Since you asked, yeah I think that since this is over $85k FFS, perhaps having a sitdown with the club and holding the big stick of a trial-by-media may have done away with this.
Well, this seemingly happened and they were told not to open that can of worms.
If the the lawsuit has been filed, they already tried to handle it quietly and the club refused.

What victim though? We have someone who filed a Wrongful Dismissal suit and added a Harassment charge to it.
If there's a claim of actual victimhood, the Toronto Police Services should be notified.
Exhibit A) Discrediting the victim.
(this makes it easier to harass them later without guilt)

It's hard to really speak to this. Walters took the high road in his comments. Just said Jackson was 100% right, and it's a very difficult situation.
I wonder if there was more communication than either will admit but it was exactly along the lines of, "we don't know if we can offer you a contractor how much we will left over for you". And then he also didn't receive much interest in FA (which does surprise me, tbh).
In a perfect world, I would love these vets to be treated as well as possible on the way out. If we didn't have plans to sign him, or knew it would be a clear pay cut, I would prefer it if we had made that clear from the outset. But maybe we did and Jackson/agent just didn't really believe it. But even though Jackson feels disappointed right now, it all seems like everyone is walking away in a mostly professional manner as they part ways.

Excuse me, serious question: what victim? And who said that they ought to be shamed? This is a wrongful termination suit with a side of a sensationalized accusation to whip the press (and apparently internet forums) into a frenzy before evidence and judgement. And why would the accused be named and subjected to trial by press except for the purpose of shaming them into accepting a settlement (much as was done once before against the Argos)?
This serves the accuser's legal strategy just fine, as was always the intent.
Give me a bit of credit for being a decent human please.
And your comment about the side of truth is just so offside here. And support what victim?
And this is why trial by media for a wrongful termination suit is ideal for the accuser.
Yahtzee.
When victims are made public, especially when attacking professional athletes, they are shamed, assaulted, vilified. This just happened to the woman who accused Jackson Mahomes of assault. She went through so much abuse that she stopped cooperating with police and the charges were dropped. Naming the accuser does nothing but encourage people to keep their mouths shut and let "boys be boys".
Suggesting anything else is BS, imo.

Just saying:
It's messed up how they can name Kelly but not the accuser.
I don't think I agree with victim shaming.

Joe Gibbs with a 10k donation, pure class. Iirc he only had mike for a year or two.
Heart breaking though and makes me wonder how it isn’t covered. He got deep into his pension with all his nfl games. On the gofundme page, his wife says she’ll be taking a leave from work and she’s hoping to raise money for living expenses. Perhaps he is covered to a certain extent but they still need to live.

Tbh we had a lot of that in the taman era. His negotiation tactics and penitent for cheaping out cost us soo much talent. We likely would’ve won a gc after 01 if we didn’t screw around soo much. Bruce, Clark, Armstrong we screwed and low balled soo much under taman. Our fa pick ups virtually all sucked as well.
I don’t blame the milt blink and other hold outs. Or guys leaving to other teams for a bit more money. The club wasn't exactly in a good financial position back in the day.
As we always say, we're living the glory years right now, and it's for more reasons than the fact we're winning a bunch.

Only if they underperform.
Schoen has played on this high scale receiver salary for two years. Geno Lewis has one under his belt.
They've produced three seasons around 900 yards and 4 TDs. The league is refusing to meet Tim White at that number.
I'd say it's the opposite. They'd have to ridiculously over-perform to get anywhere near these numbers again.

I think you wanna have a vet coming in for these open positions even if it's just a measuring stick for coaches to use when evaluating the young guys.
Yeah, I'm kind of see-sawing on the move.

People are looking for things to ***** about. It's almost like they don't believe in our recruiting and that they completely forget about training camp where multiple guys will compete for these spots.
I actually do believe in our recruiting, which is why I was hoping we wouldn't see one of these retreads taking up a TC spot.

