Singer is evidence of everything wrong with our coaching staff

  • Yeah Singer needed to be playing earlier and they should have tried a couple games with Broxton at LT and Poncius or Vanterpool at RT, even if they had to say Bryant was injured, whatever just make it

  • Bombers needed to win tonight and they did, good on them

We’ve seen against Edmonton and Toronto that this group can be dominant. Put those two first halves together as a whole game and we are blowing teams out. Of course we haven’t proven to be able to put two halves like that together yet, but it is theoretically possible.

Also against Montreal in Winning not that long ago....

How would Brown do next year with Zach as his OC? Is Zach ready for that much responsibility?

could not be worse than hogan or tc.

A point that is being somewhat lost in the discussion:

  1. The Stamps stacked the box to stop Brady O

  2. This opened up the passing game and ZC & Co. hung 450 yards on them

  3. The Vaval KR TD was beyond explosive

Bottom Line: this team can be insanely good

They didn’t stack the box, the played gap sound and we still averaged 7ypc in the few runs we had.

nothing opened up the pass game. zach was taking contested shots down field and the wrs had a strong game.

Insanely good is a bit hyperbolic when we just beat the 2nd worst team in the west.

If you we ran a competent offensive system with good balance, and deal with bryant, the O could be good.

D is almost more concerning at this point. Completely helpless in 2nd and long, no disruption up front, can’t cancel gaps, inane player useage only makes it harder.

Yeah even tho the Stamps had that scheme like you said we were still getting good yards none the less....if TC had any sense he would have kept at it...let the oline really get in the zone and force cgy to go away from their gameplan...we did win, but it took some real nice work by the receiver's for sure

Singer adds quite a bit as he attacks the ball and runs to it and is already in a position to make hay...For a lot of this yr our guys just would be either static or just end patterns and more or less wait on a ball. Singer always moving...and it kinda rubbed off on some others and allowed ZC to go off schedule as much as he did.

There was some intersting oline schemes too actually...slides an misdirection stuff to influence the defence where ZC rolled out of the pocket to get guys crossing..It wasnt always as some have said he was "running for his life" some of it was intentional and they allowed the defence to push thru...but going kind of the wrong way...When we had collapses in line all yr and the qb tried to move out and got creamed it was because guys were coming thru all over.

And really one of the sacks any other QB here would have escaped that as ZC has zero giddyup...especially in his first few strides and he was pulled down from behind

But I bet with that same oline to close out the season they will be looking pretty good...Elsbury as an extra burning a DA is bad tho...and If they wanna keep that a thing I'd rather Vpool be brought on instead...And if they truly feel that Vibert is just not good enough as the 6th then why he been here all yr?

Defence really was exposed a bit when Smith went down...hopefully he back this week and that was just preventative...But he adds so much to the defence

If he is back and healthy then there should be no reason for the sets with Kelly on doing jakshit over Griffin...Thats just insane

Nope

Thsts the best line looked all yr..and if nobody noticed no guys free wheeled un touched on the inside..or edge rush..right blocking calls were being made...by the effing center....plus he manhandled guys all night

I've been a big fan of Eli for years...it's been mistifying to me how this has been so damn hard to give him a chance! perhaps he gets another game or two!

Spots can and are also earned in camp...its called open competition.

What did cobb..corcoran..even neild for that matter do to earn a spot...then maintain it during the season..absolutely nothing. They got their positions based on being here previously or being a vet/returning player, along with the predetermined idea we were gonna run 3 canadians regardless of what occurred in camp...even tho ratio didn't require it...plain and simple. This was purely a HC choice and a poor one at that...and it happens here all too often

The languishing all yr on the PR didnt make him all of a sudden have the ability...or make him better..sure he worked hard and some will say "earned" it but your pr players...heck all your players should be working hard earning their spots...or be dumped

Sadly we most likely took a R.O Y award out of his hands...good chance he ends up the yr with 500+ yards in what...7 games?

And we wonder why free agents clear outta here first chance they get?

Stamps are not a great team, but I was not expecting ZC to get 450 passing yards, against what is arguably the best DL in the league. It was a good performance.

Is this a true statement? It seems the team hangs on to players past their best before date rather than players running away.

