2019 Main Training Camp

(2019 Main Training Camp

Can’t remember a start to a main training camp where, even though we have openings at several spots (7?), we seem to have prepared to fill those spots with quality players and good prospects.

Highlights coming into camp are the signings of Willie Jefferson and most certainly Chris Mathews. Not to mention the signing of all our draft choices, some of whom could be dynamic.

We got bigger and better at receiver prospects.

We’ve stacked the defensive line to make it easier for Bighill.

We’ve added defensive backs and linebackers to fill any perceived shortcomings.

Little by little, day by day, shortcomings will be noticed and those players will fall by the wayside.

It’s training camp and the veterans will teach the newbies..in more than one way.

Today, medicals and film room. Good luck to all. Let’s put out the best lineup we possibly can.

I'm thinking the 1s....Harris included........would probably want to get some reps together to get the timing right. Having absolutely zero practice before the first game seems like a recipe for failure.

He will probably get at least a half with the first team O. in the 2nd pre-season game to work out the timing.

I would suggest that wear and tear over a very long 18 game regular season is a significant consideration for the starting tailback on any team.    Once you make the roster commitment to go Canadian at that spot, managing the amount of contact is paramount.    We know what Harris can do as he is a proven vet.   Give the training camp reps to the young guns.   Harris can have non-contact practice reps in the week before our regular season opener.  I would not play him more than 1 quarter in both preseason games combined.   At this stage of his career, he can take mental reps.

I’d only want to see Harris in preseason for timing with the new OL...

My bet's on DT.........

Get your head out of your ass with stupid suggestions like that, he was obviously playing DE.

You guys are all wrong, Drew is going to play QB and SB at the same time. Just wait till week 1 versus BC where he throws for 400 yards and 5 tds, while also racking up 150 yards receving and 2 tds.

“We’ve got a lot of talent in this camp and that’s what’s exciting to see,” said Bighill. “We’ve got a lot of competition going on. The rookies are learning at a fast pace and we’re working extremely hard. We’re working hard to get better and we’re starting at a high level because of the continuity we already have in our defensive room.”

Asked if any of the new guys in particular is jumping out, Bighill said he could name a lot of guys and then referenced draft picks Connor Griffiths and Tariq Lachance along with import defensive tackle Steven Richardson and then said that in the secondary “we’re always making plays.”

Standing out: Chandler Fenner, who has been working at wide-side corner; SB Nic Demski; RB John Santiago; DT Steven Richardson…

O’Shea was asked about the OL’s collective personality and how it ‘drove the team’ over the last few years but has now lost two players in Matthias Goossen and Sukh Chungh. “Still does. Still does. Not worried about it. Still does. These guys get it. Michael Couture and Cody Speller… they’ve been here and they understand it and they’re those type of guys.”

I dont think its soo much a need, as universally done. Lots of good Dbs come into the league each year and contribute. Just like RBs, sub elite players are too close to replacement level to get big deals.

Today’s #Bombers starting secondary: B-CB: Fenner B-HB: Sayles FS: Hecht Nickel: Gaitor F-HB: Alexander F-CB: Rose Kyrie Wilson receiving all the first-team reps at Weak-side LB. #CFL

As well as potential injury.

Maybe the 1s won't be playing at all in the first game.

The game is at home so they absolutely will.
