This seems like an issue nationwide with many municipal law enforcement agencies, with bloated salaries, budgets, and overtime. Add to that the rampant corruption, bigotry, xenophobia, etc. and it's no wonder their reputation is in the shitter right now with their soft-as-baby-**** approach to these tantrum throwers across the country. LEOs are pretty much complicit at this point.

And the longer this garbage gets to go on, the more emboldened and entitled they're going to get. This needed to be snuffed out a week ago, IMO. We're entering potentially ugly and dangerous territory now.

The longer this goes on, the more the jackholes will take credit for the loosening of restrictions and the more likely they are to try it again.

They are still blocking the border in Alberta and kenney was only to happy to rush the dropping of restrictions... what are they actually protesting?

Governments and law enforcement agencies are in a pickle, since the BLM riots a few years back they can no longer easily use physical force against large groups of people to enforce laws and thus have become quite toothless in their powers of persuasion.  To attack or attempt to arrest the current protestors would only enflame and embolden them and draw more attention to their cause.  The eyes of the world are watching, so they have to be very careful how they react or the situation will just escalate.

The only viable solution I can see is hitting them with a financial crowbar that has real teeth, using current bylaws start ticketing their vehicles daily for the parking violations they are surely incurring.  If they choose to park 10-20-30 days they are going to run up huge fines, which if not paid could put ownership of these vehicles in jeopardy. They will probably rip the tickets up thinking they're never going to pay them, thus the government must ensure the courts enforce the fines to the full extent without plea or reduction. If a go fund me campaign wants to step up and pay the trucker's fines, wonderful, this punishes the group enabling the protestors and the money raised to do so can be re-directed to the local jurisdiction to pay for their extra security and service costs.

The results of this tactic may not have any effect on the current protestors as the punishment will be delayed by the courts, but the message that millions of dollars in fines will be levied and collected should be passed onto the next group that believes clogging the streets of a major city or a border crossing is a free-ride to freedom.

Canada’s unions have fought for generations for the right to protest. This is a cornerstone of our democratic system. But what we have witnessed on the streets of Canada’s capital over the past thirteen days is something different altogether. This is not a protest, it is an occupation by an angry mob trying to disguise itself as a peaceful protest

We have seen an occupation of city streets and parks, disrupting workers, businesses and residents. Frontline workers, from retail to health workers, have been bullied and harassed. We have witnessed noise attacks keeping families up at all hours. We have seen right-wing extremists spreading messages filled with racism and intolerance, flying the Nazi and Confederate flags, alongside other symbols of violence and hate. We have seen organizers not only demand the end of all public health rules, but also call for the overthrow of our democratically elected government.

The leaders of this occupation include people who espoused Islamophobic, Anti-Semitic and racist hate on social media, organizers of the notorious far-right yellow vest protests, and people spreading extreme conspiracy theories and calls for violence. This is an attack on all of Canada and not just the people of Ottawa.

Canada’s unions stand together, unequivocally opposed to these vile and hateful messages and condemn the ongoing harassment and violence against the people of Ottawa.

Nearly two weeks of this tantrum by human garbage. Enough is enough.

The stupidity has spread to New Zealand. Some 150 protesters who stated that their inspiration came from watching Canada tried to mob the legislature there, but were almost immediately arrest and carted off. In Behaviour Modification, the sooner and more vigorous a negative consequence follows an an act, the less likely that person is to repeat that act. Canada still has not learned this in dealing with the "truckers" protests.

I think all levels of government need to use whatever means they have available to come down as hard as they can. They are blocking #75 with trucks and farm equipment. Apparently some are parking there and leaving. Real truckers are complaining they can't get through to do their business. The RCMP SAY technically they can tow and charge but they don't want to inflame the situation. Totally wrong in my opinion . Hook on, tow them and charge the owners with the max you can and everything you can. Make them pay for lawyers to defend themselves , then we will see how many show up again. ......Hammers , I want hammers. Great big F...ing hammers .It's time.

Ohio Man Upset Over Canada’s Mask Mandates Sends Bomb Threat To Wrong Ottawa

The 20-year suspect called in a bomb threat so Canadian police would waste their time chasing it, but he called the wrong Ottawa — a village in Ohio.

OTTAWA, Ohio (AP) — A man who wanted to join the protests in Canada’s capital over mask mandates called in a bomb threat so police would waste their time chasing it, authorities said, but he called the wrong Ottawa — a village in Ohio.

