Both of my sons played football with good and bad quarterbacks. When a team has an energized quarterback that leads the team through his play, that ripples down to the entire team, and up into the stands to the fans. And of course the opposite occurs with a bad quarterback, leading to fights in the stands! I won't be surprised if Willy starts in Edmonton, but Nicholls has to get extra reps on the 1st team offence this week. We simply have to do something. Oh and I'm not sure La Po is the right guy either....

Does a blow out against the Eskimos cost MOS his job?
ddanger replied to White Out's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I'm thinking the same thing......when's our bye-week, that's when I expect to see some changes of both players and coaches. Something has to change, someone has to fire the guys up, and a few people need to be held accountable for what we're seeing on the field. -
Odds and Sods - Game 5 - Stamps at Blue Bombers
ddanger replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Although I'm a STH I chose to work today and listen to the game on the radio. Irving called it boys playing against men in the fist half. I'm more and more convinced it's the coaching......apparently they knew every time we were going to run the ball in the first half?? That's on LaPo. I watched the 2nd half, agreed with the timing of the QB change, I hope and expect that the leash is even shorter next game. -
Very good article to start this thread!! Here's my 2 pennies worth: MOS must make some major changes. They need to include a change at the QB position should the offence continue to struggle. I believe the o'line coach needs to be changed. The OC is awful predictable, but we're stuck with him. The hitch screen doesn't work because our receivers aren't blocking properly.....I recall one play last week when both Edmonton receivers chopped down our DB's right after the catch resulting in a big gain for them. That's aggression and we don't have it. I'm fixated on the offence because they can't stay on the field....FIX IT !!

I want to see a maximum number of challenges that a team can have in a game, regardless of whether or not they get it right. I agree that the games just seem to drag on and on and on, coupled with the agony of sitting in the stands watching us bumble and stumble definitely takes away from the experience.

Rebuild # 32769: Kick Us When We're Down Edition
ddanger replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I very much agree we have tons of talents that can compete....but we also have some really glaring weaknesses ( offensive line ) that just isn't good enough. I'm not completely sold on taking Willy out, give me one more game...okay give me the first half next week. Then he has to come out. -
Well they gotta do something, but moving around players who aren't even playing isn't going to accomplish anything. I'm expecting some bigger moves in the coming days once the film gets reviewed. And perhaps Nicholls getting a few extra first team reps would be a good start.

Odds and Sods - Game 4 Edmonton at Winnipeg
ddanger replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
A few thoughts I had from the game......the hitch pass surprises no one; our offensive line has a pure rookie, and two 2nd year players, all of whom need time to develop. When we put in another rookie for a few plays Couture I think we were in really big trouble; #33 is a player, too bad he doesn't have much support. Running straight ahead isn't going to work; Wild and Bass and Medlock are also players, so are Dressler and Smith. I don't think Fogg is the answer. I really think we have a coaching issue plus a player issue on the o'line, we can certainly debate La Po's predictability, and our bend but don't break defense is a joke. I also think those cards and signs that the defense uses are kinda amateurish. FINALLY......WTF happened in the parking lot across from the stadium?? It took us at least 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot. Total gridlock and anger. -
Odds and Sods - Game 4 Edmonton at Winnipeg

I sure was surprised that they posted a fan turnout at 26,000.....I realize that STH there or not get counted, but the place had no where near that number. -
and his blocking....it was great

I get so tired of sitting in the stands at the stadium listening to my fellow season ticket holders bitching and complaining all the way through games about our team. Same thing here, people are complaining and are very critical even when we win. Was it a game for the ages?? No it wasn't. But our team played significantly better than last week. They played with emotion, and they dominated. They were excited and it showed.

grinding out yardage and eating the clock is the plan...especially when you're leading. I think it's a sign of a confident offense. I was really disappointed that they couldn't score in the 4th when they marched the ball all the way down the field, but it destroyed the clock, and kept our D on the sidelines. Coupled with a great defensive stand when they did get the ball back and victory!

about time we had the ball longer than the other team
-
Maybe Dressler was still suffering from getting concked in the head 2 weeks ago. How in the world he didn't realize he needed to be on the field astounds me...he's the holder!! And that miss was all about Medlock being frazzled.

that was an absolutely awful call. I thought scoring plays were reviewed how that was allowed to stand is beyond me...
-
I really appreciate the effort put into this review. Damn that musta taken a long time. I agree with Tracker.....kind of exposes some coaching issues with the o'line in particular. But we have a 2nd year player at RG and essentially a rookie at C plus another rookie at LG so these communication issues will take a while to be resolved. Liked reading that Willy seems to be gaining confidence with his execution, I think it was a big mistake to have a battle between 3rd and 4th QB and not give him more reps in the pre-season. I hope we get another review after this game to see what (if anything) has improved.
-
me to. Progress. A close game win or lose is progress.....our offensive line playing better and protecting the qb and opening up the running game would be progress
-
I'm not sure I can even hold on until half time.....there has to be some improvement soon or the stadium will be empty
-
guess I'm not seeing what you're seeing but I thought Goosen has been playing okay

So just looking for some stats to quote....man the CFL site is awful, and the Bombers' site is at least a bit better.....Wild and Fogg are leading in tackles by a wide margin. Our 2 big free agents??? 3 tackles for Shologan, and 2 for Cummings. Westerman?? He's got 5 that's not bad. Ian Wild has 15. I'm not a coach, I understand the linebackers should be making more tackles than the linemen, but 5 tackles in 2 games for those 2 guys isn't going to cut it.
-
It's true the defence can't get off the field, and the offence can't stay on. I really think that if we stop going 2 and out, we improve everything. Ian Wild is a stud on defence. I haven't seen the stats, but don't recall hearing Cummings and Shologan's names mentioned last night at all. Those 2 have to pick it up. Did they play in the pre-season?? Don't think so. I saw Shologan cheap-shot Messam near the end of the game, that's about it.

I think I share the concerns many of us have......our oline struggles badly against the blitz, hell it struggles when there is a 4 man rush. Running up the gut doesn't work, period, and only leads to losses of both yards and players. If I was going to make a change, it would be the o'line coach. Additionally, I thought Lapo was going to change everything, and I'm not seeing that. It seems to me that we are way too predictable on offence. And finally, why does our secondary play so soft?? Can't we play more man to man??

I was quite surprised to hear that he was even trying to practice. I'm going to assume he had headaches and/or dizziness during or after trying to physically exert himself and got shut down. I realize and understand that the football helmet far exceeds the hockey helmet, but then the degree of violence associated with the contact also is much greater. If he had been knocked senseless in hockey he would've been out for weeks, and it just seemed so fast for him to be back a couple of days later.
