Around The League Regular Season Discussion

Per @JDunk12: Esks, Riders talking trade. EDM wants No. 1 pick Josiah St. John AND a first for QB James Franklin. SSK, coherently, declined.

Ed Hervey vs. Chris Jones is going to be a real thing to keep your eye on over the coming weeks and months.

To reach for two first round picks, including No. 1 overall, in return for a back-up QB with a handful of pro starts is... hilarious, really

Riders will sign both. Give huge bonuses to them and release in the next 2 weeks don't worry.

So is the CFL supposed to pay an arbitrator 100k+ to sit and do nothing for 95% of the season just so the 1 or 2 suspension appeals can be heard in a timely manner?

The CFLPRC and the CFLPA provide the Commissioner with a list of arbitrators. There are some arbitrators that hear appeals involving Western teams and others who hear appeals for Eastern teams. The arbitrators are paid on a per case basis.

Right but if you wanted one available to hear a case within days of it occurring rather than 8 weeks, you would have to be paying them to be part of the CFL's full time staff.

The whole point of an arbitrator though is to be independent of both parties.  If they were on the CFL payroll, then ultimately they would report to Orridge, and would defeat the purpose of the appeal.

Obviously they would be paid by CFL and CFLPA jointly

ummm, ya, no one keeps arbitrators on staff...  As has been pointed out both sides will have people they would prefer and part of the process is to find someone that both sides can live with.  And circumstances of the case at hand can have an influence on who someone might want as an arbitrator, so no, having an arbitrator on staff wouldn't work.  Arbitration takes as long as it takes.

That's the point.  I'm saying it's not feasible.

Sinkfield is a good player but we do have plenty of receivers ...

Sounds like John Chiles is off to Hamilton

I think I'd take Sinkfield over Sheppard and Davis.

He's still got one life left.

Tonye-Tonye has to be released twice-twice.

Dressler I think

Hearing the bombers are close to a deal with Tony Tonye Tonye

Terell Sinkfield would be a nice add. 1000 yard receiver last season and can return kicks.
