Around The League Off Season Discussion

Well that loss stung last night. Not happy with the decision to kick the FG but that can be discussed elsewhere :) All in all there was a lot of improvement this year over last year and looking like they are trending upwards. If Walters can pull off another great draft and some more key FAs this offseason I like our chances going into 2017. Who is on the FA watch list and what areas are we in desperate need of fixing?

The Bombers really need to kick the Riders ass sideways in their first game in the new park to set the tone for the season and send their fans off on the crazy train.  Nothing else matters.

  • Riders haven't lost yet so their fans feel emboldened to venture out of their own little bubble. Won't have to wait long for them to scurry back into their holes.

The tag says "extra-tarpy".

Apparently they had to ask Brendan Labatte for one of his jerseys for the signing today.

I think he can, if we're talking 4.3 minutes...

I dunno maybe chasing a dog with a bucket of chicken tied to it's tail.

I know the Riders have a brand new stadium they are excited to unveil, but with this newest development, will the strain on concessions be too much?

So Young was a 4.4 in 2006...and a 4.3 .....now, 11 years later?   Fake news.

in 06 he might have hit a 4.3 40 on the back of a motorcycle xD

Even the Pro Bowl spots he had are deceptive, injury replacement both times. In 2009, he was like one of 7 or 8 AFC QBs named to a Pro Bowl.

Reading Young's wikipedia article, damn there is some baggage there, and a bunch of mediocre numbers in the NFL.  Add in five years out of football to dull his instincts, him not being in game shape ... and this has big dud written all over it.

Wonder if they'll use him as a wildcat runner?  Ease him in as a change-of-pace QB?  If he's got any giddy-up at all maybe he can push some CFL LBs around, but then the Riders' interior OL is pretty weak, probably not great to run behind.

I think the best scenario for Kevin Glenn is to be #2 out of camp and then pick up the pieces when Young flames out.  Otherwise, if he hits any kinda rough patch, the calls for Young are gonna be deafening.

I remember when the Ottawa Rough Riders parachuted Andre Ware (another Leigh Steinberg guy) in to save the franchise.  The first game he dressed, the Riders' starter (was it Sammy Garza?) was stinking it out, the whole crowd started chanting WE WANT WARE.  And eventually Ware went in, scored a touchdown off a turnover / short field, and that was his brightest moment in the CFL.

This VY signing is guaranteed to be a circus and it'll be so much fun to watch.

Watched Vince Young for many years (Titans fan), and I highly doubt time out of football has magically made him a better player. Would have been a great CFL player if he wasn't 34, out of shape, and had actually played football at any time recently.

The only thing that worries me is that all logic says this will go horribly for the Riders. Why is that a problem, Jimmy? Because how often does sports follow all logic?

I just hope, nay pray, that this all goes how we all think it will.

Regina, the Riders and their fans especially deserve a season that mirrors our opening of IGF.

Man I saw a clip of the signing on TSN and he so big..... Yeah I know the camera adds 10 pounds but cripes, stop eating the cameras!

VY couldn't crack the 2012 Bills roster or the 2014 Browns roster...... that's pretty sad. And a 46-51 TD to INT ratio. Ohhhhhh this is gonna be fun to watch.

That jersey is a tent.

How do you guys not see the genius that is Jonesy? Obviously he didn't sign Young as a plug-and-play QB upgrade... Young is obviously their import offensive lineman that can also run the fumblerooski...and throw in a pinch.

The 61-year-old head coach will make north of $600,000 annually on his three-year deal with the Argos, per sources.

Head coaches in the CFL generally earn in the $275,000 to $400,000 range while those with a dual general manager-head coach title can expect a salary in excess of $500,000. For Trestman to be among the top-paid executives in the CFL while solely a head coach is likely to garner attention around the league.

Nice of the Argos to throw the salary structure out of whack.

Apparently Chris Jones is pulling in 750k / year for being both head coach and GM.

Sounds like I need to get a headcoaching and gming job for a year or two. Than I can retire :P

Boy that's sure not going to make the players happy. No cap on coaches/management, but a tight cap on the guys putting their physical health on the line week in and week out.

Only 500k is for being both a coach and GM.

The extra 250k is for being a deity.

I would think he ought to be pro-rated for the GM portion...

I thought is was for the Febreeze to clear the smell out of the Rider stadium after home games.

That’s a pretty common mistake. But the stank in that building can’t be removed or even covered up. That’s the main reason a new stadium was built in the first place. The experts agree that sometime around mid-July the stank will officially be embedded in the toilet bowl as well. At which point, the farmers will restart their fundraising for another new stadium. Projected to be completed after the team wins its 8th grey cup. Approximately year 2113.
