THE 5–5 FOLLIES: MIKE O’SAME AND THE BLUE BOMBER MUSEUM

Ladies, gentlemen, hobos, rounders and prairie plutzkies…your 2026 Winnipeg Blue Bombers are 5–5, which is a PERFECT record if the objective is to be neither good nor bad enough to force anybody in management to do something.

These Bombers are a football slot machine. Pull the handle and maybe you get a half of competent football…maybe you get 377 rushing yards surrendered to B.C.…maybe you get a 16–0 lead in Edmonton followed by three points and 35 yards of offence in the second half. Nobody knows! Least of all the fellows being paid to know.

After every fresh disaster, out strolls head coach Mike O’Same, president and founder of S.A.M.E.—Stand Around, Mutter Excuses. Mikey surveys the smoking crater and announces that the fellas simply needed to make two or three more plays. Brilliant! The Hindenburg merely needed a couple more buckets of water.

Meanwhile general manager Kyle Waiters, also known as the Duke of Stand-Pat, watches every other CFL club bring in receivers, defensive backs and pass rushers while Winnipeg guards its practice roster like it contains the lost treasures of King Solomon. Weak receiver room? Wait. Confused secondary? Wait. Ancient offensive line creaking like a haunted hotel? WAIT HARDER. Eventually another team will accidentally release an all-star directly into Kyle’s office.

Then we have offensive coordinator Tommy Con-Dull, architect of the CFL’s last-place red-zone operation. Give Brady O-FEED-ME-ra the football and he bulldozes Edmonton for more than 100 yards before halftime. Naturally, Con-Dull responds by hiding Brady in the second half like he owes the coaching staff money. Why use your best offensive player when you can have Zach Colla-Rust fling another hopeful balloon toward a receiver moving with the speed of a refrigerator being dragged through wet cement?

On defence, coordinator Jordan Yawner has installed his famous Prevent-Us-From-Winning scheme. Rush three, rotate seventeen defenders, place the defensive backs somewhere near Brandon and graciously concede the seven-yard completion. The opposition needs eight yards? Give them twelve. Need to protect field-goal range? Back everybody onto Portage Avenue. Watching this defence communicate before the snap is like watching six tourists assemble furniture without the instructions.

The crazy part is there are still some genuine ballplayers trapped inside this travelling carnival. Brady remains the engine. Trey Va-VOOM is one of the most dangerous returners in the country. Willie Sackerson and Jake Sack-resna can still wreck an offensive line. Nic Demski continues to fight. But individual talent cannot overcome an organization that treats adjustment like an admission of guilt.

Now the 9–1 Montreal Alouettes come marching into town. Mike O’Same will tell us the room is confident. Kyle Waiters will continue waiting. Jordan Yawner will station the secondary in St. Boniface. Tommy Con-Dull will discover a new method of reaching the four-yard line and emerging with three points.

The prescription is painfully simple:

  1. FEED BRADY until the other club proves it can stop him.

  2. Play the best players—not the fellows with the longest service pins.

  3. Attack on defence instead of operating a government-funded receiver-relocation program.

  4. Bring in actual competition before the season becomes an archaeological exhibit.

  5. If the same problems keep producing the same losses…CHANGE SOMETHING.

The dynasty is gone, folks. What remains is a 5–5 club living off the fumes of what it used to be, driven by coaches who appear convinced that stubbornness is a substitute for adjustment.

But don’t worry.

Mike O’Same says they’re only a couple plays away.

Prolly.

It sounds like Nate, but it doesn't FEEL like nate. Not nearly enough jabs at buchko and Bauer for me.

Needs a few wrestling references too.

Nate was always good for a giggle, an eye roll, and usually a WTF or two.

That was great, Rich. Loved iot. Sums everything up quite nicely.

Pretty close. Does anyone know if he’s still around in some capacity? I remember after he was banned here he went to the rider forum for a little bit and used to crap on the bombers to earn some good grace until they got tired of his schtick. I do remember him and some poster who claimed to be Ricky Foleys brother having some fun conversations. If I remember correctly he thought he was a big shot because his brother was a decent CFL player at one point.

There was a Freep article about him a while ago. Leading Poetry readings at a seniors' residence.

He and Foley's brother both got banned at RFs as well and went over and joined GoStampsGo where they redirected their hate to RF, then they had a massive blowout with each other and RadioRyan banned them both and he and Childress were left as the only two who posted regularly on the forum until. I believe but can't prove, even Childress got sick Of Ryan's drivel.

Saw the Bombers added Eli Pancol to their neg list the other day. 6'2 205 lbs former Duke receiver that runs a 4.33 40 time. Just got cut by the Colts. I don't know if he's ready to come north but that's an intriguing athlete.

Strong as an ox too...23 reps on the 225 Bench...Thats getting in elite numbers for a WR so could be a nice prospect to win contested balls

9.73 RAS out of 10. That is an extremely elite score.

He looks like more of a YAC guy than a downfield target. Though he should be fully capable of playing downfield. Hands look really good. He does not look 4.3 fast on the field, but he is smooth with good speed and acceleration. Some of that could be the offence he ran. It would be very interesting to see what he could do up here with all the room on the field, maybe even in the slot with the waggle.

Has Pancol cleared waivers? Indy fans seem to think he is a shoe in for the PR

EDIT: he will not be getting a PR spot from the Colts at least.

Only takes 24 hours to clear waivers and he was released on the 30th so he was free to sign anywhere (including the Colts PR) yesterday.

yeah...Metrics scream possible big success up here on this field. I can see him mirroring what Schoen did if he masters that waggle....possibly more explosive as he is faster

He runs very smooth which i think makes him seem like not as fast as time...but that's the beauty of it as it can fool a defence and they lose their angle in a blink of an eye...seems to have that knack of making moves without gearing down...like Denmark was good at, and then has the extra gear after he catches it

being an undrafted guy...hopefully plays against him, but benefits us...may be a low priority waiver guy for most teams cause of that and stupid NFL thinking

Receivers are so hard to judge by their resumes. He looks like he has all the tools, but that damn waggle has killed a boat load of IMP receivers dreams. Worth trying to bring in tho.

Can always stick him out at the Cobb position...traditional wideout while he learn if he doesn't grasp it right away. But yeah it's killed a lot of prospects...especially the ones who didnt do homework before coming up...Thats why Schoen did so well...he spent a whole winter practicing it and watching games

Yeah, you can always play a guy at the boundary. But I think it is worth while to try each rookie at slot, you never know when a guy will take to it like schoen.

100 percent

Apparently the Labour Day Classic game has been moved to the evening.