A bit of a positional need break down post free agency since it seems we will only add min contract vets from what walters was saying.
Starting DBs, Ford/kramdi Nichols BA Holm Parker. That leaves 1 full time spot for sure open, and parker will likely have to win a spot as well.
Starting OL Bryant, Neufeld, Kolo/Eli, Dobson. That leaves one spot open, and likely our 6th OL will be the back up C.
Wrs Lawler, Woli, demski, Schoen. Which leaves 1 imp starting spot, and a back up NI wr spot (Likely Murphy.)
DL WJ Thomas/lawson Fox Haba/Garbutt. Likely Fox will have to win a spot in camp, as well as the 2nd DE.
So we will likely see 1 full rookie imp starting on the OL, plus one back up moving up to starter. At WR we will certainly end up starting a 2nd full imp rookie, DL also has a very high probability of seeing a full rookie imp starter. In the secondary I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 rookie starters, 1 is for sure. So we will probably have 4-5 rookie starters. We also might be looking at a rookie kicker, (hope castillo re signs) possibly a rookie KR, and a mostly new Sts / cover team. Strevy, while familiar with buck will also be adapting to bucks offence, though I think that will be a great benefit by time the season starts. JY as a rookie Dco isn't much of a concern to me with Hall staying on.
Davie ritchie used to say you lost 1 game per rookie starter you had. I think that is more true for mediocre teams or rebuilding teams. For an established team with a strong locker room like ours I don't think it will be soo rough. I also think we will become far more dynamic and by mid to late season have developed far better depth than we had last year.
How do you grade this off season/FA for the bombers? Strevy back is a huge win, especially on such a team friendly deal. That and keeping both schoen/brady for less combined than any one wouldve thought is another A+. A couple of the subtractions to the roster are also a big win. It sucks not getting any league vets to come in for starter spots, but our scout team is dynamite. Id say this off season is a B+/A-. We are gonna get some more blue chip prospects at several positions and I don't think we will miss a beat on offence. If we manage to get those blue chippers in the places of need and they show up to camp, I think it'll be a solid A off season at worst.
We've never struggled to find rookie talent on D either. Or win with rookies on D for that matter. in 19 pundits doubted our secondary league wide. But the 2 rookies who started on the same side of the field as each other have turned into a regular NFL starter quality player, and a guy whose among the very best covermen in the league.
I’m not concerned about our secondary. I think all starters will be covered by guys already in the building and we’ll have a couple rookies for depth that will get their feet wet and like move into greater roles next year. Been there, done that.
LBers will be the same, with maybe some upside if Cole starts coming on strong. Adding Ford has the potential to help the secondary and/or the SAM spot. Kramdi getting the training camp as the starter will help as well. All good here.
DL has lost a massive piece in Jackson. Our D is not the same, Willie is not the same when Jeffcoat is not on the field. There is potential here to find a young dynamic defensive weapon that takes us to another level (especially looking forward to next season). There’s also the flip side of that where our DL takes a drastic step back.
Im not as worried about OL. It might take some time to gel, but it’s going to be nice to see Dobson or Eli step up. Again, this may pay dividends in 2025.
WRs should improve with Kenny hopefully available for a full season. I don’t expect much out of random guy #5, but maybe he comes on strong in the back half and can replace whichever one of Kenny/Dalton potentially walks next year.
Zach and Brady should continue to be the best at their respective positions. Stevy is going to be such a help to our O.
I think we’re at a B so far. We need our draft picks to contribute more. We really need to nail our DE scouting.

Ya I'd be curious to know where Neufeld feels more comfortable. He's a natural tackle who had to make the adjustment to guard when we brought in Yoshi.
He was always pretty subpar at tackle and didn't really find success until we moved him to Guard.

Sometimes I think ppl read to far in to things. He likely means he has no money for a Tim white type. He doesn’t mean he doesn’t have enough money to put the roster together lol. 5 starters need to be replaced. That’s not that much and our depth? I mean depth is replaceable. Clements was never taking a starting spot. Hansen wasn’t either. Neither was Exume.
lots of worrying over basically nothing. It’s also February so.
who have we lost really.
hardrick cuz sask gave him keys to a bank
Jeffcoat cuz retired.
houston? In my opinion he wasn’t even our starting CB.
sounds like outside of Hardrick the guys we lost were guys we also decided to let go.
We can choose to take him at face value or not, but he said after Grant and Castillio (if they can get it done), everyone else coming in has to be on a rookie deal. He even noted that agents were asking him if the Bombers would circle back on guys in a few days and Walters had to tell them, no, we're out of room to add anyone outside of rookies.
Now, none of this is set in stone. He could cut Collaros tomorrow if he wanted to, so things will always be fluid to a certain extent. But as of now, the roster is set beyond adding draft picks and CFL rookies.

Roster necessities.
With the camp battles we're going to see at critical positions, need as many bodies as possible.

Is there any chance they move Neufeld out to RT and run both Dobson and Eli at G?
I don’t think we move guys out of places they’ve been successful unless it’s an emergency.

Only exceptional rookies step into the lineup in their first year, should be okay with a rookie receiver and the secondary but if injuries come into play, could be rough.
Biggest worry right now is Grant and Castillo, ST will suck and blow badly if those two are not re-signed.
Ok, but we’re mostly not asking first year rookies to come in. We have Fox and Haba returning on the DL, Ford and McGhee in the secondary. We do need to find a RT, but the rest is depth pieces.

Well, we sign Schoen & Brady & we're paupers? Maybe that wasn't the right thing to do. Maybe we should have let one go. They both even signed on the cheap to help the Bombers out. . We should have money & yet we don't. I'm scratching my head about this.
We're not paupers, but the vast majority of our roster spots are filled already. Why should we have a bunch of money left over?

Our non starters are signing elsewhere and ppl losing their minds.
If you hear Walters' comments today, it really is that our remaining roster needs to be filled with guys on minimum contracts.
So we're losing depth pieces that we probably would have liked to keep. It's not the end of the world, but the scouts are going to be earning their keep this season. For starters and depth.
