Truckers Resurrect Bananas Theory About Trudeau’s Real Dad

Americans have not cornered the market on bananas conspiracy theories. The Canadian truckers who blocked a bridge to the U.S. over vaccine mandates have seized one that was debunked ages ago about Justin Trudeau.

“There was a release of some of their online chat rooms and… they think that Fidel Castro is actually the biological father of Justin Trudeau, our prime minister,” Canadian author and frequent New Abnormal guest Jeet Heer tells co-host Molly Jong-Fast.

Molly, naturally, is flabbergasted. “I thought this was pretty stupid, but I had no idea,” she says of the so-called “Freedom Convoy."

That just fuels their confirmation bias that JT has communist blood flowing through his veins.

The other things they pick up on are his socks and his hair.

Since when is the premier the boss of the chief of police?

Yea...the Premier literally has nothing to do with the WPS.

Heather is not his boss. That would be Brian.

I'm assuming he's talking about the fact that Bowman was unable to order the police to remove protesters due to provincial legislation which prevents elected officials from directing the operations of the police.

There are still a fair number of Reformers for sure. However, AD just did a poll on support of the Freedom Convoy and 67% of those who identified as CPC voters stated they were strongly opposed to the Freedom convoy with a further 11% saying they had no opinion on it. It is left wing propaganda that the right is united in support of this. Far from it. Also, NDP has 17% of its voters polled say they were strongly in favor of the Freedom Convoy and Liberals 12%. There is support across the political spectrum and definitely the vast majority of Canadians, of ALL 3 parties. strongly opposing it. While the CPC certainly has the highest % of support amongst it's members it is still in the very small minority of it's membership and in line with what the overall national numbers of support/opposition is.

Yet the frontrunner for the next leader has been emphatic in support of the occupation (despite basically saying the complete opposite against indigenous protestors previously). As well as the current interim leader until big business let her know that it was hurting them too. The damage was already done.

Clearly just looking for political/personal power, regardless of what it does to separate and cause chaos in the country. It is sickening that the occupations have been supported and encouraged by the big wigs in Canada's official opposition. They continue to spew misinformation because they know their followers will suck it all up, even if it causes them to become radicals that damage the country. Same thing as major US politicians hitching their wagon to Trumpism.

Or perhaps the sketchy split between City/Prov jurisdiction on Broadway?

Part of the bizarreness about the whole Coutts/Emerson situations is that if the 16 armed and armoured felons were in any other circumstances other than representing the nutbar fringe of the right-wing base of the two governments, not only would the premiers be screaming for federal government help, they would be also demanding that the police go in with guns blazing. The current responses are cowardly and hypocritical. I have been in protests at the Lege in the 70's against Candian involvement in Viet Nam and other issues, and there were lots of police around but they were given no reason to come at us, apart from some (in retrospect) fairly mild insults at them.

The lack of condemnation from our premier made the protesters feel like they were and are being given tacit support.  And with good reason.

CBC is reporting that 1200 Manitobans have donated to the protesters. It seems to me that if you fund a movement, you should also be financially liable for any damages the protesters do.

That's going too far, but I get why you feel that way. Frustrating.

I guess you are the front runner if you are the only announced candidate. I suspect that Mackay give Pollievre a pretty good run. Lots of PC support for Mackay still, and Charest is definitely a wild card. Lots of political savvy and he would do damage to the Liberals in Quebec. This leadership contest will depend on whether the small C majority of the membership actually shows up. It has been the Alberta show for a long time in the party and there are a lot of CPC members who are ready to take back the party.

That is not too far a stretch in tort law. If you provide say, a baseball bat to someone apt to do damage with that bat, you do bear culpability. In the US, which is not a perfect precedent, Remington firearms was forced to pay out $75 million to the victims and families of the Sandy Hook slaughter.

Weird. I thought there was someone touting him as the frontrunner not too long ago....

MacKay seems to support invoking the Emergencies Act. I can't imagine that'll sit well with the CPC who continues to pander to the Covidiot Clown Convoy.

Makes me wonder if MacKay even wants back into politics at this stage.

I suppose if you just ignore the responsibilities of the Prov and the Feds, you would come to this conclusion, Peter. You would think that all his time in Ottawa would have given him some clue as to how the powers are delegated but I guess that would have been too much. Pass the buck is the conservative motto.

For some, leadership is finding a parade and getting in front of it. Can't have your cake and eat it too, Petey.

RCMP have laid charges against a group of protesters arrested in connection with a blockade at the Coutts, Alta., border crossing as the 11 men and women are set to make their first court appearance Tuesday morning.

CBC News has obtained a list of the names and charges of the first 11 protesters to be arrested ahead of two more who were taken into custody later on Monday.

The on-and-off blockade of the normally busy border crossing by people opposed to COVID-19 health restrictions has lasted more than two weeks.

The arrests followed an RCMP raid of trailers in the early morning hours on Monday when officers seized guns, body armour, a large quantity of ammunition and high-capacity firearm magazines.

Most of the accused face charges of mischief to property over $5,000 and possession of a weapon.

Three also face an additional charge of conspiracy to murder with one man also charged with uttering threats.

Apparently head fundraiser Tamara Lich recently moved to MB. from Medicine Hat, watch for a short woman dragging around a huge sack of cash.  Trouble is surely on it's way.

The threat of the emergency measures act worked from the Sun today. https://winnipegsun.com/news/news-news/trudeaus-threats-hit-home-manitoba-border-blockade-to-end-wednesday

Protesters against vaccine mandates at two border crossings in Western Canada plan to leave after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government invoked emergency powers that could freeze their bank accounts and suspend their insurance.

A border crossing between Coutts, Alberta and Sweet Grass, Montana that had been closed Monday has partially reopened to traffic, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cpl. Gina Slaney said Tuesday by phone. Demonstrators have been at the border post since late January in a protest against vaccine mandates and Covid-19 restrictions.

“People are going home,” Slaney said, noting traffic is moving slowly as there are still vehicles on the road. “Vehicles can get through north and southbound lanes right now and it seems that vehicles are crossing the border.”

Demonstrators at a border crossing between Manitoba and North Dakota are also preparing to leave in unison Wednesday with a police escort, said Jake Klassen, a truck driver who joined the protest out of frustration he can not visit his daughter receiving palliative care unless he is fully vaccinated. People are worried the government will seize their property and protesters plan to leave in a “slow roll” tomorrow and reopen traffic, Klassen said by phone.

“A lot of grown men were crying,” Klassen said. “We didn’t think he was going to enact that. We could lose everything.”

The Manitoba border to the U.S. at Emerson was still closed as of 12:14 p.m. New York time, according to the website of Canada’s border agency.

“We accomplished something, I believe, but we didn’t accomplish what we went there to accomplish,” Klassen said.

Where were the cops? Oh yeah, no one thought to call them from the school. The one stupid turkey cop left. I think that was part of the plan.  Not like he'd have done anything, anyway.

A real shock to the ol' white privilege there. "I didn't think that there would be consequences to my actions"

No no no you silly man. It’s not freedom of choice that is being infringed upon. I demand freedom of consequences of the dumb ill informed choices I make on a pretty regular basis. You can’t force me to be a socially responsible citizen and accept the consequences of my morally and ethically corrupt with little sacrifice on my end to be socially responsible individual choice dear sir.
