Until proven otherwise, Montreal is the team to beat in your division. Like it or not, they ultimately were the East`s best team last year. Don`t get me wrong, if playoffs were best of 3 it`s Winnipeg vs Toronto last year and we have our 3rd Grey Cup in 4 years...but the fact of the matter on any given Sunday for two straight games, Montreal was able to claim the title as the team to beat in the CFL. It belongs to them.

I do agree that FA, is a bit over rated in terms of measuring a teams competitiveness. Good teams lose players, bad teams get some, but at the end of the day the teams that recruit the best over time are usually at or near the top of the league.

It's fair to say they're the team to beat.

But if you're making a standing prediction, is it your honest opinion that Montreal will finish 1st in the East? Because it isn't mine.

Yeah, this just feels like a WILD overpay to keep the local guy. I'm as happy as anyone to have Brady stay with the team, but that price just SEEMS way too high. I'm on Booch's team, thinking we could have gone to an American that would have provided approximately the same production. I feel like it's way easier to find RBs than it is to find elite REC's like Schoen. But we'll see what Walters has up his sleeve...

I think you're overestimating the production we'd get out of random american back. There's a lot of backs around the league....Brady was several cuts above.

I’m genuinely baffled at some of the reactions in here lol have we just turned into a ridiculously spoiled and entitled Rideresque fanbase who thinks everyone should take less money for the honour of playing here?

The Bombers just signed the MOP finalist, MOC winner to a two year contract in the prime of his career. Take the hometown element out of it.

MBB members, with no information on other offers, negotiations, the Bombers’ internal cap, how much other players get paid, how much the Bombers were anticipating paying, how much Brady asked for, where we’ve spent or plan to spend other dollars, where we’ve saved or plan to save other dollars or really genuinely any information about anything at all other than just a bunch of retweets from guys they only trust if the information suits their narrative: “tOo MuCh”

    what?

I'm choosing to be happy. It would have been sooo terrible to see Brady in Argos colours.

This is a win. Let's take it.

Interesting that they have signed a few American RBs in Smith and Brown. Wondering if they go back to an American RB? I know we still have Augustine but we would need a good Canadian back up for him. And if they do go American at RB where do we sub out for a Canadian? This of course is all a moot point if Brady comes back.

Augustine is not an option to start.

And it doesn't necessarily mean anything yet, as we always bring in RBs for TC. And we have to at least prepare for if Brady isn't there.

Richmond technically has never signed an actual yearly contract filed to the league...Just practice roster agreements...so yes....he could be on a minimum deal but I bet we pay him a bit more...insignificant in the grand scheme

He's on our roster, so he must have signed a contract though, right? Otherwise he would have been released end of season?

And that contract may have start bonuses, etc. So, assuming he is our RT for next season, it probably will be for a number above the minimum. Obviously for less than what Yoshi was getting tho.

so...Demski should be cut as he is older...Lawler being the same age, is kinda guy we should cut? By that age logic thats what you are kind of saying...

Every player deals with injuries....but people here are whining about Canadian depth and character guys...I recall when he stood up for teammates when Masolli was cheap shotted and knocked out how people here all said thats the kind of guys who would fit in and flourish here.

If we could get him on a nice team friendly deal I would definately bring him in...versatile receiver for depth who also likes to do the dirty work...we may lose Bolo soley because he wants a place to start, and wont get that here for at least 2 yrs yet, so Behar a vet...with skill/experience would serve well for a yr...2

I don't understand man. What's the difference between Behar and Jake Thomas?

You're the one arguing we should shed this type of player, but know you want to sign another team's version?

For the record, I am totally open to bringing in Behar as veteran depth - but you and others have been adamantly against these deals for our players because they "block a young player".

Is that a for sure...or speculation? Wonder what his ask would be, and if T.O or anyone for that matter will match it....or offer comparable

Done deal. The speculation is that Bede is going to Edmonton.

I don't agree. Where the Marquis Player Rul;e becomes a problem is in a non salary cap league as then the $600,000 you talked about can be used to up salaries as you said. In a hard cap era, the reality is any new money left over won't cause an inflationary explosion of increased salaries as there is a check in place to prevent it & there are penalties for going over the cap. And next season, the cap only goes up by $100,000.

Everyone gets the extra money in their budget, so it doesn't help anyone sign their FA's. Everyone is still in a bidding war for those who want to go to FA.

Adds 600k extra ...or puts 600k back into the sms....600k that can be spread all over for contracts...how u not getting that?

Because every team gets the same benefit. It benefits the player in question, who probably would get a pay bump in that scenario. It may benefit the league by perhaps getting players who may not otherwise come up north without the aforementioned pay bump.

But in the case of a player who has massively outperformed his rookie deal and needs a significant bump, it doesn’t help. Especially when we have two players who have done so. We could sign Schoen if we wanted - we’re choosing not to right now, because it would be too much invested in one position group.

Marquee player would just be your starting QB

The concept would never be considered by the league.
