I tried to watch Eli, too and it is difficult to assess play whether at the game or on TV but from what I saw, I thought he looked fine with blocking (don't know about calling blocking assignments) and, IMO, his snaps were noticeably better than Elsbury's. (Every split second counts for the QB.) IMO, he is better than Elsbury. Why the coaches went with a rookie American this year over a veteran Canadian, who was trained as a C, is baffling. Could it be some deep-seated grudge that O'Shea has against Eli for refusing to get a covid vaccination back in the day. I'm not clear on this but was Eli suspended over it?

Ah, Daniels, the forgotten (invisible) man. I hope he was blocking OK because he certainly isn't being used as a receiver.

Yep, I noticed Collaros doing a lot more audibling than normal. And, that's a good thing!

I tri d to watch Daniels a bit when he was in as he gets alot of heat on here...from what I saw he did well blocking.....tried to watch Eli, but honestly it's so hard to try and focus on the line like that...so I honestly could say much either way....

Tinfoil hat for a second here...Zach seemed to change many plays....I wonder how much of this game was Zach saying flub it to the play calls and just adlibing. The offence looked different last night...

Tinfoil hat off....it was Avery exciting game to be at the atmosphere was great the weather amazing, and we get to close out this season with a win on our last home game!

Daniels was solid for his role, because we had the extra imp ol dressed daniels was blocking down on smaller guys all night, which he is far better at. Also, he had a key block on the td return by vaval.

Good observation on zach checking plays. Calgary didn’t do any thing exotic, but our called play seemed to need to be checked most of the time. It looked like zach was wanting to attack the deep seams in calgarys coverage, and it seems like that was never the base play call.

As often happens, the play call seemed frustratingly slow to come in for zach.

The best way to watch the C, is following the bend of the interior ol. If it looks like a flat line between the guards, or a slight capital A shape, with the C slightly past the Gs, that means the C is stone walling or pushing back any defender on them. If you see a V, then the C is being driven back.

You can simplify that by the direction of the Cs shoulders when the ball is thrown. if they are facing the offensive end zone it’s good so long as you haven’t given up an interior pressure. If they are facing a side line and they are helping a G then it was a tough rep or they helped late. If they are angling to the back field it’s bad, if they are square to your qb, the qb is likely eating dirt.

If the middle 3 stay relatively shoulder to shoulder with no gaps in pass protection, that’s a good sign of strong C play.

With pass pro in the cfl, the interior generally plays tight to each other to eliminate interior gaps, forcing a pass rush to knock down an ol or go around to get to the back field. Body blocking by plugging up lanes, a lot like a defense canceling gaps in the run game. When interior ol are getting pulled apart and having to kick step or drive like a tackle it’s a big sign of problems.

IMO The biggest difference in the OL was Zach himself. He turned back the clock, got out of trouble, shed tacklers, and made plays like it was his first game in Blue.

Zach was pressing down field all night, I wouldn’t say that helped the ol, but he did side step pressures and half roll to buy time a few times. It’s a cooperative thing really, the ol didn’t give pressure up the middle so zach could slide out, and he did a very good job of making decisions on the roll and connecting on shots to punish calgary.

His snaps were great..consistent and exactly where you train centers to put them..hence ZC actually looked like some vintage ZC quite often this game..he was able to see things as ball was snapped and react accordingly...he also seemed way more comfortable and not panicked and turtling almost immediately as his interior wasn't getting compressed right into his face

I purposely watched the interior and the 3 guys worked as they should..sure there were a few tones some pressure packages worked but thats football and happens to all lines...but the fact ZC wasn't playing constantly in terror and got snaps that allowed him to see what's going on thru the whole play he was able to be old zc..rolled out..evaded and made the big off script throws. .and a receiver group that had ability and recognized it..and they had those extra seconds to make plays because it wasny chaos in the backfield..he also had more 40+ yard plays this game than he had all yr...cause he had a pocket for most part..but also when he felt the need..and had time and space to do get outta harms way and make a play..he was able to...before there were guys coming from all lanes and was swamped.

