Around The League Regular Season Discussion

Per @JDunk12: Esks, Riders talking trade. EDM wants No. 1 pick Josiah St. John AND a first for QB James Franklin. SSK, coherently, declined.

Ed Hervey vs. Chris Jones is going to be a real thing to keep your eye on over the coming weeks and months.

To reach for two first round picks, including No. 1 overall, in return for a back-up QB with a handful of pro starts is... hilarious, really

Don't expect a team to make a move that helps another team win midseason.

I'm sure the Als and Riders have no issues giving up their QB if it helps them long term.

A little different for Winnipeg and Edmonton, being in direct competition with the ARgos for a playoff spot.

What if you traded Willy to Toronto then go and get Glenn from Montreal?

Just keep Willy.  I'd sooner go with Davis than Glenn if we need to win a playoff game.

Nichols isn't playing well enough to just hand him the job with no other reasonable options in wait.

Well his career win percentage is significantly better than .250 and his win percentage this season is .200 so either way you're wrong

In Blue and Gold his record in games he started and finished was 12 and 29, so his record is not .250, it is .360- not much better, and not enough to inspire confidence. You can say, "yes, but" and cite various factors, but as John Madden said, "You are what your record says you are".

Hearing Toronto QB Ricky Ray's out rest of the season with a punctured lung.

Yikes...gotta wonder if the end is nigh for ol' Frito....

That's crappy. I love watching Ray play. Awesome QB.

This may be the end of a great career. The injuries are piling up and the bounce-back just isn't there any more. The league is the poorer for the loss of such a warrior.

If Jones moves on from Durant then the Mike Kelly-fication of the Riders will be complete. Getting rid of your established starter without a proven guy in the wings, that's a move that will change the Riders from a losing but semi-competitive team into a team that's unwatchably brutal.

(I don't think the Riders are as far away as others may think  ... they've got a QB and some Canadian talent, on paper they're way ahead of where the bombers were in 2014.)

And yeah, it's a bummer to think that Ray might be at the end of the line. Him vs. Calvillo in the 2005 Grey Cup was the best CFL game I've ever seen live.

If Jones dumps Durant, as stupid as that might be, it will signal to the Rider fans that he has officially descended into dementia.

That's a scary injury. Gotta think they'll be wanting Drew even more now, although I still can't see us trading him for anything short of a massive overpay.

Ol' Reliable Kevin Glenn is probably available if Popp decides to go with Cato & Adams. I could see Glenn in an Argos uniform. I mean, why not?

Durant provides stability at QB so it helps the Riders evaluate the talent around him. It would be smart to keep him.

On that note, I hope Jones trades Durant.

Riders need Durant to give them some credibility, while the roster is put back together, for at least 2 years.....

Where are you getting your numbers ?  He is 10-15 for a .400 winning percentage.  Still not great but no need to make up fake numbers to prove a point.

I can't remember the year, but one season he was absolutely heroic for the Esks, playing behind a shoddy OL. IIRC he threw for 5000 yards that year.

I want to hate Ray but I just can't he's just too good and a good guy too.

They benched Glenn for Cato, and would have to surpass either us or Edmonton.

Benching Glenn was Montreal waving the white flag on this season.

Glenn has been brutal for most of the season.  Playing him is waving a white flag.

I'm a more interested in Cato than Glenn, to be honest. If Crompton is healthy I would trade for him. I believe he has 8 wins as a starter.

But I have no problem with Glenn coming here as a backup for a lower $.

Winnipeg Free Press article July 26th, 2016 cites Willy's CFL record as 12 and 26. Feel better now?

One of my most level-headed best friends is a Riderfan (we all have flaws we overlook in our friends) and he said, "If Jones dumps Durant, even to not extend him, I'm going to drive to Regina and poop on his lawn myself."

I doubt he'd be the only one.  And there's a whole fanbase who has easy access to manure and manurespreaders.

No because it's wrong.  He played 17 games in 2014, 7 in 2015, and 5 in 2016.  That's played in, not started and finished, just threw at least one ball.  29 games.  Where does 12 and 26 come from, I don't know, but it's incorrect.
