I was in Saskatoon recently.  Can't say that I felt all that safe downtown.

When you say "not safe" do you mean "I hope I don't fall and break a hip" not safe, or "I hope I remember where I parked my car" not safe or "I hope those kids don't go on that lawn" not safe?

Either Mark Twain or Pinball's dad.  Not sure which.

Samuel Lenghorn Clemens' non de plume was Mark Twain. He took the name from the calls sounders would make as they threw out measuring weights on lines at the front of Mississippi steamboats to determine channel depth. The channels changed yearly so had to be re-marked every few months.

TORONTO — The Canadian Football League (CFL) has released the following statement on Monday regarding on-field celebrations:

“We are amending our policy on on-field celebrations to prohibit the use of alcohol or drugs and the mimicking of the use of alcohol or drugs or acting like a Roughrider fan.”

(OK, I may have added a word or two)

Damn... Argos totally classless. Trestman deserved better...

Quote

As Trestman held the phone to his ear, he was typically expressionless. Nobody knew he was being let go. He told nobody. Embarrassingly, he listened to a man he barely knew fire him for reasons that still don’t make a lot of sense.

He was told not to be at wrap-up day to bid his players well later that morning and not to meet with his coaches. He essentially was escorted out of the building on the phone and was told not to return.

Yeah I figured it was not Popp who did it either.  Popp may have gotten a little bad in his GM business, but no way would he treat his good old friend like this.  If Toronto sucks for the next 10 years, they'll have deserved every bit of it.

It could still happen sure, but it appears Mr Brock Sunderland is unwilling to pull the trigger and would have to be thrown out by the CEO first before Maas got dragged out by the chain he tied to him.

You may well be right- the next week or two will tell.

no It was more like "I hope that junkie doesn't stab me" not safe. My buddy there works downtown and now he carries a knife when he walks downtown.

It's just one of those strange offseasons ...

Well I mean offseasons for the teams not in the playoffs.  So Trestman gets fired and not allowed the usual formalities of the situation.  I mean, I can understand why they felt a change was necessary, and I get that not getting along with MLSE management was probably going to make it a done deal.  But it really bothers me that a guy who at least got one more Cup for Ricky Ray, and then had family suffering from illnesses this season was not at least allowed to give a press conference.

Meantime, that disgrace Kavis Reed still has a job, and so does Sherman in MTL.  And then no changes in Edmonton as of yet either.  I mean, I know there's still a long time to go before next season and all the offseason moves are made, but one would think if MTL and EDM's coaching jobs were going to be open, the coaches there would have been sent packing by now.

RE: Trestman.

They could have allowed him to do the exit interviews. I understand the need to move on but it seemed to be handled improperly. Classless.

I agree that Reed should probably lose his job but that's conflating two separate issues.

Firstly, it's not at all unusual to wait until after the Grey Cup to make changes.  Secondly, why is it that in every other post you are screaming about somebody needing to be fired?  It's almost fetish-like.

Ridiculous, especially considering way more people here have wanted O'Shea fired and have been way more vocal about it than me.  Ridiculous post is ridiculous.

He isn't wrong, though. Teams do tend to wait until after the Grey Cup to make decisions based on how the chips fall around the league. The exception this year just happens to be the Argonauts, who crapped the bed by firing Trestman so recklessly.

my immediate thought when I saw that headline.... 'oh geez... does Popp think he can coach again?  this never works out...'

Teams make announcements before the playoffs all the time.  There’s a moratorium the week of the Grey Cup.

I wouldn’t treat Trestman as a victim quite yet.  Sounds like he went a little tyrant this season and basically went against the wishes of the front office repeatedly in his roster decisions.

He’s also yet to develop an even adequate QB in this league.

They also make announcements after playoffs all the time too.  The point is that you can't necessarily read anything into the fact that someone has or hasn't been fired yet.  Some teams actually will think things through for a bit and wait to see how things shake out elsewhere before tipping their hand.
