How to beat Calgary Saturday

After wading through 13 pages of the "Sky is falling" (the Mat Nichols thread) and more of the same on the LaPolice thread, I saw a lot of grumbling and nonsensical blather. The " what a difference one game makes" sort of said it all in terms of a frustrated board of posters. But now that we have got that out of our system, let;s look at what we can do to be positive and to put our team in a position to win.

It is possible to beat Calgary if we get a couple of non-offensive TDs like the Roughies were gifted at perfect times. Note too Regina replied to Calgary's attempted come back with more scoring of their own to really put them in their place,

Assume that Lankford & Folketti start and that Chandler Fenner plays most of the gane

What would you do as head coach/OC/DC to give  the Bombers their best chance of winning?

If I were HC, I would have the offence score as many points as possible.  At the same time, I would have the defense  do everything possible to limit the  scoring by the other team.  I'd stress that i

1.  Keep Lankford off the field except only to use him in the Dressler end around play.  That's his only use.

2.  Take the headset away from Richie Hall and don't allow him to call any more of those garbage defensive formations.

The pick ems has Calgary picked at just over 2-1 to win....... not a lot of love for Matt to win this week ?

Lankford was such a tiny factor in why we lost last week.....  way more players that **** the bed then what he did.

Its more the fact that he slotted in as the primary target...  this really could explain why it seemed like Nichols was 'lost' in his check downs...

If Lankford is not quite getting open or drawing coverage and Lapo is still calling a game based on Dressler kind of guy...  explains a lot.

Maybe just leave Richie Hall at home! Give him the Saturday off! Calgary on a Saturday is just too busy etc.

Can he be any factor toward a win?  That's the important question.  There's not much positive that he brings.  In that case he basically has zero margin to do anything negative.

The best you hope for with lankford I think is that he doesn't **** up... but he ****** up last week dropping a td pass. Just not reliable enough to be a big factor.

Give half their starters the Nancy Kerrigan treatment

Should O'Shea choose to start Lankford on Saturday, O'Shea's credibility will take a giant hit that he may never recover from.

Man it would be funny here should Lankford get a couple scores Saturday.

I would have to stop buying the cheap drugs.

******* Dramatic. Likely Lapos decision tho. Stop being so dramatic. He will never eeeeever be the same... Again. - Chris Jericho

sit Lankford insert Flanders and run a two back backfield. Throw long to Adams a few times and eliminate as much as possible those 3-5 yard passes. Stretch the defense both vertically and across the field.

Then let Fogg return punts take him out of the backfield and add tons of pressure. Don't be afraid to blitz and do it often.

Finally someone shake the head of MOS.....don't be so darn stubborn and call a spade a spade!

Will that result in a win.....I doubt it but it will be a  start

On defense they have to get pressure with just rushing 4, or even better with rushing 3, and then drop everyone and play tight on each receiver. If they are successful wit that, then bring the odd blitz or delayed blitz to mix things up. Blitzing consistently without getting pressure just rushing 4 will not work. Don't play Fogg at DB. Put anyone else in there Cooper, Leggett, or even Fenner.

On offence use play action as much as possible and spread the ball around more. Go vertical to someone other than Adams, and go vertical more than just twice a game. Send ALL the receivers 15 yards downfield instead of just 3 yards for a change. Get Thompkins involved early. When running, use lots of misdirection with Harris and Demski. Build a game plan that does not depend so much on the run and dink'n Dunk passes because because you know Calgary is going to take that away first. If all else fails, run the QB. If Nichols is not moving the ball, then they need to give Streveler a shot before half time and/or before the game is out of reach.

All of this is theoretical because given the mantra coming from coaches and players this week I highly doubt they will do anything different from the preparation they had for Ottawa, or anyone else. Not only is it highly unlikely that they will win, it is quite likely they will be thoroughly embarrassed. Unfortunately, compared to Calgary, Bombers are just not a very good team in terms of either personnel or coaching.

I hope someone from here will be hired by the Bombers as HC in the future.

Win the turnover battle and the time of possession.

a bunch of 'praise the lord' tweets from Flanders this morning.... is he going in??

Just continue to do what you did in the other 5 wins this season. Get pressure on Mitchell and don't let him sit in the pocket and pick you apart, force turnovers and no stupid drive extending penalties.

nope he’s still in PR. he does that everyday.

I haven't gone thru all the messages but do you know Devonne Claybrooks has been hospitalized with an undisclosed illness & won't be at the game Saturday afternoon? That is a significant development.
