If they change kickoffs Bede is not nearly as valuable. His kickoff length were invaluable to the Argos.
Definitely seems like they should have settled this before FA then (unless the teams already know any incoming changes).

Hampers in regards to amount of top talent you can maintain...
How?
Even if we could double the cap, everyone’s wages go up (great for players) and you still end up against the cap and losing players.
A “marquee” player is the same thing. One guy gets more money (good for him), but how does that help you keep your players?

The salary cap is hampering teams with their small one hundred thousand dollar incrememental increases. It's just not enough. Whatever happened to single game betting as thew saviour for the CFL & each team making an extra million dollars off of it?
It can’t hamper teams if all teams have the same cap.
Even if the cap is doubled and salaries increase, you’re still going to see players leave via free agency. -

I wonder if we’d consider bede actually. Great year last year as a kicker, can do all 3 jobs, biggest leg and best kick off guy in the league. Sergio is a better kicker, but bede might be cheaper. I’d really love to see a consolidation of the 3 jobs, even if it’s a di for all 3. But we really need to improve punting and kick offs.
Be hilarious if we re signed legs. The head explosions around here would be epic.I don't know about being cheaper, but if we could not waste the roster spot on multiple guys that'd be great.
Though, how many globals do we need to roster?

I think most teams are facing this issue - so there’s that.
For sure, still going to see guys look at all their offers (if any) and accept what Walters has out there.

There's something like 9 starters unsigned.
I know some of them include people that a lot of you want to see replaced, but having that many new players come in at ones is goin to have some detrimental effects on this team.
TC is going to be crazy.

Welp, tomorrow's the start of the craziness.... Curious if we start getting lots of information from the various talking heads tomorrow about offers and what not....
I hope so; getting pretty stressed out about all this.

I have this sinking feeling we are going to lose both Brady and schoen. Boy I hope it’s wrong.
I never expected to keep Schoen. I just can’t see a way to make it make sense with Lawler here.
But it’s still hard for me to believe that someone is going to offer Brady so much more than we are that it’s worth it for him to leave. -

He won’t take Jeffcoat money.
I know, I'm simply emphasizing my point at how little I'm interested in Betts. Even at the same money, give me Jeffcoat.
But we're already out on Jeffcoat at whatever his ask is, so I'm certainly not on board with giving more for Betts.

If Betts would take Jeffcoat money and we could backfill with Kongbo/Mason Bennett I would do it.
I'd rather have Jeffcoat.

You don't know how Bombers will handle the ratio in the coming season, nor do I, but it'll be very different team and the past is no predictor of the future
I can tell you the 6 starters right now and that's all you really need these days.

Betts has a Nat passport though, and if Bombers decide not to overpay for a RB, as they have done before, I could see them going after Betts for the ratio edge.
We don't need a ratio edge. We routinely start 8 or 9 Nats.
If they are going to spend that price tag, they're gonna sign Schoen.

If Bombers lose Jeffcoat and one of either Oliveira or Schoen, should be money in the kitty to go after Mathieu Betts.
Can you tell me why?
Betts is asking for more than either Schoen or Brady. And is much worse at his position than they are at theirs.

That’s about the only signing that could help me stomach losing Brady
We paid 120k to Brady last year. I have no interest in paying 50+k more to not have Brady.
If he moves on I hope we recruit a new guy on rookie deal. No interest in any CFL vets.

It isn’t worth being this worked up about it.
Meh, we're just talking.
I get booch's point. At this point in Jake's career, it wouldn't be super harmful to move on and replace with a younger player. But I'm also ok with keeping vet's around if they accept the reduced pay/playtime - as long as there's a balance and you're not hanging on to too many vets or depending on too many inexperienced players for reps.
And that's what I think this is. Maintaining a balance.

doesnt have to be a rookie.....but a younger player with upside...and we already have that Schmeckle guy...and the other one coming back with Last name starting with S....no need for jake....I get it..he a vet ...blah blah blah....but he is easily replaced...has no use on any teams, and is for a lack of a better word...just in the way now...
I get what you're saying. I'm going to disagree because it seems like we're going to be seeing quite a shift in the roster this year. We are going to see some vets either walk away of be moved on form and we're going to see a lot of younger guys (or FAs) come in to replace those guys. The shift is happening.
So having Jake in the room at a lower salary. I don't think that's going to get in anyone's way. He'll have his leadership/locker room vet hat on. MOS will undoubtedly use him to to talk about the way things used to be and how far we've come. His NAT status keeps him out of the way of any young import we may have coming in, and Lawson has already assumed the mantle of the other starter.
12 minutes ago, Noeller said:I'm wondering if they've talked to Mason Bennett representative already and found out he wasn't coming to Wpg so they figured Jake is better than what else is out there....??
Thomas has nothing to do with us reaching out to the Canadian DE's like Bennett and Kongbo.

Didn't they decide to convert him to O-line or am I thinking of someone else?
That was Cole Adamson, who isn't on the roster anymore. Not sure if he went back to school or was just cut?

Again - if it goes to FA he may leave and now you are facing an even bigger problem.
So, no. That logic doesn’t check out.
lol, yeah, what does he mean "early"?
This is as late as it gets.

Just now, Goalie said:
They wouldn’t have signed him this early if he wasn’t gonna be a starter. U think he’s coming back to just not play? lol. They could have waited. He’s starting.
He was already transitioning to a back up last season.
Lawson is going to play ahead up Thomas. But it's DL, so there's lots of reps to go around. We also have two returning NI DT's along with anyone who's drafted to come in and compete for time.

poor signing...money that could have went elsewhere....Like retaining a young usefull Canadian with upside like BOLO....Going toward Mason Bennett....Part of that toward Schoen...or whomever and fill his spot with a draft pick with upside other than running up and down field on special teams...especially when there may be even fewer special team snaps now with possible new kick off rules....so dumb
majority of his sacks are the result of guys like JJ...WJ and others basically funneling the QB right into him....where have you seen him use speed...technique....power to blow up O-line guys to get a sack...very rare...especially the last 3..4 yrs
We can't just put rookies in every depth position either. There still need to be vets with experience scattered around.

I’ll be honest. Love Jake and everything he has done. He should be on the cheap and be backing up Lawson.

Milt said something the other day about thinking that Oliveira is going to be in BC this year... not sure exactly why he thinks BC specifically, but... for what it's worth, anyhow......
Love Milt, but an insider he is not.
Guaranteed the only reason he said that is because BC does not have a running game and Brady is the best RB on the market.

That happens regardless of how much the cap is though.