The man, a 20-year-old from Akron, Ohio, called the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office twice Monday, said sheriff’s Capt. Brad Brubaker.

The first time he made a bomb threat, and then in a second call he said he had been shot, Brubaker said. That’s when the man found out he was talking with someone in Ohio.

“He wasn’t paying attention and just called the first number he found,” Brubaker told The Lima News. “He said he was mad about mask mandates.”

The sheriff’s office said it would ask the county prosecutor to consider charges against the man.

I'm hoping there is a ground swell of anger over this that forces governments to act. Mayor Bowman is calling for towing and clearing, Jagmeet Singh is calling for a crackdown, real truckers are demanding it be stopped.  Maybe it's time for the % 70 to be letting our various representatives we want it stopped both whatever means are necessary.

After publicly supporting the anti-vaccine mandate activists protesting in Ottawa in recent weeks, interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen said Thursday it's time for the convoy and other protesters blocking two major border crossings to end their demonstrations and go home.

Bergen, who has called the convoy a "passionate, patriotic and peaceful" group of Canadians concerned about freedom at a time of COVID restrictions, said the protesters have made their point to parliamentarians and the Conservative Party will take up their fight in the House of Commons instead.

In a message aimed at protesters, Bergen said "the time has come for you to take down the barricades, stop the disruptive action and come together.

"The economy you want to see reopened is hurting. You protested because you love your country and you want your freedoms back. That message has been heard."

Bergen said barricades and trucks should be removed for the sake of the economy and because "it's the right thing to do."

The demands of the the protesters are to overthrow the gov't and depose the leaders. What "fight" is MAGA Bergen going to take up, exactly?

Federal Conservatives have realized big business is not liking this and gotta tow that line. This has been condemned by a large number of large corporations on both sides of the border. Shame on them for encouraging and emboldening the occupations. Look where it has got them in a short amount of time. Third party status is more than these selfish, spineless grifters deserve. They could have prevented a lot of this from happening.

The PC government proposed Bill 57 to protect critical infrastructure and protests like this from happening. Definitely don't see any of the same sentiments being expressed now that the protestors look like them and support their party. This would(and has been in the past) be handled completely different by the government and the police force if it was an indigenous movement.

Wow 150 people?! Definitely a both sides argument requiring a coming together to share ideas and work together for a common purpose.

WINNIPEG - A counter-protest against the current protesters at the Manitoba Legislature is set to be held this weekend with organizers saying enough is enough.

Omar Kinnarath, an organizer with Defend Winnipeg, said they are wanting to show their frustration and displeasure with the anti-mandate protests that have taken over downtown.

"We're encouraging all Winnipeggers who've been affected by their current protests and who've suffered over the last two years through lockdowns and mandates, but have made the choice to protect their communities and serve their communities," said Kinnarath.
Winnipeg mayor calls truckers protest an 'unlawful occupation,' looks to police to end it
On top of countering the current protest, Kinnarath said they are standing up to the city and Winnipeg police for their inaction toward the protest.

"From the Winnipeg police, we would just want them to enforce the same laws and bylaws they enforce on us, in the matter of parking, in the matter of noise, in the matter of belligerency that is going on in the neighbourhood and to understand that what the City of Winnipeg and Winnipeg police are doing is a slap in the face to everybody who has sacrificed over the last two years."

Kinnarath wants to make clear that he is not against anybody's right to protest, but stated that if these protests were being organized by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) groups, the response would be very different.

"They are treating these protesters with kid gloves and they are not enforcing what they are supposed to enforce and they're not observing the contract with the citizens of the city."

He added if police and the city won't take the appropriate actions to end this protest, then the citizens of Winnipeg need to show up and express that they aren't happy.

"We want them to leave. That is the end goal… We want to show them they are outnumbered, they have upset us and they need to go."

The counter-protest is scheduled for Saturday on the north side of the Legislature steps on the other side of the barricade at 12 p.m.

He said they plan on being peaceful and don't want to have any interactions with those who are part of the other protest.  Kinnarath said they will continue to demonstrate until the protesters leave.

The organizers behind the Freedom Convoy group said in a statement Wednesday that they are asking counter-protest demonstrators to maintain a reasonable distance from the protest area, and they will likewise keep their distance from the counter-protest.

“We will treat counter-protesters respectfully, as being fellow Canadians entitled to express their opinions,” the statement reads.

In an email to CTV News, Winnipeg police said they are aware of the planned counter-protest and are monitoring the situation.
