  1. Nice job! I'm hitting the final 20 or so hours of an 18-month complete redesign and revamp of my employer's website, and even with small changes like this forum, I know how much work is involved in making sure design and coding changes work well. So congrats!
  2. I think Ford still holds value because of his special teams play (both returning and covering). Unfortunately Garrett was at a position where not only do we have 2 solid imports, but a couple capable non-imports. No need to waste the dollars on 5 RBs.
  3. It was posted elsewhere that most of the CEOs in the league have little connection the CFL, yet alone in playing. Why do the Bombers need that when other teams don't? I'm not saying he won't be good in the role -- I'm just saying it seems like an arbitrary request given the make-up of other teams (including the successful ones).
  4. Since when in the CFL is 2 starts "his chance"? With a putrid offense that hasn't done anything of note in over 2 years, you'd think that putting up average numbers for 2 weeks and good numbers in clean-up 3 weeks ago wouldn't be a complete write-off for a career. Reilly has had worse games -- and more chances -- with the Eskimos this year, for instance. We usually give QBs more than a couple games to make a name for themselves. This whole thing reeks of politics and coaches/management trying to get their "guy" a chance, and nothing to do with results. (And I actually think Hall has better tools than Goltz long-term. But my God is this merry-go-round ridiculous.)
  5. Palardy has been super super solid for us for 3 seasons now. He has a *slightly* less powerful leg than some other kickers, but I'll take him from 42 and in over this washed up headcase any day. We really are going to be worse than Ottawa in 2013 if this keeps up. Yeesh!
  6. Mickey Mouse! They ordain Goltz the starter for the season and he lasts ONE game? This is becoming a joke. But of course, I'll still be there Friday, and every other game. *sigh*
  7. He didn't suddenly forget. He's slowly been getting worse since the 2011 season. The decline started that year, as by the time we played in the Grey Cup, he had lost some of his punch. Last year, we all know his constant injury concerns, which didn't help matters. This year, he's looked just terrible save for a couple solid drives. Playcalling, schemes, and systems shouldn't affect a QB consistently zeroing in on the first read (even if the coverage is tight) and either getting sacked or throwing into traffic (resulting in incompletions or interceptions) -- all the while having other receivers wide open. I've seen way too much of that this season (can't really tell on the away games because of TV angles, but at home games it had become obvious and painful). He's also become far less accurate -- admittedly, Goltz has struggled more than Pierce in this department so far -- and doesn't have the threat of the run anymore. He's not the future or the present of this club. And obviously I wouldn't stop going to games if he was winning. In fact, I'll never stop going to games, win or lose. I'm a Bomber diehard. My comment about "considering this season a loss" means that I'll be going to games knowing full well I won't be having as much fun as if they were winning them. Even with Goltz in, who I already think gives us a better chance to win and who definitely has lots of opportunity to improve, I don't think we'll be winning many games this year. So it's a pointless argument either way.
  8. Buck is worse than 4 teams' backup QBs and at least 1 team's 3rd stringer. If all these changes Friday result in Justin "Our Starter for the Rest of the Season" Goltz getting pulled and Buck "Relegated to 3rd String Because He's Playing Like a 2nd Year QB" Pierce becoming our starting QB again, I'm done with this team this year. I'll consider my $300 spent on seasons a loss and wait for a coaching/offensive overhaul in the offseason.
  9. I would give up my season tickets instantly if Eric Tillman was employed by the Bombers.
  10. Back 3 years ago, I was wanting the Bombers to find a way to keep John Murphy even after Kelly left. They didn't, of course, and went with Mack. At this point, I just don't see how Mack can turn this team around, especially with Burke as HC. I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong. But come season's end, unless there's a drastic change, we're going to need to look at other options. I think of this survey as post-2013 season. The only 2 options in my head are John Murphy or Tom Higgins. Any other option would be either too inexperienced (too much of that around here) or too overrated.
  11. Good to see! This is the only place I discuss the Bombers now, and while there isn't the frequency of posts I (and we) used to sometimes encounter in other places, they're always quality and so I don't ever feel like I'm wasting my time. Now if only the team could be at the same quality as this forum...
  12. Finally went to Shwarma Khan last Sunday. Went again Monday. I'm a picky eater, and so don't have much added on, but the meat is freakin' amazing. Unbelievably tasty.
  13. Mostly 'cause they're not true. 45 catches and 575 yards. I'm certain, barring injury, Etienne ends up with more than that this season. It's still early, but if the offense does *anything* this season, he could end up with more yards than Coehoorn does this year. Time will tell, of course, but with Watson also here (and hopefully getting healthy again) Etienne is a great second option and potentially first.
  14. I think that we have just as much of a chance of improving as Hamilton or Montreal does. Thankfully, because of the ineptitude of the rest of the division, we are given some time to get out of the hellhole we're in, a luxury we're not normally afforded. Good point ISO. I just got fed up reading stuff all over this board and just constantly trying to ignore it.
