It was a cheap shot by Simoni no doubt about it.  He went in head first and made no attempt to hold up.  Yes, Collaros is more susceptible to concussions given his past history but that should in no way diminish Lawrence's actions.  2-games would be ideal but he will probably only get 1.  CFLPA will probably appeal it down to a fine, but the commissioner should step in and overrule this otherwise the league looks like a joke in its stance on concussions and protecting the players.

UGh, now we will have to hear from Rider fans all season, after they lose games, how they likely would have won if Collaros had been playing.

I think any logical fan knew Collaros wasn't going to play all year.  He was damaged goods. I don't think that excuses the hit, if anything it probably encouraged it to a certain extent.  Odell Willis took him out last year and basically ended our season. For me it really bothered me to see it end that way for Zack.  Basically the last 2 games of his career he took nasty head shots and the league did nothing about it.  I agree a 2 game suspension is warranted and should not be pled down to a fine by the CFLPA.  Maybe other qb's wouldn't have been hurt on that hit, but you have to honestly ask yourself if want to roll the dice if Nichols is going to get up after that hit.  Or Better yet, What if Harris doesn't get up after that hit, your season would be over without him.  Its easy for people to dismiss things when their team isn't involved, but the league is a community. As a league are we ok with head shots on our qb's when they are sliding feet first?  Interesting incident in the Eskimo game, a Esk's player was flagged for basically same thing. When they showed the replay in slow motion you could see the player making a huge effort to NOT make head contact, which he didn't do. The flag was thrown in error as it turned out. It was a reminder to show how Lawrence mad zero effort to avoid contact with the head when he was in same situation.

No..because Collaeros wouldn't have been the difference.. and many say Nichols is a ham and Eggers.. wasnt it?

And isnt it a team game.. and about depth? Which the riders have not much of..looking forward to seeing your oline next game..

Nichols is what he is.  I'm happy for you that he fits the bill for your team.  Moderately successful. I am very supportive of Nichols having a long career with the Bombers.

Well u all over there say Powell is the best..and you guys have the best running backs.. so shouldn't u guys have won then too?

Reilly had 100 yards on 2 busted plays in first half too..after that he disnt do much in 2nd half..barely over 100 yards..so picked apart is quite the stretch

If your run game is working..u use it to death..btw..how many scores did Harria get..oh yeah none but Nichols tossed 3 tds..shows me a balance well greased offence as opposed to your pea shooter high school one..good luck getting 5 wins with that

You don't suspect us having our third string qb in there might have been a factor in the loss?

Yardage means nothing. When you throw more Ints than TDs you did not have a great game

The first int was a tipped ball.  The second was underthrown a bit but would have helped if the receiver was looking back at qb. You seem hung up on the picks like they were mind blowingly bad or something.  The BC receivers were horrible last night.  Dropped a ton of passes.  They won't be able to throw Reilly under the bus like they did Jennings last year. Big Mike looked ready to snap last night.  Not catching the ball isn't going to cut it with him.

Their defence gave up 3 TD's on busted coverages. If they don't do that, Reilly isn't throwing deep as often. The second int was with 4:26 left when they were behind by 10. Gotta throw deep on that one and take your chances.

Reilly doesn't call his own plays. They didn't or couldn't run. That's not on Reilly. It's on their OC and our DL.

Wins and losses change how we look at QB stats. Nichols takes advantage of 3 BC busts in the end zone, relies on Harris to do most of the work, throws for under 200 yards and everyone around here says he played great cuz we won. Reilly throws for 320+ yards, 1 TD but doesn't get any busts in the end zone to take advantage of and loses. Folks blame him for losing cuz he threw 2 ints.

If Reilly played for the Bombers we'd still have won. If Nichols had played for the Lions, they still would have lost. The key IMO was the 3 busts in the end zone.

    good post

He had poor defences in Edmonton too.

Folks love to give QB's too much credit for the wins and too much blame them for the losses.

The BC defense just let the Bombers chew way too much time off the clock.  That's the beauty of running the ball. You control the clock, you control the game.  Also best way to beat Mike Reilly is to have him sitting on the bench waiting to come on the field

Grymes, TJ Lee, Junior Luke, Willis and Harris would all be upgrades in Sask... maybe even Herdman - at worst he's a wash with Judge

I know the cool thing to do around here is make fun of the Riders. We had the best defense last year in the league, and not much will change this year but yet you pick 5 or maybe 6 players off what is most likely going to be the worst defense in the league and suggest they will be upgrades in Sask??   Wow

We won because one Bomber player had a great game? What game were you watching?

Obviously everyone else chipped in. Lets be honest here and get to the heart of the matter.  Harris is a very good running back, he is even a great running back most of the time.  Rookie head coach was definitely out coached by the more experienced O'Shea.  To not be ready to load the box and shut down Harris was idiotic to say the least.  The Bombers go where Harris goes. BC has a poor defence, can't think of one player I would want on the Riders that plays with them.  So no, obviously one player didn't win it by himself. But the simple and very much expected game plan of just running the ball did the Lions in.  Claybrooks has a lot to learn yet about being a head coach, his inexperience showed last night.  The Bombers played a steady road game and simply made less mistakes than the Lions.

No the bombers won because they are a well rounded team. Nichols was damned good. That deep pass to Adam's was dropped right in his hands, he was money on his endzone tosses too. Just efficient.

NIchol's does pretty well at what they ask him to do, which isn't much.  But you are right, he was efficient.

Nice fact checking, but it was only Ripper you proved wrong. I don't see that as a major feat...

How many 300 yard games did Reilly have?  12.  How many did Nichols have?  1.  Which team ran the ball and which team passed down field with it?  Gable got his carries in games when they were ahead. Running the ball was never their game plan.  No different than yesterday.  Genius game planning by Ritchie to be ready to shut the run down.  They only tried 4 times, I guess you scared them off. Meanwhile Reilly had no problem picking you apart for another 300 yard game.  Dam lucky for you the BC receivers dropped about 10 passes or it would have been worse.

Wasn't a big fan of the chicken dance. He should definitely tell Carter that he was a coward,  but I thought he was lucky to not to take a taunting penalty for the dance.

He took a bad penalty after the 2nd int, too. He played very well, but maybe needs to tone it down after the whistle. Maybe it was just excess adrenaline for game 1.

Its just part of what you get when you have Carter on your team.  He is all-over the map.   You will find that with Willie Jefferson this year

4 rushing yards on 4 attempts. Great play calling in a back and forth 1 score game. Guess Claybrooks and company are just going to let Reilly heave it up 50 times a game and hope for the best. Good luck with that.

When does a MIke Reilly team ever run the ball?  I don't see this as a major feat.  That's about the same as stopping NIchols from manning up and standing in the pocket and passing

and still a mystery who is the 13th man.

Most people believe it was Sean Lucas.  The Riders never confirmed but i'm sure they know who wasn't supposed to be on the field.  The other suspect was Armstead, no need for anyone in endzone to catch kick when the clock has run out.  None the less we ran Kavis out of town. He will be hated forever in Sask