The past few years I have heard more anecdotes about players wanting to come back, but seemingly not being wanted (Tyrell Ford, Grant, Jeffcoat, Bailey, Harris, Wolitarski), then anyone specifically jumping ship and saying good riddance. It kind of seemed that Wheatfall was in that last category and people here seemed upset about that, but with the emergence of Singer who cares.

A number of the highest profile players leaving ending up signing deals that put them at or near the top of the pay scale for their position (Ford, Hardrick, Lawler)... a few of them who left even came back at least once! (Castillo, Lawler, Lucky Whitehead... I might even through Dru in this camp).

Stamps are a great team offensively. They've scored 600 points but a dreadful team defensively. Giving up almost as much as the RedBlacks.

We lose young players after their first deal is finished. We basically draft a player or a young free agent in his earlyn to mid 20's then lay the foundation for their career. Then away they go. We end up signig older free agents who cost more.

He should have just joined the military and served for two years, then Osh would have started him immediately.

Sure, it is to a certain extent. However, you can't tell me that decisions aren't made to keep fading veterans or guys who just are role playing special teamers while letting impact players like Ford, Lawler & Hardrick go. If the Bombers really wanted to sign some of these impact players they'd have the money to do so by cutting these backup special teamers to free up cap space. We don't do that. We lost Lawler & hardrick but we never replaced them There are always great free agents receivers available but only a few sigb here.

Weren’t we way under the cap last year (despite hosting the Grey Cup)? We absolutely could have kept at least Lawler. If we had maybe we don’t have to send Schoen onto the field injured out of sheer desperation, which effectively ended his career.

Those 3 guys all signed deals at the top of their position groups. Lawler was at the top, I think a 34 year old Hardrick was 3rd (at the top that season was Desjarlais who went to Ottawa instead after his NFL sojourn).

Ford was annoying because it sounded like he might have been interested in staying but he signed a deal that put his 50% above the next highest defensive back.

As fun as it would be, it's literally impossible have a player at the literal top of each position group.

It would be more annoying if someone like Jaylen Smith were to walk... Those depth guys who show promise when they get reps but when they are ready for full time work they end up elsewhere and contribute for another team... I can't really think of many of those guys who have left the past half decade or so.

We pay our safety ...and 2 HB' combined more than prob most teams pay their whole secondary...and that's crazy as that is a position in the CFL where you prob as a group have the lowest avg salaries on a team...Between Holm/Nichols and Kramdi we have about 550k tied up there..Thats just mentally insane...actually stupid...

Theres zero reason we couldnt have kept Ford...prime Lawler and Dobson all here if we cut bait with high earning vets who were not worth it anymore...we choose to allocate money in dumb ways while we did nothing to develop any reasonable sucessors

How and where you allocate your money matters, and if it means having to cut bait from some older pieces...or adapt your ratio accordingly to bring in proven new younger blood as opposed to over paying for degrading older guys...you do that looking forward and with a plan...not backwards and justifying it with past performances, espcially when the past in terms of football life was eons ago....

Oh I agree in misallocation of the salary cap, but the original comment was re: free agents running to the hills when in reality a veteran in Bomberland is a pretty cushy gig.

One caveat I would say though, is Fords contract in 2025 I think was agreed to even before that giant cap raise, and Holm/Nichols/Kramdi signed when there was a bunch more money floating around. When Ford signed he was the only DB over 160k, and now that is the bottom of the top 10.

I believe it starts up front. They have at long last done some addition by subtraction on the OL, and hopefully the trajectory keeps going up.

There are still improvements that could be made, but those do not seem to be forthcoming

The OL was awful again. What we did that helped was quit pretending they aren't hot garbage and ran max and super max protection all game instead. Lots of people here believing that Tui was the difference, lotsa ppl not acknowledging that we went 6-7 man fronts more than we have all season long.

They aren't; they are between the worst in the West and the second-worst. The Stamps are probably the only team that is as confounding to follow as we are. Immense talent, even at some of the most important positions, but consistently underperforms. I don't think anyone expected Zach to throw for 350, which is very good passing output for our offence. But doing so at the expense of running is a huge risk. One we saw led to issues on D, as our guys were gassed.

I wouldn't say it was a great performance because it isn't repeatable or sustainable. It was extremely fortunate in terms of outcome.

