At least he didn't call them the Ottawa Rough Riders like the PA announcer did!  Patrick Swayze last week, Rough Riders this week... any guesses who's coming to town for the next home game?

Have you even bothered to look at any of the pictures of the flooding? There are highways closed because of flooding. There are a number of communities that have declared a State of Emergency. Brandon's been hit by the same storm and have also declared a State of Emergency.

    Here's an underpass in Regina:

You guys have no idea of what a total schmuck Mike Kelly was.

I can't blame anyone for not wanting to play for him.

Burris was the only starting QB available at the time.  Same goes for Collaros before him.  We then made a trade for Willy, and he was the only FA QB available for us to negotiate with.  Technically speaking, of course...

And that's just it. People crapped all over Mack for not bringing in experienced players. Now we are (and lets not forget, it's a work out, he hasn't even signed a deal) and people are still crying. You can't have it both ways. Is Romby the player he was in 2008 for us? Obviously not, but for those whining and complaining about our scouts, these are the same guys who had Drew Willy evaluated higher over Burris and Collaros (regardless of what anyone thinks about how it all played out) found Paris Cotton, and have brought in guys like Maurice Leggett and Bruce Johnson, so forgive me if I take their evaluations over the geniuses implying the entire scouting class this year was a failure.

I love that so many of the people on this message board have a better idea of what a player can offer versus people, you know, actually paid and traveling to various areas to scout talent. Throwing our scouts and regime under the bus before games are played? Give me a bloody break. Unbelievable.

Can we either make a 2009 thread or go to a forum that was around in 2009 to discuss Mike Kelly and his battles with players?  This is the cuts thread.

Kerwin Bell is the NFL's historical QB Rating leader.  5 for 5, 75 yards, 1 TD, 158.3 QB Rating.

In the CFL, Kerwin's claim to fame is spiking the ball and sacking himself.

Small sample sizes from the NFL mean little in the CFL.

Sask and Ottawa were more prepared.  They had 5 more days of practice and one less game prior to this one.

People, we have to remember that we have a new coach, new DC, new MLBs and a new defensive system.  Wild, Kuale, Newman, etc. need to get used to the DL and where the gaps will be for them to fill on running plays.

Another concept lost in this whole negotiation is that the league has increased the number of CFLPA jobs by 12.5% with the expansion, and are proposing even more job increases with the expansion of the 42 man roster.

This shouldn't be taken lightly.  It will result in extended careers and opportunities of the CFLPA members.

Goodness no.  Their "sacrafice" was conceding on moving from a revenue sharing model to a cap model for player salaries during the last CBA negotiations.  Moving back?  Go right ahead, as long as the numbers keep the CFL healthy and sustainable.

Is the CFL strong right now?  Absolutely.  Strong isn't an objective word; it's a word that can only be used relatively.  In the PA's minds, they are trying to act like the CFL is now a roided up Russian weightlifter.  Nope.  The CFL is strong now, in the sense that life support is no longer needed and the CFL can now resume life as a carefully monitored outpatient.  That might be a minor miracle considering the amount of time it spent in paliative care in the 90s.

Did the PA buy Bomber Booster certificates in the 90's to help prop this team up when it couldn't afford to pay it's bills?  No, that was us, outright giving donations to a football team and not even getting a tax deductable receipt for it.  The players need to choose their words carefully at this point.  The fans are the CFL, plain and simple.  For 100+ years this league has been a gate-driven league.  If the players keep making careless comments that sound like they have no perspective of where this league has been and how amazing it is to have survived at all then I have no choice to stand by the owners, who at least understand that we are not that far removed from a finanacial tipping point.  I'm guessing almost every CFL fan wants to see the players get more money.  I sure do.  But it does not sound like the players give much of a hoot about the long term health of this league or what it took from the fans to get to this point.

IMO the players don't have a lot of choice.

    1. There are no other leagues that they can work in.  They would have to displace arena league players, and earn a lot less money.

    2. Hamilton and Toronto (and BC) can show historical and recent cash flow issues.

    3. League revenues are nowhere near level across the board.  Saskatchewan can make huge money (fueled by clothing/jersey sales), where other teams are either barely breaking even or starting out (Ottawa).

    4.  42 man rosters and 80 players on each pre-season roster, currently in shape ready to play.

At the ned of the day, I was very, very impressed with the CFL's stance and how it was described in Mark Cohon's letter.

Traffic/transit concerns on day 1 set aside, my sole issue with the stadium was with the concessions.

There was never really any way to tell where the line started, or how many lines there were on the go, unless you were at a place like Schwarma Khan or the Mini-Donuts where they had ropes in place. Then when you finally placed your order, you weren't given an order number or receipt or anything like that... you were simply asked to go stand to the side with a throng of other hungry impatient people. As orders came up, the first people to get served were whoever was the pushiest/most bastardy. The concession employees would just take your word that the food you grabbed out of their hands was the food you paid for... I bet there were plenty of people walking away with someone else's food. Honestly, it couldn't get much worse. I wish I could say it only happened once.

Fortunately, several times through the offseason the Bombers called me directly, and I was able to pass this feedback along to an actual human being rather than a suggestion box. We'll soon see if there is any improvement this year.
