Joey Crawley

Given how bad last game went I wonder if we could have some humor! Remember Joey Crawley who would write devils advocate posts saying the moose will get a bigger crowd than the bombers would for a champions parade and Jim Daley was our best head coach. I wonder what happened to him?

In the light of "what ever happened to?", who was everyone's favourite back-up QB who never worked out? I'm sure for a lot of us it was Joey Elliot. Man, I talked myself into loving that guy.

I also remember Tee Martin getting so much love while herode the bench...until he played.

Robert Marve - if only he could have stayed healthy.

Tee had great talent but a greater appetite. Incompatible.

It must come full circle; we need to sign his son. (who we have the neglist rights to)

My favorite backups: Khari (such a breath of fresh air after Kerwin Bell), and Dru brown (I love the mental toughness and his progression in his first stint here).

My favorite backup QB that didn't pan out / got away, Brian Randall. He was frustrating at times to watch with the Hokies, but put it together in his last year. Only ever really scratched the surface of his potential but looked like he could be a high-floor guy; instead, he was a zero-floor guy lol. He's actually the QB coach at Will and Mary now.

Honorable mention to Lang Campbell, who was on our NL for a long time, then iirc agreed to sign but ended up retiring a week or two later and working for Morgan Stanley.

To be fair he never got a real chance to play until the Mike Kelly year in '09 and nobody could have success in that offence. I remember one game, I believe it was game 4 of the season vs the Argos - LeFors, Randall, and Richie Williams all played and I believe we're all cut or placed on the 9 game IR shortly after. And then they brought in Michael Bishop to run Manny Matsakis offence.

Nicky "long ball Hall..as called in Tulane

could have been special..just didnt pan out...tall at 6'4 i believe and lanky.. rocket arm..

Sadly passed away in 2024

x2 for Elliot. With a half decent team around him he could have been a star in this league.

For me, backup QB Harry Knight who played for the Bombers behind Dieter Brock from 1975-78. The graduate of the University of Maryland was brought in by Bud Riley & sure made an impression during his time here. Knight seemed more poised & "pro ready" than Brock. Brock was very inconsistent when he was a young pro. He seemed to have trouble reading defenses & Riley had him rolling out left & right to be able to read just half the field. Knight seemed more relaxed & in charge than Brock was. Brock had superior arm strength but Knight just seemed to have a better handle on the offense. Yet, Brock always started. Much to a lot of fans chagrin.

Some media members started writing that Brock wasn't smart enough to play qb in thje CFL which he took very personally. Some of these writers did a real hatchet job on Brock. The contraversy continued for a couple of seasons until Knight had to retire because of a damaged rotator cuff which back then was a career killer.

Knight had come up here a year after Brock in 1975 & took Brock to the limit competiton wise. Fans loved Knight. However. Ray Jauch put a stop to all that in 1978 when he took over as HC saying Brock was his guy. It was Jauch who got rid of the rollouts & OC Jim Erkenbech developed Brock into the deadly pocket passer with the lightning quick release that we all came to know. He went from a roll out qb with half the reads to a qb who could read the entire field. Once he learned how to do that, his passing really improved. Then Knight's rotator cuff injury halfway thru 1978 sealed the deal & Knight retired.

If he hadn't been injured, Knight might have been our Number 1 qb for years to come as he played very well whenever he did go in for Brock in relief. It would have been interesting to have seen what might have happened had Knight stayed healthy.

I think you're talking about Harry Knight being better than Brock until Edmonton took him out with a rotator cuff injury that ended his career.

Yeah, sorry. Harry Knight was the qb & not Walters. He was our MLB.

Nickie Hall started the first bomber game I ever saw ... then was traded for Huffer a few weeks later. So that worked out for us.

Tom Muecke was hot and cold for us and there was brief optimism that he could be the post-Clements answer in 1988 but then Salisbury got airlifted in and that ended that.

Richie Williams was meh as a QB and had a weird throwing motion but damn his play action moves were greasy. Repeatedly faked out the TSN camera crews during his time in Hamilton -- you could never tell if the RB had the ball or he did.

I think Joey Elliott had a 400 yard / 4 pick game at some point in his tenure. Total gunslinger who had a couple real pretty games for us. Definitely a guy who wanted to rob the bank instead of putting money in it. (edit: it was 284 yards and four picks, vs Calgary in 2012)

On the flip side of backups who prospered, can't forget Matty Ice ... the final piece that flipped us from pretender to contender. Not a ring of honor guy but def a BBHOF tier guy.

In all fairness to Tee Martin. The offensive line in 2005 makes the 2026 offensive line look like 5 Stanley Bryant’s in their prime. As a side note the fact that Charles Roberts had nearly 1650 yards rushing, and over 2000 all purpose yards with Tee Martin, Russ Michna, and an all time terrible o-line is low key underrated in my opinion.

The numbers Charles Roberts put up with a lot of shitty teams are ridiculous. That guy never gets talked about as an all time great in the CFL.

Played on bad teams, short ish career, and no championships. But that being said no one did more with less than Roberts. Such a special player. He deserved better

If memory serves, Elliott had the tools but got so frustrated with LaPolice's play-calling that he started ad-libbing which led to his being cut.

Had he followed that same self-care/training regimen as Uncle Milt, he would have blown out every record in pro football and may have still been playing.

It's Joey Elliott's birthday today. He turned 40.

Elliot had a great arm but wouldn't run the plays that were called. Went off script and threw back to back interceptions that lost us a game.

Went to BC and did the exact same thing in practice, which led to Chapdelaine sending him off the field and ripping him a new one, and he never saw a CFL field again.

I just thought he quietly became a vegetable due to the long term effects of the lobotomy he obviously received.
