Patience
Re: the choice of going with Willy as opposed to making a bid for Trevor Harris or Kevin Glenn. Yes, its only game one but it smells an awful lot like the teams of the past two years. O'Shea has to be the one who had the major say in anointing Willy as the One and Only and it brings two of his questionable traits into view again: his stubbornness in sticking with inadequate players and his judgement in assessing players. If nothing changes, then nothing changes.

Bombers Opener June 24 ... (also Laine Day!)
If you take Posey and Fogg out of the picture, the defence overall was decent enough to win the game. The D-line did not get as much pressure on Glenn as they ought to have, considering how rebuilt they were, but Willy has become the problem.

Dressler Smith Who?
It was right in Smith's hands (not that the TD would have swung the game around)- he just didn't catch it.

Not. Good. Enough. And all too familiar

This would seem to indicate that Edmonton believes Jones and Co. have the brains of eggplants.

Mike Riley accounting for a wrong....
This is proof that Neanderthals have not gone totally extinct, and that comparison may be an insult to neanderthals. Rape is not about sex. It is about degrading and humiliating another human being. If this turkey gets put into general population in the hoosegow, he will have the error of his ways brought to his attention.

Prediction time
It makes sense to me that we ought to wait until the season is actually underway before we panic. But what do I know?

Mike Riley accounting for a wrong....
If there can be a good ending to gang rape, this is as close to that as it gets. Mike Riley had a rep as a good guy when he was here and it seems that he still is. He stepped up, admitted the harm he did and took the wrath of his victim. It couldn't have been easy.

Final Cuts
This not the NFL, so the loss of any starter, import or non-import causes problems for any team- except maybe the Cowgarians.

Bob Irving, John Helton, and Bob Molle To Bomber Hall of Fame
Helton may have been overall the best d-lineman in the CFL in his career, but Dougie is overall the best Bomber lineman.

Our defence ought to be way better than last year, with one possible exception, so they ought to keep us in the game until at least half-time. I just hope they do not put Hurl back in- we would be way better off to put the NI on offence as a receiver.

Bombers Opener June 24 ... (also Laine Day!)
The most memorable thing about Posey to me is his tree-trunk legs. He looks like he could sub for a bridge pier.

Final Cuts
This is not encouraging- I thought we had better options than these two who could not make the rosters on two ummmm...sub-par teams who are not rich in Canuck talent. I hope they Vitt another shot.

There are a lot of good athletes who excel at individual sports where they do not have to adapt to a rapidly changing situation, but compared to hockey, football has a lot of moving parts plus unpredictability. We are going to see how well Willy adapts to a semi-chaotic game.

Bombers Opener June 24 ... (also Laine Day!)
I am not comfortable with Posey starting Friday. He didn't look all that effective in the pre-season games and this probably the reason the Bombers grabbed Hawkins.

This is a bit off topic but I think it is relevant. I heard the last half of a 1290 interview with Willy this afternoon, and if his verbal agility is anything like his decision making, we are in for a long season. His responses were all rote, and he showed little spontaneity in whatever little repartee there was. All of which makes me wonder if he is simply so slow of thought that he cannot ad-lib on the field if his first read is taken away or he gets flushed out the pocket.

We enjoy trashing the Riders, but few here are strangers to loss and grief. For guys, the loss of a close Dad really hits home, and the next twelve months, the first Christmas, the first birthday, the first parental anniversary all all reminders of who is no longer a part of our lives. Your kids are watching you and how you are handling this.

Bombers Opener June 24 ... (also Laine Day!)
Wild has the speed and instincts to play in the middle but too often he was road kill after being buried by a 300lb lineman. Maybe Bass can do better.

BC Lions @ SaskJones Implosions (preseason game)
I'm surprised that the semi-desperate Riders didn't chase Butcher. He has to be a way better gamble than Reaves.

Bombers Opener June 24 ... (also Laine Day!)
Fogg looked OK so far, Posey not so much. If Posey starts, they will pick on him right away and Glenn is just the quarterback to do the quick slants and curls.

Prediction time
This is the most unpredictable start I have ever seen for the Blue. Every team leans heavily on their starting QB, but no one more so than the Bombers. If Willy gets his poop together, we ought to be looking at 10 and 8, but if Willy is as tentative as he did in the pre-season outings, or the O-line and/or game plan let the team down, we could be looking at 8 &10 or even 6 &12 followed by a bloodbath in the coaching ranks. We have to be at or very close to .500 after the Labour Day game, or the sharks will start to circle.

Well, at least we're not going to be the laughingstock of the league this year.