We didn't, though; we used 6+ man pass pro more against Montreal and Edmonton. We used an average amount of max pro. The biggest change to the protection scheme in terms of alignment was keeping Brady in or on chip and release most of the game. We used the single back set the fewest times we've seen all year.

Max pro also does not help with interior pressure, which is where we saw the improvement.

Previously, we gave up sacks to 30 fronts in Edmonton and Montreal with 6+ blockers. And we put up something like 270 yards rushing in those 3 games.

The OL is not fixed. But we have solved the biggest issue. And again, that was against the hardest DL to play, with very few running attempts to the 3-minute warning. It's a great step forward, and this week will be big to see if we can build on what they showed inside. Frankly, I don't expect Bryant to be replaced or suddenly improve. I do think Broxton can play better, though he was far from a big problem.

I expect Neufeld and Bryant to retire finally after this year, and I don't see replacements lined up with the right passport. Vanterpool at guard would be great down the road. We are gonna have to find a way to get another high-end tackle in the offseason, though.

I wish I could see it as optimistically as you. RIght now, I see the only guys worth keeping being Broxton and Neufeld and I think Neufeld retires. Gabe, Eli/Elsbury and Bryant have been well below league average and we need better. You can hide one below average guy, maybe 2 with the right scheme but 3 matadors and you get the kind of season we are seeing right now. I'm not sure what the plan is but I think it starts with spending in FA to fix the interior and the scouts finding us someone waaaaaaaay better than Vanterpool to take over for Bryant. Not sure that is achievable in one offseason so at the very least we need 2 new OG and for Eli to finally get it and get after it next year. We can't roll out ZC for another year, and it isn't because he couldn't still play...it's because at this stage of his career he can only thrive behind a top notch OL and we don't have one and are unlikely to get one. Just hoping and praying that Cline is in camp next year. That would be a massive help. Wallace is a 6th OL at best and Neufeld/Bryant are likely to retire. Yikes

You trying to preach to a hater tho..I rewatched again and they hardly hot garbage...eli never really got outpowered or overnatched at all..guys may have penetrared eventually but that always will happen..the times it did he had time to make a read and escape if wasn't there..he only got really popped once and was glancing on that back handed flip pass he made

Multiple deep shots were designed if a person was to rewatch and several were also made from in the pocket..and if we used 6 man protection at times..our double tights at times isnt that good scheming and usage of assets? No? To me it is..and what teams dont do that?

Mtl prob does and did way more than we do..and way more than anyone..guess they are hot garbage too then eh? So claims the site eli hater/osh boot suckered

Also..in our hey day the majority of ZC succes was outside the pocket..scripted sprint and roll outs..was never great stuck in the pocket..that is lost on many here too

The biggest thing with the center play last game was every snap on the money..chest high..crisp..and kept ZC eyes focused on defence..which allowed him to look almost vintage..just like when Couture was here...that was the biggest thing

Anyone who didnt see/recognize that and effect it has with just fractions of a second of time saved is for lack of better term an effing douchball..straight up

I also didnt see really any bad or missed blocking calls or him getting pegged with clean shots over and over with the amount of plays zc changed on the line of scrimmage in itself shows that the center in that game had his sh!t together

You said out line is trash..and zc can't thrive behind it..yet he prob had one his best games of the yr...and Eli has had 2 starts at center..and in both looked bett we r than Big Legs..so woukdnt the smart coach go with who looked better? Honest question..

Another thing...if we have a hc who doesn't use camp to evaluate and allow best players to play..and pick his roster with the guys who played and showed the best...does it really matter who is in camp? Another honest question as we know all too well how the roster at camp break comes out

I'm quite honestly flabbergasted that people think this was a poor game by the OL.... Like do people just ignore how bad they've been most of the season? They were 1000% worse against Montreal just a week prior.

Just out of curiosity to test an assumption, we aren’t getting the same exact game tape as the BB coaches have correct? ie rewatching a televised game that predominantly follows the ball versus BB coaches having video on each position per play that shows more than the televised game?

You can't keep everyone so you target the guys you want. I don't believe we do that.

I can't with this guy.

"I know running the football up here solves world peace and terrorists,” said offensive co-ordinator Tommy Condell. “But what we need to be able to do is we gotta be a physically violent football team, and that’s with the run or pass, but we have to throw to score points."
