Not that it matters but I was hoping strev would take #16. It’s just such a perfect QB number, I can’t explain why.
Same reason fast RB’s should be #22 and power backs #32. It used to drive me nuts that Freddy Reid wore 32 lol

Were you my coach growing up?😉 I started out with the number 22 when I played running back, and then switched to 16 to play quarterback, I agree the perfect numbers!

I took a little trip over there myself and I thought it was very touching that they were worried about what the Bombers were spending.😁

Considering they’re making everyone the top paid at their position that’s a little rich. Only in their wildest dreams could they imagine getting Schoen for 230

I’m genuinely baffled at some of the reactions in here lol have we just turned into a ridiculously spoiled and entitled Rideresque fanbase who thinks everyone should take less money for the honour of playing here?

The Bombers just signed the MOP finalist, MOC winner to a two year contract in the prime of his career. Take the hometown element out of it.

MBB members, with no information on other offers, negotiations, the Bombers’ internal cap, how much other players get paid, how much the Bombers were anticipating paying, how much Brady asked for, where we’ve spent or plan to spend other dollars, where we’ve saved or plan to save other dollars or really genuinely any information about anything at all other than just a bunch of retweets from guys they only trust if the information suits their narrative: “tOo MuCh”

    what?

Agreed. He most certainly took a small discount. He had one of the greatest rushing seasons in CFL history, he’s still in his prime, and is Canadian to boot. We are a privileged fan base for sure.

So how much does Brady Jeffcoat and the sp teams guys open up $$$ wise.

I get we prob gonna have a few on the minimum but how much do we actually save when for every guy you let go you need to replace. Can’t replace all these guys with minimum salary

Mike Miller was making 95 k last year, moving on from Jeffcoat saves us between 165-185, Winston Rose/Brandon Alexander are both around 100 grand each. Lots of money freed up. I think the Bombers were happy with a lot of their young guys stepping up in the secondary so that’s a lot of money for those four guys alone. Plus some of the restructuring from guys like Demski, etc there should be plenty of money available.

I was thinking back to how much stuff I bought after the gc wins and how busy the store and site were.
This off season and last hasn’t been nearly as busy and it occurred to me that while the gc wins brought huge financial win falls for the team, gc loses likely have cooled it.
so I’m buying a New Jersey, hoody, shirt and hat. For the jersey I’m gonna wait till fa is over, since it’s likely to be either Brady or schoen if they sign.
So buy merch! What are you gonna get next?

My girl friend had a pair of season tickets, and we started dating in July  and she took me to every single game and refused to take payment so I planned on getting her a jersey as a thank you. Schoen is her favourite player so waiting until he signs a three year deal with us to bite the bullet 😉

Good deal for Dru. Nothing but respect for him. Whether it was coming in and driving the Bombers for a game winning drive against Ottawa or coming from behind and beating Edmonton, I will always have fond memories of his play here in Winnipeg. The kid always to me had a pro ready arm. He could make those cross field throws with ease but this year I noticed the game started to slow down for him and his decision making really improved. Sad to see him go but not expected. He’s earned the opportunity to be a starter in the league.

Kongbo will be just another player strung along by teams offering the moon and then cutting them loose before the bill is due.

That's something you rarely see from this club - I hope players/agents recognize this when negotiating with Walters.  Yeah, another team can sign you to a bigger deal but will you actually collect that money?

Great point, how often do we cut guys before bonuses are due? Almost never. Loyalty is a two way street and its reasons like that why guys are willing to take a little less to build the best team possible.

Getttin there is a feat in itself....Is it safe to say we learned valuable lessons these last 2, and can bookend 2 losses with 2 wins...6 straight appearances....still a damn good run and yes....still a dynasty of sorts....sadly we should have had won 4 in a row as both these games where there for the taking...we just choked on various levels

I don’t want to hear the D word. I think that’s part of the problem. I can appreciate the accomplishments for sure but that’s now two years in a row we lost as heavy favourites in similar fashion by getting punched in the teeth and out worked by a team that wanted it more.

about time to start this thread, and we'll give the first word to Our Man Tait:

I would be okay moving on from a large portion of these players, and re tool. Being stuck with a roster that hasn’t been good enough to get the job done for the past two years and is only going to get older and rake up a larger portion of the cap to me is the wrong move. We still have a talented enough core to build around but we need to bring in some fresh blood. It was nice a lot of guys have taken discounts to try and get the job done with this current group of players but it’s time to retool on the fly.
