I’m at camp today. First observation is DeShaan Dixon has the shortest shorts I’ve ever seen on a football player.

  • It’s starting to feel like, a week in, it’s business as usual and we haven’t learned much. Still looks like we’re getting ready to trot out 8-9 Canadians for no reason and value experience above every

I find it extremely strange that two QBs are walking away. Extremely unusual. Even if Wilson could see the writing on the wall, he should at least keep grinding in case someone gets hurt or something else happens. Don't cut yourself, make them cut you. He still could have won the #3 job and had a nice football salary for another year. Very, very weird.

It’s possible there’s some family/personal issue that will make us look like jerks for calling him a quitter, but you have to think the team would have stated that in the press release if that’s the case.

100% but you gotta get the takes out while they're hot

It's not terribly hard to see why either guy left from a football stand point.

As a P4 QB, it's possible that Thorne made more money than Collaros last year and he was likely going to be on the PR.

It's possible that Elgersma is going to be QB2, and Wilson would be going on his 3rd straight year of QB3 if he were to beat out Perkins. Yeah you are playing professional football, but at what point do you pull the plug? He wouldn't be the first person to quit after a few years of not getting Second-team reps, and he won't be the last I'm sure.

Character & leadership. Something Perkins & Wilson don't appear to have. If they still want to play then quitting isn't going to help convince other teams to give them a chance. I can see someone like Jake Dolegala or Mason Fine signed as a fourth qb. They have never quit. Wilson was a waste of time.

Hot Take: They saw how good Elgersma looked and decided they had no future and left.

Hope that's the case!

You mean Thorne and Wilson.

Hot Take: They saw Osh's policy of playing veterans at all costs way past their primes, and decided that they didn't want to wait until 2035 to get a shot at the starting QB.

Yeah, sorry. Thorne & Wilson.

How is Perkins a veteran back up? He's no more a veteran than Ermergerdsma.

This game tomorrow will determine a lot. If the two rookies look good, they won't airlift a veteran like MBT or whatever... They'll find a neg lister to bring in.

If the rookies look like ass, however, then they might panic and being in someone with CFL experience (a "veteran", if you will ..)

Brilliant. Will be stealing and passing off as my own.

As to the rest of the post, I just think this was the plan all off season. We never brought in a vet QB, even before Ermergerdsma was signed. Perkins was signed with the hope that he could fill the Streveler role. Whether that’s purely SY or the primary backup will likely depend on how the preseason goes, but I’m putting my money on Ermergerdsma.

All I know is tomorrow is going to be VERY interesting. In some ways, Condell's job just got way easier, but if both TE and BP look like ****, it just got way harder. Pray for the former...

Maybe or it can be a case of Wilson being with the team for a few years feeling like he’s earned his keep and should be the back up, but wasn’t re assured ( nor should he be) and decided to quit. I’m not overly concerned. Thorpe by all accounts has interests else where. I’m going to believe it’s a case they believe in the guys currently on the roster at the quarterback position are going to be in a position to make the team better. I would feel the same way. Wilson is a good short yardage guy but if he’s never going to be a starter, and he’s not a specialist like Stevens really why would we continue to put time and reps.

Elgersma looked legit. Can make all the throws and easily. Wilson? Not so much. Probably saw the new kid come in and throw 40 yard darts downfield and said yeah I’m out of here. Oh well. lol at MBT or any other veteran cfl backup. Why would they do that. Why does the QB need cfl experience cuz the QBs out there are not potential starters. Why bring in guys you know who will never start. If Zach gets banged up it’s TE or BP time. Crazy thought. Maybe just maybe TE and or BP can be starters in the league. Worst case they are crappy cfl backups who just are backups their whole career or maybe they can be franchise QBs. Cuz CFL desperately needs new blood at the QB position, recycling never was and never will be’s is just crazy talk.

You absolutely do. But you need those glue guys to contribute, and you can't have too many guys whose contribution is unquantifiable. The rosters just don't have the flexibility for that up here.

Id argue that some of our biggest glue guys in the GC wins, were guys who played at a high level as well. Kongbo, Hansen, prime Jake, biggie was a huge glue guy, etc.

Idr seeing a depth chart from us in the pre season with soo few imp wrs.

I think the club is extremely high on him.

thats the key...Our depth/role/glue/intangible guys before could step in and play...and have an impact....The gys we have on back half of lineup can step in...but arent quality contributors...and the vets we leaned on then...not old in the tooth with younger more athletic guys being snubbed....big difference

I agree we've gone a little too far in using glue guy to keep some ppl. Just responding that you can't be entirely void of them either

yup...we lost the right balance

Perkins albeut no experience up here...is a seasoned vet...with professional playing time over a number of yrs...in a number of leagues...Maybe he has really picked up the CFL game and Wilson sensed his being cut due to it

I haven't either, but I wasn't looking for him either.

But something I did notice is that everyone is talking about the great improvement with Condell in how strong a communicator he is. Also, his great attitude. In the past years, I saw considerable frustration and angst between Zach and both Hogan and Buck. At first, I thought it was a looking too hard at it thing. But so many others in the organization and media have echoed the same things about Condell.

I don't think Zach was taking shots, nor was anyone else. But I think the interpersonal issues with Hogan are not understated.

Having a normal TC, and not throwing out the playbook come the regular season is going to be a massive boon to our offence.

That O'Shea allowed the travesty that was Hogan to continue all season when even the most optimistic fan saw it as such says volumes about O'Shea- and even Walters.
