Bombers officially out on Schoen. Which is obvious. But hes got an agent and plans to play again once healthy....as per Taylor Allen on the Twitter machine

Really going to miss Schoen on the Bombers, it was a treat getting to watch him play when he was fully healthy.   Always going to be a big what if.   If he could have stayed healthy I think he could have turned into one of the greats. Dumb decisions to play him injured, and man the guy took a pounding after the catch on some less than stellar passes.

Every year a few people on here think the Bombers have a tiny purse while other clubs like Edmonton can go out and sign 5 - 10 starters because somehow they have more money then we do.   I politely bring things up to remind those folks that the Blue are able to go out and sign free agents and that the last few years they really sat on their butts.

At this point if we sign any one else of note it's pure gravy... it's an A+ off season already.

I think it's more like for the last 5 seasons after the years of making a splash with Harris/Jefferson/Bighill in free agency, we've mostly been a wagon and just spent most of the payroll on retaining the guys we have.  Although we've slowly lost 1-2 guys per year and are back to where we can afford to spend big again.

The thing that stands out on the roster still, is back up QB. With wilson seemingly expired, and strevy toast, the back ups are ugly.

As per cfl.ca free agent list ,  the remaning options would be:

MBT

Caleb Evans

Shea Patterson

Tyrie Adams

Matt Shiltz

Logan Bonner

Chase Brice

Jeremiah Masoli

But that is my point.   We can spend big money on a 1 - 2 guys in FA each year and still have enough money to sign other quality free agents.    This year we paid the highest amount for a RB and an olineman.   We also paid big money for a receiver, a dlineman,  another oline, etc....

It's not like Walters has to wait 5 seasons to save enough money to start spending again.   At no point did we ever have a Rourke/Adams situation as they had in BC.

oof yeah that’s ugly. Idk that you can be a lot worse than what we did with strevy but yeah.

Shiltz retired too. Masoli is probably just a formality.

The rest is a coin toss of, experience but not success and neither experience or success but they’ve been around.

Let’s hope CFL scouts have a banner offseason scrolling the countryside for QB’s.

whole league sure needs it. But with the pay and the nfls pr size/pay we don’t stand much of a chance. It’s not that they cant find the kids who can play, we can’t get the ones who can. So we try to find the guys who can develop in the bargain bin.

We went from finding guys like ricky ray driving a fritos truck to shopping for never have been guys at dollar general.

Maybe we didn't go after a backup because we are fairly confident in getting Taylor Elgersma here? 🤞

There must be discussions. The fact we didn’t pick up a vet indicates I think they’re confident Elgersma comes to Winnipeg barring a last minute NFL opportunity. I’m also curious to see how Bryce Perkins performs as well as I think he’s has a solid pedigree.

I don't think Elgersma has anything to do with it... They brought in a bunch of Americans to compete. Even if TE was in camp, it's a stretch to expect him to be a #2.

Yeah i agree i was thinking more setting aside the money to get him here..😊 gonna need time to groom the kid if he comes here.

What kills me is... wtf was thislats year.

You know. Something. Something. Grey. Cup. Hosting. Something.

Though it makes sense when O'Shea said you should wanna win the Grey Cup every year no matter if you're hosting or not, it sounded like a big excuse at the same time.

Welcome back Kyle Walters. Finally addressing our trenches. A year too late but nothing can be done about that now.

Not to piss on the parade, but a question for those who know this stuff.... How concerned should we be about Ceresna's meniscus injury last year? Is this similar to Schoen and Strev situation where it could fall apart again midway through this season?

A meniscus tear is easily fixable unlike a ligament tear especially an ACL. The recovery time is a fgraction of the time for a meniscus. if everything heals properly with rehab Ceresna will be good to go come training camp.

The Bombers slept thru ftree agency last season not seeming to care if anyone signed or left. I hope we never have an off season like that again. Looks like lesson learned.

Is Nick Arbuckle a gfree agent?

I think no QB signing because that kid they drafted is coming here. Time will tell.

Walters had attitude in the pressor and had intent for change. I'm not surprised. I am happy we managed to land clear targets for us

What a great start to feb

NIL definitely isn't helping things here.

The baseline for a power 4 QB has to be around 500K/yr for NIL at this point? Tough sell getting those guys to come up here for 2 years making peanuts just for a chance to be able to make almost as much as they made in college.

It'd be great for Elgersma to sign up here and start learning under Oshea and Collaros, potentially Zachs last season.

nil money is no joke. Very very few will retire on that money, but it certainly slows down the flow of guys here. And leaves them far more comfortable sitting and waiting for chances at a pr spot.

Cfl qb money for the young guys has to go up.

It also hurts that a guy like rourke put up a huge season and barely got a sniff. It’s been a long time since the days of the cfl prouducing qbs like garcia flutie etc for the nfl. Or the nfl taking long looks at guys like dickie and burris.
