The tipping point on football talent 30+ hits extremely fast and drops right off a cliff. That’s happened to us.

Nailed it with this. We have like 10-12 gameday guys under 30 and only 1 player on the whole active roster right now under 25 (Clercius) and 1 on the 6-Game (Garbutt) That’s not sustainable in any way.

Dru would be pummeled behind this  o line without Brady also.

Danny Gallivan was the best hockey pbp announcer.. If Don Wittman had he been an American working on a US Network doing pro footabll, college or the Olympics then he'd be mentioned as one of the all time greats. He could do football, hockey & track & field at such a high excellence. To me, no one comes close to these two as far as sports broadcasters go in our country.

not sure how this managed to jump threads…

I always thought Wittman was unparalleled.
The last 10 or so years of Cuthberts career I feel like he got near that territory.

I can’t name another announcer on that level, not in Canada anyway. I always liked Mark Lee after those two, but not even close.

TSN always had second rate announcers before Cuthbert jumped from CBC in 05 or whenever.

He could be, but I’d argue at this point in his career he has more mobility and quicker decision making to overcome some of that poor oline play.

In particular that pick Zach threw over the middle wasn’t because of pressure, he was just telegraphing it.

Same with the underthrow that was picked in the endzone against the Als.

He wouldn’t be holding the ball and trying to force it down field.

Bingo. Brown is generally more cerebral as a qb as well. Zach is a force it down field gun slinger.  He’s more susceptible to suffering from pressure on style alone. Browns release is quicker and he’s more efficient at reading the D.

That pick over the middle was classic Zach. He’s always thrown ones like that.

The underthrow pick in the end zone against the Als he had a dlinemen right in his face.

have we even seen Brown face pressure yet in his career? I don’t know how you can say this with such confidence based on such a small amount of playing time he’s had. Let’s see how he does over a full season where he certainly will face more pressure that he did against the bombers 4 remaining dlinemen

You’ve clearly missed his first several appearances. Especially his first year appearances.
It isn’t a small amount of playing time that can’t be used to gauge him, it got him the lead of a franchise and qb1 money.

His first year he looked terrible. I’m not saying he’s not going to be great. It’s just too early to say.

He did. And he was roughed up to a great degree in his first several games. He’s been sacked in the cfl the equivalent of one good years worth of protection but with out one years worth of starts. His sacks per games with decent snaps is actually not great, because when he’s been in teams blitz like crazy.

He doesn’t need to be great to be a better decision than Zach, he basically just needs to not be a bust. If his ceiling is Matt Nichols average he’d be a better pick.
We have seen enough to know he can manage a game, drive the field on the last possession to win a game, beat the blitz and take what the D gives him. All things we have seen from Zach in about half a years worth of games.
He can also beat teams deep and complete any pass on the field.

Final drive: 1st and goal on the 7 with a chance to win. This is a classic Chris Streveler situation. Some misdirection and then you run run run. Why didn't they do that? Totally mystifying. I hope the media asks Buck/MOS about that this week. Can't let them get away with play-calling such a pansy-a** finish.

I have nowhere near enough knowledge to suggest what might be wrong, but from a simple fan perspective, this team seems "off".  It just doesn't look like the Bombers from a few years ago.  The fire and determination just don't seem to be there.   And they really don't seem to be prepared.  For me, much of this has to point back to the coach.  I've never met Coach O'Shea, but the way he deals with the press, who are asking questions on behalf of all of us, has always come across as very condescending.  It's not something that's going to endear him to a lot of people.  That's ok when we're winning, but isn't going to hold up for long if we regress.  I hope he finds just a touch of humility and turns this thing around... soon.

kind of goes hand in hand when a team has same coach...for 10 yrs, and said coach doesn't evolve or change things up ...even just a bit.....gets old...and it just doesn't sustain....especially when you stick with basically 90% of the same roster, many aging, and don't allow young blood to step in and carve out a role, or bring new enthusiasm...I've seen it 1000 times before

Edited by Booch

I think the coach / team have evolved, but not for the better. If only he had continued to do things the way he used to, then we'd still have the hard hitting team that wore people out.

Osh hasn't evolved until he "had" and was told to do a few things, or he was gonna be outta here....and that was what?...2018ish???

He figured he had created a winning formula and that was all he had to do...2018...2019...thats a looooong time ago...we were just fortunate to squeeze a few extra seasons out of that due to elite top line talent in it's prime, or just coming out of it's prime....which was able to mask the holes in our seconf teir talent....all the while letting possible successors walk out the door clinging to basically what was/is the past....and even that success was glossing over a lot of troubling things. To the point of where we are now....and personally watching him on sidelines...in pressers....how practices have been the exact same.....listening to some of what he says...like really listening....I don't think he has a clue now/yet.....let alone an answer

They would’ve put Prukop in last year but not Streveler in this year

The winning formula to me was draft OL and bring in top level FAs every year.
We stopped doing the former for whatever reason and Collaros contract, and maybe a couple others doesn’t allow us to do the latter.

Imagine Browns deal instead of Zach’s. This past off season, just for a hypothetical, we’d probably see BOLO and/or Bailey back, either Grant, or could have snagged Jovon Leake, and probably a Pete Robinson or a Malik Carney to replace Jeffcoat.

You can’t do anything paying 600k to one player in the CFL.
Christ, we just saw Mike Reilly’s career get ruined over the same situation just a couple of years ago.

This is 100% true and super bizarre when you put it that way.

For some reason Collaros last year in Hamilton popped into my head while driving.  0-8 until finally replaced.  Kent Austin kind of similarly stubborn.  June Jones switches up the offense to a Run and Shoot look around Masoli and they take off.

You'd think at some point he'd realize that he has to be willing to adjust to what the needs of the offense are.

I don't think you'd see BOLO or Bailey back because they were chasing expanded roles that they wouldn't get here.  Bailey would at best be 3rd receiver here.  BOLO is stuck behind Demski and Wolitarsky.

You would have seen money shift to the D for sure.

If anything I think they would have kept Hardrick.

Agree with all of that. Of those two, bolo is the one I wish we couldve kept. He's got the upside, demski is old and has had a lot of injury issues plus I don't see woli playing into old age or a wheel chair.

I wonder if we still would've jumped into FA and brought in a big time player on D, I kind of doubt it. But that would've been the move imo.

Idk, Yoshi is over the hill cant stay healthy and to pay him drastically more than big stan isn't in line with how we do things.

Thats a good point. That was an ugly stretch of games too. At Zachs age though, I don't think changing will happen.

If we moved on from Zach in the of season, we could've traded him for a significant value as well.

I don't think 600k is crippling, I think what cripples us is how many fringe guys we pay premium money to. Like how much we spent between augustine and BO last year. Also, ach has taken a reduction in salary to the 600k. I'm guessing he is in the 550k range now at least, which is pretty standard. Right around 10% of the salary cap.

Biggie is making 165, WJ 200k, lawson 140k, jake for sure north of 100k, kramdi making 140k, neuf north of 100k for sure, probably 240 between bo and augustine this year, 3 of the top 4 wrs combining for around 740k. We have a LOT of over paid guys, even sergios hard money is a good chunk more than any other K/P in the league coming close to 150k.
