Saskatchewan @ Toronto

CFL.ca Staff Game Notes

Lose and you go home...

*Since 1961 (when inter-Division play began) Saskatchewan actually holds an edge playing in Toronto – 26 wins to 21.

(By comparison in Eastern road games, the Riders are 14-24 at Montreal and 18-26 at Hamilton)

*This game pits the CFL’s two best first down teams – Toronto averaged 7.00 yards per play and Saskatchewan was at 6.96.

*One key 2017 difference was in QB Sacks Made – Toronto is tied at #1 with 50, Saskatchewan ranked #8 with 27.

*Saskatchewan swept Toronto in their two-game series in 2017 and have now won the last three times they have played the Argos.

*Saskatchewan won both 2017 meetings despite trailing by deficits of 10 points (Jul 29/17) and 13 points (Oct 7/17).(Saskatchewan outscored Toronto by a combined 38 to 18 in the second half and won after trailing each game at half-time)

*The second half comebacks were led first by Kevin Glenn (Jul 29th) and then on Oct 7th by Brandon Bridge. (Oct 7th: Bridge threw for 292 yards and two TDs off the bench leading five scoring drives in his seven possessions at QB)

*Ricky Ray threw for 300+ yards in both games with five TD passes and 74 per cent completion mark.

*James Wilder was held to 107 yards rushing on 24 carries; the Riders are the last team to keep him under 100 yards.

*Duron Carter had games of 131 & 71 yards with two TD catches and five going for clutch second down conversions.

*S.J. Green had games of 68 & 76 yards with two TD catches and five second down conversions on just 14 total targets.

*FG perfection: Tyler Crapigna made all seven of his FG attempts while Lirim Hajrullahu went five-for-five on his tries.

*Bakari Grant added 200 receiving yards on 12 catches – the most yards he had against any opponent in 2017.

?‍?But for all that, I’m saying it’s Jones vs Trestman, and may the best man win...

  • Not sure why you want to harp on Bluto so hard about this.  As far as fans from other teams posting here, Bluto has always been one of the better ones and any back and forth has been IMO friendly bant

A few years ago I was in a small sports store in Glendale, Arizona. Some dude walked in and asked the guy working there where all their Saskatchewan Roughriders stuff was. I said "The Riders suck. Eve

  • Funny story: at work we keep the lobby television on the local 24 hour news station. Been that way for years. Now, I've heard the occasional Argo score announced on there... I've seen the cheerleaders

The better team in the play offs, is the one that wins. That simple.

Respect is earned, class is learned. Its not a point of the rider fans earning our respect. That wont ever happen. Its a matter of us being better then what we point fingers at rather then dropping to that level.

You really dont understand the rivalry do you?

The Riders are a .500 team and proved it today. They won last week against a .500(ish) team then lost today to a .500 team. They had no real chance to win it all and that was put to rest today.

Riders got what their arrogance and dishonesty deserved, In the end, they beat a poor team and lost to a mediocre one.

Thank God, at least the Grey Cup is one I can watch now.

I think I hope Toronto wins it, esp if it's them vs Edmonton.  It'd be a good welcome home for Trestman and Ricky Ray getting one more cup for his career which given his injuries may not be lasting much longer.

I cant cheer for Toronto ever...

I'm not going to let you spoil this mood.

Oh man I was scared the Riders were going to pull out a fluke win.

Im happy that all is well.

Off to riderfans!!!

You won't find too much teeth mashing over there. We still went farther than any of us expected. It was certainly a disappointing game filled with inexcusable mistakes, but we are still proud of the boys. For the first time in 3-4 years, we played meaningful games, and it should only get better from here. I'll be patiently waiting for next season.

Nope. Calgary or Edmonton anyday... Ill take any Western team winning minus Sask over an Eastern team.

Why should i cheer for the Argos? So they can celebrate in front of 100s of people?

Meh, Bluto seems like a cool guy, Eskies knocked us out, and Calgary is insufferably full of themselves. I think I'm in the majority when I say once the Bombers were out of the running, everyone wants someone other than SSK to win. Doesn't matter who, just not them...

First thing I found when I went on that site was, a thread with a bunch of whining idiots complaining about a suplex being a penalty, and Glenn's chest being grazed by a hand not being a RTP call. Not only that, but the same posters admitted that they didn't think it should be a penalty but they've seen it called before so it is a penalty today.

It's hard to mash teeth when you don't have any!

Riders fans realized today what we realized last week, that there team was just not good enough, that being said I think our future looks brighter than theirs.

Pretty much how I feel. I like Ray and Trestman, no Argos particularly annoy me.

I'm having a harder time deciding who to root for in the battle of Alberta though.

For that team to be any good, they'll have to use their third consecutive different starting QB.

I hate every ******* team and their fan base but there's a special place in hell for the people from the Gap who wear their green **** to every event in every venue on the planet. They're among the worst organisms in our universe. Worse than cockroaches. Stamps/fLames "fans" are gaining on em but not at that level...

Yup, Glenn might not be there next year and I don't think Bridge is the answer.
