Believe me, I think very little of Nichols but he’s the best of the bad QBs in the CFL. I suppose he doesn’t do much for the Riders in this hypothetical scenario because this really should be the time for you guys to seek out the future QB as the roster isn’t great right now and you have the luxury of time with minimal win now pressure.

You summed it up fairly well. This why I can't see why we would have any interest in him. He doesn't offer anything we don't have. I felt and feel the same about Collaros. I was pissed about the dirty hit but better it was game one, now we can play the kids and get better. This will be Nichols last year in Winnipeg.

It’s more than likely true only because Collaros is both terrible and almost certainly nearing the end. It wouldn’t be a massive upgrade but it would be an upgrade.

I wouldn't even consider him for 500k, He is at least 100k over paid.  I don't like him at all, at any price to be honest but IF the Riders brought him in Cost would be a huge consideration. He doesn't bring much to the table to warrant that salary whether anyone here wants to admit it or not

Hey after the rain delay t was a 7-7 tie after the Argo's decided to put forth a bit of effort and fight...and no...it wasn't that the Riders took foot off the gas so don't even go there....and all the talk about a record breaking pace in reference to Dunnigans's game was funny as well...

That rain delay saved them. It gave them 2 hours to regroup from the **** kicking they were getting.

Y'know what has good entertainment value? Watching your team face the prospect of going 0-3 to start the season.

Don't change the subject. Thread is about Nichols and whether the stats matter. I get accused of trolling, I am not trolling this thread.  No one is touting the Riders as a cup contender, so if making fun of us with a backup qb makes you feel better about Matt, have at it

Nichols' play the last season+ probably is playing a role in lower than expected attendance.  Barely any games over 27,000 last season despite the team making the playoffs and having a combined record 10 games over .500 in 2016 and 2017 - the previous two seasons..  People were losing faith last year as to whether he could win a playoff game let alone the Grey Cup.  Things reached a crisis point at the Banjo Bowl.  Fortunately for Nichols, the defense, special teams, o-line and Andrew Harris picked up the slack for his mediocre play in the final third of 2018.  Basically Nichols managed most games.  Rarely, if ever, did we have a game in which Nichols was great.  Not what the fans like to see in a nearly $500K QB.

This thread has some good entertainment in it. I haven't thrown any gas on it. One 300 game last year doesn't leave you inspired?

he seems overwhelmed and almost stunned...to be honest

He definitely looks over whelmed.  But to listen to his interviews, he makes it sound like its no big deal.  What people say and what people do are two different things.  What they do is a window to the soul.  So far he looks over his head.  BUT lets be honest, other coaches have been down this road too.  That's why I mentioned that we will have to wait and see what we have.  I didn't really want to hire him.  You can't hire a rookie head coach and not give him a fair opportunity to get things going his way. Two games is not enough time.

so does that make the Riders the worst of the bad teams..seeing as you lost to both...all excuses aside, good teams don't lose due to excuses

Shivers wasn't on the field though making plays...your DB's were being beat repeatedly, and the d-line didn't get any sustained pressure or push so maybe it's overated expectations of personnel, or just not that good of personnel

Honestly its hard to say which way we are going right now.  Good defensive showing in one game, and good offensive showing in the other. Guess we will see where it goes from here.  We made changes, it will take some time. I haven't been happy with Dickensen so far

Still waiting on our resident Rider fans analysis of the game. Ripper. Are you ok with the loss? Are you concerned? What went wrong? What needs fixing if anything?

Shivers made the mistake of letting Davis run around. He's a nothing as a qb, should have made him stand there and throw, same a s Masolli.   We sat in zone too much and we got scorched on it. Shivers will get better, I hope, but I feel the majority of the loss sits at his feet.  Offense looked good, but its just one game. We lost and that's all that matters. We lost 2 winnable games against two bad teams

Their D line (traditional strength) and corners didn't look that good.   Of course, one game in.....

They look mortal this year.  Been a long time since we could say that. Hate to say it as a Riders fan but you have a potential shot at being a first place team this year.  Injuries and what not, but definitely the best shot in recent years I would say.  Lots of football to play yet.

Stamps lose Junior Turner to a season ending injury, sign Jabar Westerman as replacement today........

I viewed him as one of the guys that would have to step up this year to fill some voids.  If the Stamps slip this year it will definitely be their defense that looks a shadow of its former self at the moment.

The full diaper that is Prider World didn't begin when Collaros got signed or even got hurt.

It began the day Jones publicly undermined Durant for refusing a pay cut

Which begat The Plan . Which begat revolving door QBs.

Which the usual suspects slapped their flippers together like trained seals in support rather than show a lack of support for Jones.

So don't let them spin this like this is some overnight emergency suddenly thrust upon them.

I really enjoy your never ending put downs towards the Riders, I can see everyone else here does too.  I guess if I was a Tigercat fan, I too would want to talk about everything else but my team.  For all your Chris Jones jokes, he was over 500 2 out of 3 years he was here, 27-27 record.  Your team not once over 500 in a soft east division with a 21-33 record, in fact your Grey cup drought is only 9 years less than the current one the Bombers are on.   For you Bomber fans over same 3 year period the Bombers are a very respectable 33-21 in a tough west division.   So without further ado, I'll return you to your put downs and half truths....

    Hey @Ripper

    How’s your QB situation going?

About as well as we figured it would.  No one thought Collaros would make the season. Sad to see him go out like that, but is what it is. If we have a prayer it will be with Harker and a run game.  Guess we will see.  Better it was game one than game 10

    Fill your boots?

Now that the Riders are in that very precarious position in the QB situation, sarcastically taking shots at a successful QB who is winning games in our system, seems petty.

But I understand, your season is already in jeopardy and deflecting is a defence mechanism. Wading in the CFL waters without a starting QB.

You only wish you had boots.

I've got rubber boots.  Does that count

so Glenn turned down the Riders...thats funny and Glenn is a very smart man obviously who wants no part of that fiasco

My opinion but Dickensen mentioned salary cap limitation to how much they wanted to pay a qb.  I gathered that Glenn wanted more money than the Riders wanted to pay a backup

  15. 17 minutes ago, Booch said:

31 and 14 is a bit  more than moderately successful isn't it? Included ion there was when the team really sucked when he first started and his injury riddled last season especially the 4 game brain fart stretch

He is doing great, no reason not to be super excited. If having a guy who's only job is to not f-up and hand it off to Harris is the definition of success for you, fill your boots.
