a much better path to playing here, coaching, and mentorship.1 point

100% agree. I mean, the missing all of camp thing is really strange for a guy who was basically the insurance policy at OC, and was a HC not long ago. Must've been some really serious family stuff. Going from that to being away from home for the majority of the season is a lot to deal with. On top of that, we saw flashes of toxic narcissism from Hogan every time he opened his mouth, which was not even frequent or long in length. I shudder to think what he was like to work with. From what I saw, it firmly looked like the play call duty was taken from Hogan and given to Jackson very late. But we never had a proper install or repping to go with the playbook. Certainly, the strangest occurrence during the Mafia era. We took so long that half of our candidates took other jobs. It sure seemed like Jackson was going to be a 1a 1b with Hogan, before camp.1 point

I think he may have been the choice but with that personal issues he had to deal with..they bumped OC Guy up in the interm...as just choosing him as unqualified as he was...seemed an odd choice...with maybe the gentlemen agreement that JJ would take over when he got here...and then we renaged on it kinda?? The whole thing seemed odd and we did interview experienced guys...and guys with solid coaching resumes...and then went with that maroon?? Like wtf1 point

I'm trying to be as optimistic about Condell as possible. I have some reservations, but at the same time, I expect the floor for our offence to be miles higher than it has been the last 2 years. If we can balance what has worked from the Lapo-Buck era and what Condell does well, we will be in a great position. I wonder if Jackson is back at QB coach, if he is not, I would love to bring in an ast on O that can help lock in what we have done well. A guy like Pete Costanza would be great.1 point

yeah, you look at how Buck lost his shine here right around the time that our OL hit the skids and Collaros started tossing tons of picks -- then he goes to BC where he's got the legit MOP, a good back, receivers five deep and a line that can pass protect ... and now he looks like a genius and we'd take him back in a second. Crum surpassed my expectations last year. Showing steady upward progress. Wonder what his ceiling is? Would be happy to see him at QB2 in blue.1 point

Cap wise, I agree that this is the best position we’ve gone into the off season in in a long time. And you have the ability to fix your cap year to year. If you have the will to do it. We have a few awful deals, but the cap growth and off season turn over makes it workable. Wj, is one of the worst contracts in the league. Dl is one of our biggest positions of need. Idk if we will actually spend at dl though. Zachs lack of consistency and quality concerns me more than his pay. Yes 600k is a yikes. But it’s not like we have a comparable guy available for 400-500k. The only way up for us at qb, is going young. And that is a very risky and lengthy process. These guys we will see what they got. I have to imagine with the timing and cap space left that we have them front loaded deals that won’t hit the cap hard next year. Especially with the importance brady put on guaranteed money. With the current market demski probably goes from too expensive but very effective to a good deal. Even with a raise. We’ve had opportunities and money to spend. We just haven’t done much to invest in league free agent. That’s the big moment I think we are all waiting for. To really see if we’ve changed. Moving on from some one old is inevitable one way or another.1 point
