Around The League Off Season Discussion

Well that loss stung last night. Not happy with the decision to kick the FG but that can be discussed elsewhere :) All in all there was a lot of improvement this year over last year and looking like they are trending upwards. If Walters can pull off another great draft and some more key FAs this offseason I like our chances going into 2017. Who is on the FA watch list and what areas are we in desperate need of fixing?

The Bombers really need to kick the Riders ass sideways in their first game in the new park to set the tone for the season and send their fans off on the crazy train.  Nothing else matters.

  • Riders haven't lost yet so their fans feel emboldened to venture out of their own little bubble. Won't have to wait long for them to scurry back into their holes.

Didn't the Bombers recently sign Glenn January as an O-line assistant?

He was in consideration for the gig, but I don't think they ever announced anything final.

There's been no announcement from the Bombers. There were tweets that he was in town about the job but nothing about his being hired.

And that tweet comes from his buddy Steve Morley - who knows if it's serious or not. But I like January to take a step to be an assistant OL coach.

Never seemed to be made official, could be a camp thing. Would also be a fantastic guy to bring in to that role.

Doesn't January live in Winnipeg year round now? I'm sure I've seen him around town a couple times this past year.

He left town about 2 weeks ago.  More like 12 days.  Just before the groundhogs showed up.

The consensus out of Edmonton is the Esks have a balanced schedule, with five games over the summer months and four in the fall (Edmonton Sun)
One of the most thought of OL - Derek Dennis, appears likely to hit the open market as he and the Stamps reportedly remain far apart in talks (Gary Lawless, TSN).
– Abdul Kanneh, one of the league’s top shutdown halfbacks, is expected to garner plenty of interest if he isn’t signed before free agency (CFL.ca).

MEANWHILE in Saskatchewan....
Rider fans are doing their damnedest to debunk Dunk. Everything from slipshod reporting to erroneous dates to, once again, trying to discredit a fine organization such as the Riders. 'Somebody is leading Dunk down the garden path with bad info.' And so far, no confirmed sightings of Johnny Football in Regina.
MEANWHILE in Toronto....
Rumour is, because the Argos have no GM, players in Free Agency will be given a special twitter account and a text message number to apply for a roster spot...? - Jest the Facts.

I responded to a post about Walters, why are you changing the subject?  I also never said Walters didn't do a good job either. I said don't get carried away. Shologan was a miss and had a poor year. Smith did nothing either, Dressler didn't light the world on fire in between injuries but had a ok year. Cummings was a flop.  Nichols was a good move, Harris was a good move. I think Walters has done a decent job overall. As far as the Riders go, I'm not here to defend some of the moves we have made, in fact I have made better choices drunk on who to take home from the bar, LOL

A thousand yard receiver who missed a good chunk of the season is just okay? Sure.

Why in the world would anyone want to sign in Toronto without a HC/GM..

New owners, but there is no evidence yet that they're better.

Two reasons: one-they will pay money and two-couldn't get on anywhere else.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Dennis in Sask.... they should have the cap space to offer big money and desperately need help on the O-line...

I'd be curious to know what the sales pitch is in Toronto right now... how do you sign free agents without a GM or HC... there's no direction and player have no idea what kind of system they will play in...

Not like we can claim that either.

Expecting #TiCats to heavily pursue DBs Abdul Kanneh and/or Jerrell Gavins. Cheaper option could be Ronnie Yell. Regardless, DB = huge need. Eric M.

BC - Wally Buono has managed to get 12 players re-signed, including star linebacker Solomon Elimimian and Canadian offensive lineman Hunter Steward. In free agency, look for the Lions to address the defence.  3 key free agents: DT Mic’hael Brooks, WR Terrell Sinkfield Jr., DL Jabar Westerman
Calgary - 2 key free agents: LT Derek Dennis, WR Marquay McDaniel
Edmonton - 3 key free agents: RT D’Anthony Batiste, CB John Ojo, RB Shakir Bell
Riders - Look for them to attempt to add more talent in the trenches, which could mean trying to steal Dennis and Johnson away from the division rival Stampeders with big-money offers.
Bombers - 3 key free agents: LB Khalil Bass, WR Tori Gurley, DT Euclid Cummings. ?‍?Expect a quiet Fee Agency from them.
