Fred C Dobbs reacted to fan4life in Jim Bell out as Bombers COO
I really hope certain members of the BOD sit down with Jim for an effective exit interview. When the person that has been their lead financial person is shown the door and the organization has significant debt repayments coming, it should set off some alarm bells. Unfortunately the City doesn't have an appointed person so the City is shut out of the exit interview process. I would expect Vince Barletta and Debbie Metcalfe from the Board to have very detailed discussions with Jim on his way out the door. During a 3-13 season, the previous off field management team grew revenues from $16.7M to $24.2M last year. That management team is all gone now. Yes the new stadium was the driving factor but they did grow corporate revenues in a big way. I doubt very much that Jim was shown the door to save a salary. I think it would have far more to do with future planning and direction inclusive of both future revenue and cost considerations. We have a General Manager, Grey Cup and Vice-President of Entertainment and Events on our senior executive but no other VPs. It looks like Wade has actually been in his position longer than any other member of the Senior Executive. Its clearly Wade's show and for all of us I wish him great success. Best of Luck to Jim and thanks for your dedication and loyalty to the Football Club over some tumultuous times.

Really miss Matty, he was also a lot of fun on the ole Football Hotline. Tubthumper and some of the other so-called football writers....would be well served to go through the Trib archives, and see what good writing actually looks like....and perhaps gain an understanding...of just how bad their stuff really is. Assuming they could actually make the effort.

Fred C Dobbs reacted to Rich in Burke
Agree with this.
Here is the thing. When MOS is asked in press conferences what keeps him up at night or where is he most worried about his roster his answer is always something along the lines of .... I don't worry about those things, we have 46 guys who have to be able to start, thats just the way it is.
Do you think he really believes that if some of the players on this roster are starting we have a hope in hell of winning of course not. But here is the thing, every now and then, some of those guys who the coach thinks can't start, when he gets put out there, he shows up and shows something they've never seen before. That doesn't happen with a coach who is "brutally honest" like Burke. When it is obvious that the coach doesn't believe in the team.
The head coach is the leader of the team, he sets the pace and the tone. And with leadership, sometimes you just have to stretch the truth for the good of those under you. Some men are born to lead and some aren't.

Fred C Dobbs got a reaction from ALuCsRED in Bombers interested in Romby Bryant?
You guys have no idea of what a total schmuck Mike Kelly was.
I can't blame anyone for not wanting to play for him.

Fred C Dobbs got a reaction from Floyd in CFL cuts
Gee, I see it differently:
I was impressed by the way Romby Bryant stood up to that schmuck Mike Kelly, gave him the finger, and forced Kelly to trade him away.

Fred C Dobbs reacted to mbrg in Practice Reports
What he has done best so far is bringing down the ball on plays he has little business making. Unless Urrutia steps up the job should be Kelly's. He is earning it this year.
Usually the guy we have on the wide side is a NI we're stuffing over there in hopes of meeting the ratio and not hurting the team. Kelly on the wide side is actually a threat.

Fred C Dobbs reacted to James in Depth Chart
I'm very surprised they don't have Anderson locked in beside Turner. Only reason I'm nervous about zach is because they're letting Etch have so much control over the personnel on defence.
Not sure why Etch wouldn't like Anderson though, he's got a crazy motor, and he's as fast as a LB'er! He can fly to the ball and is ridiculously athletic for his position

Zach Anderson 3rd on the chart... If Etch ends up cutting him I'm breaking out the pitch fork and torches

Fred C Dobbs reacted to mbrg in Bombers negotiate Transit game day discount
And that is what it would cost if you just took the bus the regular way, but because the Bombers offer free game day bus service they have to enter into an agreement with transit. So if the Bombers ended that agreement and told fans to take the bus the regular fare-paying way, then handed them a five dollar bill when they got off the bus at the stadium, they would save that half million per year. The visual on that is a bit off-putting - handing out money on the street as a means of saving money because of civic government decisions.
I don't think the city owes the Bombers any special treatment. On the other hand, what is the purpose of transit? To move the citizens of Winnipeg around for a minimal cost, to move them around with a minimal environmental impact, and to keep drunks from getting behind the wheel, among other reasons. Why do these reasons not apply for transit riders going to Bomber games? These bus rides still meet all those criteria and still serve the citizenry of Winnipeg.
The telling point to me is that transit agreed to reducing the rate for the Bombers, presumably for those very reasons, and the City choose to overrule transit's decision. The buses don't serve the Bombers, they serve the citizens of Winnipeg. This seems like a terrible decision and one that has Katz's spite at it's roots.