As for blocking calls..did we see guys screaming through untouched thru any A or B gaps...or guys coming off edge clean as a shiny nickle untouched and the QB getting relentlessly popped...over and over...no we did not..which also had an effect on ZC play and prob one his best games of the yr..right when we needed it too...there is a link to all this and stated many times a offence and its success more often than not are predicated from the inside out...we saw that last night

And thats what we saw...pass pro from inside the tackles was as goid as we seen all yr...and that was with multiple blocking calls being switched at line too..if we would have been heavy run if the cgy looks would have gave us the advantage we prob would have really seen that group eat

Prob was a bonus that ZC was able to play this game and recognize his pre snap reads...and not be worried where his snap was gonna be and know he wasn't gonna be running for his life immediately that he was able to take advantage of it...and feel the most comfortable he has looked all yr out there

Yrs

Many here have had those questions for the past three years.

Singer was hummmming along all game....Which begs the question ...why the hell wasn't this guy in the line-up Day 1.....Overall we played like we want our season to continue...A loss would have sidelined us ...Now the question is can we keep it going...The guys showed last night we do have a lot of talent on this club and have the right pieces ....just have to use them right

You know what we got a win, it was a nice night weatherwise and it was a fun game.

Night and day weatherwise today but great night wearing shorts for an evening game in October! Still concerned about the defence being like Swiss cheese. I do not recall the last time they forced a two and out!

On the post game show, ZC said there were probably a dozen run plays that he changed at the line, based off what the defense was showing.

What a game by Zach. Calgary's D strategy made sense: crowd the box and take away Brady. Zach audibling away from the run and beating them with his arm is a real promising development.

I didnt give them a chance to win that one. Glad they made me look like a fool.

Pass blocking was....ok...at times really good and other times really bad. Probably didnt help that the defense didnt need to worry about the run much. Looks like CGYs game plan was to force the Bombers to beat them via passing.

I mean I agree but sometimes there is something towards earning a roster spot, working hard to get onto the active roster. He said something along the lines of his teammates and coaching staff keeping him humble and that he continued to work hard. That being said, this guy is a star in the making, could you imagine if someone picked him up when he was on the PR? I would have been sick.

I agree that players should have to earn their spot but it's hard to justify a guy like Singer waiting this long for his shot when clearly lesser skilled players (like Corcoran for example) make the active roster on day one.

Yeah Singer needed to be playing earlier and they should have tried a couple games with Broxton at LT and Poncius or Vanterpool at RT, even if they had to say Bryant was injured, whatever just make it work. Make the tough change when necessary.... I think it's hard to deny at this point that Singer at least would have had a very positive impact on this team from day one, and using Broxton at the damn position he won the MOL award for, it just looks like common sense. It's hard to defend the coaches' decisions or lack of decisions

Spots can and are also earned in camp...its called open competition.

What did cobb..corcoran..even neild for that matter do to earn a spot...then maintain it during the season..absolutely nothing. They got their positions based on being here previously or being a vet/returning player, along with the predetermined idea we were gonna run 3 canadians regardless of what occurred in camp...even tho ratio didn't require it...plain and simple. This was purely a HC choice and a poor one at that...and it happens here all too often

The languishing all yr on the PR didnt make him all of a sudden have the ability...or make him better..sure he worked hard and some will say "earned" it but your pr players...heck all your players should be working hard earning their spots...or be dumped

Sadly we most likely took a R.O Y award out of his hands...good chance he ends up the yr with 500+ yards in what...7 games?

Very concerning that we played so many 6 and 7 man fronts on O and ZC was still getting flushed. Doug Brown thought the OL play was horrendous in the post game show...what does he know tho.

I could see Zach playing one more year contingent on them fixing the o-line in the offseason.
