Free Agency Frenzy

If there is anything that deserves a thread of its own its this Tuesdays looming bidding wars.

Lets start with 3Down Nation's top 5 negotiations for our Blue:

http://3downnation.com/2017/02/12/top-five-free-agent-targets-bombers/

1. DL Jabar Westerman, B.C. Lions

2. LB Winston Venable, Montreal Alouettes

3. RB Kienan Lafrance, Ottawa Redblacks

4. DL Drake Nevis, Hamilton Tiger-Cats

5. DB Jovon Johnson, Montreal Alouettes

I like the idea of what a 2nd Westerman would do for our D_line for years to come. Getting Venerable could mean a road to the Grey Cup so I would break the bank with whatever we have left and spend it on those two.

  • Things didn't go his way, so he's losing his mind. They've made a decision to go to a more traditional middle linebacker instead of two WIL specialists, so Bass is gone. He's a great player, not

  • Chris Jones is.       Sorry, I thought that said moron.

  • @MiltStegallTSN I've been a free agent since 2009 and @sskroughriders just offered me a contract! Told me they're trying to sign all remaining #FreeAgents   That made me chuckle....woul

Here's my list of notable Free Agents still available:

A-M Cash: DT Int
J'Michael Dean: OL Nat
Micheal Klassen: DL Nat
Corey Greenwood: LB Nat
Greg Van Rotten: OL Int
Andy Fantuz: WR Nat
Euclid Cummings: DL Int
Dan Federkiel: OL Nat (though he's likely Cgy or retire so I guess he shouldn't really be on the list)
Devon Bailey: WR Nat
Terrell Sinkfield: WR Int

curious to see where some of these guys end up...

These Free Agency signings include re-signings (in white) and where the players came from - colour-coded for your convenience and viewing pleasure.

Just tap on the list and it will enlarge.

maybe we are saving our cash for Laing?

Unless Laing can play DT I don't think we're in the market for him,  if he could though,  Westerman,Nevis/Laing/Okpalaugo would be pretty scary

is 280 lbs too light for DT?

I thought Laing has been playing DT for the last few years.

Yep, wikipedia has him listed as DE but he's a DT.

Scratched one off there.

Is Getzlaf a FA?  That would be a headline name.

Laing has always been a DT

With all these marvellous FA acquisitions by the Riders, I'm sure we can expect another 12-6 record prediction from Rod Pederson.

I understand he's expecting nothing less that a regular season record 18-1, but hopefully 19-0.

I was looking at the CFL FA tracker and they don't have Klassen signed yet... and yes, looks like Getzlaf is a FA... must've glossed over him...

I think the Bombers are going to wait out the market and probably scoop one of the veteran WIL/MLB types at a pretty good bargain to compete with the rookies in camp.  Same goes for the NI DL and special teamers.

Love the colour coded chart.

Ticats roster has been getting plundered.

Well, Walters could of dropped 100K for an unproven CDN RB, or another chunk for a oft-injured 34 year old WR/KR.    But Walters hemmed and hawed and  dawdled, and we missed out......

What I have gotten a kick out of these past 2 or so years is the fans of a 3-15, 5-13 team criticizing the moves of other teams.

I guess if you can make someone else look bad it takes some shine off of your own situation.

You'll notice the main detractors are the Jonestown crew....and it's definitely deflection. I just love how every time Jones appears to do something right he just turns around and makes another head scratching move. Chad Owens??

I would sign Laing, using Neufeld money and Thomas money. Either out right release them or try and package them in some kind of draft day deals for mid round picks, or depth players. If not takers on draft day then show the door.

Draft the UCLA DT and rotate him along with Butcher and Tennant in the DT spot with Laing and Nevis. Goes along well with having big bodied tackles to clog up the middle, cause some push and wear down an O-line over course of game.

I like Laing but he is a big ticket item. I would look at someone maybe a little less flashy to team up with Thomas.

Strange, it lists Bryant and Medlock as FA signings but does not include Okie.

All the guys listed on that chart were on a CFL team last year, whereas Okadoodledoo was not.

Calling BS on this post. Knowledgeable football fans in every city in this country.  The record of the team the fan cheers for has zero to do with anything.

Not Regina, there are none.  Bandwagoners mostly.

Man why is this forum so high on Butcher?  Guy was super super raw last time we saw him on a CFL field.

Honestly, I think a major part of it is because he's huge, he's got big bushy hair and he's got a cool name.

I'd hope it's not because of his football ability. He's about as raw as they come.

I like him for his size and potential. I don't see him playing this year at all. Hoping a PR spot and maybe some time next year. He looked really raw last year in the preseason, but he also looked very strong!

Can't ask for much more, he's perfect!

Could be some real bargains in the coming weeks there still plenty of talent twisting in the wind.

I honestly trace it all back to the one pre-season game where he tipped a ball at the line (did he intercept it or was it just a knock down??) and people freaked out. That, along with the cool name, made people go: "ZOMG! DOUG BROWN 2.0!!!"