  15. Kevin Glenn, given the style he plays and the style of offense we have right now, could make us a contender. As someone in another thread pointed out, Crowton is getting receivers open. I saw it all game in the home opener and it frustrated the hell out of me. Kevin Glenn would hit those guys more often than not. Yes, you sometimes get some ill-timed INTs with a guy like Glenn, but (a) he usually responds fairly well to them (ie. you see a lot of 3 TD, 2 INT-type games), and ( we aren't exactly getting ball protection from Pierce right now anyway. Glenn for Poblah + 3rd rounder seems fair on both ends, given how high Calgary is on Mitchell. Are there any particularly weaknesses in Calgary that we could address? We have some depth in the front 4, as well.
  16. Without the threat to take off, Buck is a below-average QB. I say let him run wild. If he gets injured, we're no worse off with Goltz in (they both have shown they like to give the ball away). If he manages to miraculously stay healthy, we're a better team and a better offense for it.
  17. Oh God, I love Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel. (Also, I never thought I'd see the day where a Gilmore Girls image would be posted on a Bomber forum. I will spare you all an explanation of my Bombers/Gilmore Girls connection that goes back many years, but thank you for what is an absolutely hilarious image for me and my friend who browses but doesn't post and will probably see this.)
  18. So Burke says Etienne could challenge for a starting receiver spot, and that it would be a great story if Carter stuck with the team. How on earth is that "even", other than your assessment that they had similar stats in an exhibition game? There is no scenario where a guy in his third camp with a professional club -- who is getting rave reviews from the coaching staff -- is even with a 20-year-old junior player who managed to do well enough (and good for him!) in TC to earn a base-level contract.
  19. I would've happily left earlier to catch an earlier bus. Instead, I got there for the first bus on the schedule and still saw them all pass by. And I also tend to not complain about anything -- I hate it how whiny people get in this city. But when I pay for tickets and can't get to the stadium until over a quarter of the game is done -- even though I tried to follow the Bombers' and Winnipeg Transit's schedules and give myself extra time just in case -- that's a bit frustrating. (At the same time, it's an exhibition game, and I care so little about them that I might've even skipped it had it not been in a new stadium. So I'm not really mad or demanding refunds or any of that crap. But I was still frustrated yesterday, especially when it could've been avoided with some proper foresight.)
  20. The only thing that really frustrated me was the fact that about a dozen "Not in Service" buses drove by Grant & Laxdal during the 30 minutes I was there (while 4 completely full "Stadium" buses also drove by without stopping). Why were there suddenly this many Not in Service buses in Charleswood? Was there no way to radio in and make some of these active when they saw that people at the stops were not being serviced at all? I was told there were hundreds still waiting at the start of the line (Assiniboia Downs) when a few of us strangers decided to carpool together and split parking (the people that drove ended up not wanting any of our money, in the end, which was a nice bonus). I'm okay with their estimations being off -- who knew Winnipeggers would embrace transit?? -- but why they wouldn't have a back-up or contigency plan (when clearly they were able to throw one together to add more buses post-game) is beyond me.
  21. From the Free Press article about the incident (http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Bombers-Hefney-charged-with-marijuana-possesion-in-SC-210908201.html): I'm just going by that. If he did just get a ticket and that's that, I can see more why he wouldn't have disclosed it and why it's not as big of a deal. But the reporting indicates otherwise. We shall see how this plays out, I suppose. In general, I agree with Mike's opinion (or at least his take on what will happen). I think Hefney should be suspended (maybe more than 1 game if I was choosing) but allowed to return if he proves he wants to once-and-for-all cut all this bullshit out until he's retired or something. As for the DUI part, I was probably stretching. If he wasn't charged, it's entirely possible he wasn't under the influence while driving. I just have seen far too many friends get behind the wheel while stoned without a second thought, thinking they're totally fine and that there's no way they'd get in any trouble for it. It bugs me because I know they're not fine, but the precedent hasn't really been set for those.
  22. I think it's pretty clear that the biggest problem with this is not telling his team that he had just been booked on pot possession and given a court date that fell in the middle of training camp. How ridiculous of Hefney to not say anything. And also, regardless of your opinions of pot, where he was it was illegal to have some. And he did. I'm pretty sure at my place of work, I'd be out of a job for that one. This, combined with his history, tells me he probably shouldn't be on this team anymore. Or at the very least suspended to set an example. (And that's also ignoring the point that, if the car smelled enough of weed to have the cop search the vehicle, he was probably high while driving, which is something else that pisses me right the hell off. Drink and get high all you want on your own, really, but don't get behind the wheel while drunk or high.)
  23. It doesn't look as slick -- though it's clean and not at all bad. However, even as a designer, I always say that funcitonality (as long as it's combined with cleanliness or simplicity) always far outweighs the look. And that list of features/new functions is astouding. Looking forward to this site growing even further!
