Man, I was listening to some post game coverage yesterday.

Zach mentioned that bailey was playing through a hamstring tear. Schoen was obviously limited. Demski hadn't been able to practice in weeks.

Just had a full receiving core full of limping, half-speed bodies. No wonder Zach couldn't find anyone.

If only we had capable backups the coaches were willing to play instead!

We literally tried to "Weekend At Biggie's" our way through a Grey Cup.

Wow. I haven't read all the posts but the few I read sounded like lemmings running in unison off the cliff.  That's not the same as saying everything mentioned was wrong but can we at least wait and see how free agency plays out?

Except that if it's incomplete we'd be faced with 2nd and long. However that's what we faced be running on 1st down when everyone in the country knew we'd do that. As big an issue is not having a quicker route tree and release to avoid an obvious rush on our QB. One maybe 2 1st downs and the game would have been won. Just one 1st down and we'd have used up another minute on the clock even if we only moved the ball 11 yards.

I don't know about lemmings off a cliff. More like a bunch of lemons in a car heading slowly towards a cliff for 6 months, all of us screaming at the driver to adjust course, but the driver smugly going straight off the cliff anyways because he knows best.

    The driver is Osh.

    We are the lemmings.

    This analogy sucks.

If anyone wants to envision what pure hell could look like, imagine us going to the Grey Cup again next year and losing in Vancouver. The Buffalo comparisons will be unbearable.

I'm not sure what would be worse, the 29-year drought or losing four straight Grey Cups. And the fourth one would be at home in Winnipeg. I realize I'm jumping a lot of steps here but if any team could do this to their fans why not ours

Didn't Calvillo go to 8 Grey Cups in 10 years, and only win 3 of them?

Personally, i thought one big gaffe that has largely gone unnoticed was O Shea not challenging that 'incomplete pass'

Sure, Als were in 3rd down thereafter but that allowed them to punt instead of us getting the ball closer to midfield.

Thoughts? Anyone else felt that was a fumble?

    1. It was a fumble.

    2. Their horrid punter shanked it out of bounds and we weren't much worse off.

The real problem was doing nothing with it.

  5. This is why I hate sports media. On CJOB this afternoon, Jim Toth:

"You put Bighill out there, even at 70/80/90% because he is your best option. Does Gauthier break up that touchdown pass? No chance".

    * 30 seconds later *

"Gauthier had a great game. This is like a Harris - Olivera situation; move on from Bighill because Gauthier is ready"

I don't even know where to start with any of that.

Here we go running QBs out of town again.

The defence cost us this game. Parker in particular was terrible. We had them in 2nd and 18 that should have been lights out.

Our offense could have driven the ball when we had it at midfield with 3 minutes left. They couldn't, but Fajardo and the Als did. Both sides are to blame.

Never watch the highlights until 48 hours after a GC loss. Ever.

The next time I sit at my computer after a loss- I close all my sports tabs and just rant here. It is waaaaay healthier this way.

I still haven't watched highlights of last year.

Life consists of isolated event and patterns, and patterns can be changed. This Grey Cup game was, in so many different ways, a repeat of last year, Collaros was the worst QB on the field, and the defence played well in the first half but rolled over to give up the big plays in the second half, Bomber halftime adjustments were either non-existent or inadequate, Demerio Houston is a puzzlement- obviously talented but every time the opposition needs a big play, they go after him. And the Bomber front 7 were beaten repeatedly. We mocked Fajardo and other Alouette players, but they got the job done, whereas the Bombers' key players did not-I'm looking at you, Collaros. As in 2022, the game was there to be won with even an average effort by our team, but there were too many tight collars yesterday. This is gonna reek for a long time to come, and all we are likely to get from the Bomber brain trust are cliches and platitudes.

Worst part is we know how fickle this sport can be. The last two years of missed opportunity could look even worse if another 29 years (I guess 27 now) pass.

  8. I really think our reputation as an old boys club is going to hurt us in recruiting and free agency. It starts with all the promosing guys we parachute onto the PR, only for them never to get even a sniff. And it ends with a guy like Ambles who will surely spread the word that the Bombers would rather play "their" guy on one leg than give him a chance to help the team win.

I wasn't aware of their comments. Can you elaborate?

Early in the week I didn’t even pack a bag,” said Bighill. “(Brad) Fotty (equipment manager) packed a bag for me, I really didn’t give myself much of a chance at playing. It was a pretty miraculous week with Al (Couture, head athletic therapist) and doc, and the team rehabbing. Yeah, it was pretty miraculous.”

Schoen declined to go into the severity of his ankle, but he was clearly far from 100 per cent as he was limited to three catches for 36 yards. Bighill tried to tough it out but couldn’t play the entire game on defence and ended with one tackle.

“It’s frustrating when it’s the most important game of the season, the biggest game of my career, and I wasn’t able to practise for the last few weeks going into that,” said Schoen, who hadn’t participated since going down on Oct. 6. “But you know, I was super grateful for the opportunity to play. The training staff here did an amazing job to get me ready, or at least, ready enough to get out there and be on the field. I don’t know many coaches out there that would be OK with a player not practising for six weeks and then throwing him in for a championship game. Coach believes in us as players, so, I really appreciate him.”

  10. As pissed as I am at Zach, make a play "dark side". Two years in a row you can't stop an inferior offense from taking the game from you. The Crum-back game was a warning sign, and the Dolegala labour day game was the clincher. In a close game, this defense can't be counted on anymore to get it done.

And the comments from Biggie and Schoen show both of them were as surprised they were playing as we were, so Oshea needs to explain to the rest of his roster and an entire city why those two guys feelings are more important.
