Really easy to always say that there's some mystical coach out there that would be a better fit.  We've been through generations as CFL fans watching teams including our own who keep believing that.

On the 3D Nation piece

IMO and with all due respect, as I don't mind their articles when they are just info, but this is a new low for 3DN.  I mean, at least mention the possibility that teams could still fill holes via scouting and recruitment. Rider bias aside, to rank a team with track record of the Argos that low, is a fool's errand at best.

You mean the two teams that made it to the Grey Cup shouldn't drop down the rankings near the bottom and that a team that gained three notable free agents shouldn't skyrocket to the top?

Power rankings at this time of year are nothing to get your panties in a bunch over.

Power rankings them self are trash basically year round. That said this is a particularly horridly written article worthy of the vitriol even though it is an off season power ranking which yes is silly.

More surprising story.

Edmonton Elks make Robbie Smith CFL’s highest-paid defensive player

General manager Ed Hervey paid Smith $270,000 in hard money with a $276,000 maximum.

So this team is paying 500k or so for 2 Canadian starters on defense?  What a dumpster fire.

1 guy makes that with the ticats pretty much and that’s a bigger yikes than 2 guys who make more impact on a regular basis.

As a casual observor, Holm just seems like a player who hasn't reached his full potential so I'm hoping we reap the benefits this year of him getting to the next level of really good.

That’s 2/5 on the yikes scale. Demski is a 4/5. Those two are a 5/5 for Edmonton. Holm Kramdi and Demski will do fine here. Edmonton can’t really be sure what to get for all that cash.

Yeah his elite quickness should yield a lot of on ball plays other than knock downs which were down last year for him.
Idk though on one hand he’s 26 he should be able to to take a step forward. On the other he has already started 2.5 seasons worth of games.

I honestly don’t expect him to improve or diminish any time soon. If he does take a step forward I’ll be pleasantly surprised. If any thing he got worse last year. Tremendous mental toughness from him though. Never lets adversity break him.

According to 3 down Holm is at 135k while Kramdi  ly was at  125-139 including 25k signing bonus)and depending on award  bonuses (125 hard money then 14k on bonuses if he's named an allstar game or wins awards (ie  Canadian/defensive/outstanding player in west and again for all canadian) so not quite as bad as that.

Booch just being bias against Holm and Kramdi. Not sure, maybe they did kick his dog? :D

Holm improved his tackling last season and looks to have put on a fair bit of muscle, in his first season starting he was more likely to wrap his arms around the ball carrier and hold on till assistance arrived.

throw in likely another 150k for Metchie and thats more than our entire db core 5

Are we still stuck on the six figures thing in 2025? Things have changed. It’s not 2006 anymore

even Jake Thomas makes 100k+

Got to be pretty much everyone not on a rookie deal makes $100k

It’s fairly close to it these days. Most numbers I’ve heard suggest the low end for players on any contract beyond their first is about 88-92k, plus incentives

That's should be your cheapest areas for pay on defence...and easily interchangeable...paying for a dominant dline in the cfl and keeping them reaps you way more rewards...and dictates who wins the game more often than not...neither last yr made Impact plays regularly last yr...if anything Holmie took a major step back other than the WF

As much as u all love Krami...he's a major over pat for the "impact" he makes...he's not a game changer defended by any means who teams scheme for...and he has holes in parts of his game..good rotation/depth/versatile guy...but he ain't no 140k+ starter

Yeah whatever...it's over all talent...and sms allocation...if that's a bias then have at er...

Just doing the math on the salary cap of $6.06,000,000 on a 45 man roster that works out to an average of $134,667.00. Of course, except the Bombers who are taking the cautious approach & still waiting any day now for the PA to change its mind & divert that $400,000 salary cap increase into pension money.

Players on the one-game injury list and players who serve less than a full six games on the six-game list are also charged against the cap, and I assume practice roster expenses are also charged against the cap. So the average spent per player will be below that amount. I did a study of the Argo roster in 2023 -- they had an average of 5.2 guys on the one-game injury list each game, meaning that they were paying 51.2 guys a game cheque each week. Plus a few of the six-gamed guys got pulled off before six games were up, adding their game cheques to the total as well. If in fact the PR is also part of the cap, it's probably safe to assume that the cap gets divided among about 52-55 players.
