WR Market is off to a Bonkers start.
25 year old Philpot who has played one full season (his rookie year) and had only one 100 yard game in the regular season (tho what a game) is the highest paid Canadian receiver.
31 year old Hatcher with an Achilles tear on his Injury record is the highest paid non-QB and his deal is almost entirely guaranteedWhere did you see terms for Hatcher?

The drop from Demski to the next Cdn receiver on the roster is miles

We should have our OC in place before Ott or Tor announces theirs. If we fail that, we are in big trouble. Early January should be the goal.
Talk to guys, conduct interviews, take the holidays to think about it, and make the offer right after. Then announce it by the week of the 9th.
Toronto announced theirs as Mike Miller already. He's going to be OC and call the plays.
Haven't announced the rest of the staff though if that is what you mean.

argos mike miller out of the running for our oc job, he’s the new hc for toronto
Looks like he will also be the Argos OC and play caller. Lots to take on as a new head coach that wasn't even the OC last year.

I truly am scared to see who our pre-january extensions are gonna be...it will definitely set the tone and narrative as to what 2026 is gonna look like
Sure be a shame to right out of the gate deflate any and all hope of change and moving on from our garbage players/coaches
Big money for Philpot
Per three-down league sources, the Delta, B.C. native has received a $100,000 signing bonus as part of $275,000 in hard money for 2026. He will earn $285,000 in hard money in 2027, which includes a $100,000 base salary guarantee.

Yes and no. His contract was expired but he had committed to return then changed his mind and left South.
He has signed a two year extension. He just had an NFL out clause.

Happens all the time with just about every team. That is why, for instance, Craig Dickenson had to inherit all of Chris Jones staff. Basically most HC contracts are 2-3 years, almost all coordinators are 2 years, and positional coaches go year to year. Almost every new coach nowadays is inheriting some of the last teams coaches because the management cap doesn`t allow everyone to be fired.
Now, because Hogan was a rookie OC it is possible that he signed for one however no coordinators will normally even talk to you unless you are offering a 2 year deal.
Didn't Chris Jones quit during his contract for a better job?

It was mentioned on the forum here during the season. I never questioned the validity of the posters statement as most coordinator, nearly all, run 2 years.
That doesn't make sense to me. OSH only had one year left. Why would any coordinator contract exceed the head coach in length.

To be fair this is what everyone said about the bombers after 2019 and 2021.
Bombers didn't have 45 free agents all wanting a raise after those years.

Ya Sask greatly benefited from a healthy Harris this year. That isn't the norm for him either.

He was back to back then, in 23, we began to see the cracks in Zach's armor resurface, along with his injuries. And the league was catching back up to us. His overall brutal QBing performances here in the playoffs had also just cost us a GC. 236 yards 0 tds 1 int vs 290 yards 3 tds 1 int. We can say no comparison between Faj and Zach, and on that night, it was true. Zach couldn't compare in the least to Faj. He won 2 rings and was in the race for several MOPs as well.
That was the ideal moment to move on from Zach. Even if he had a couple strong strong years left in him. He still had value; we could've gotten a very nice return for him and saved money going to brown.
I can't see many cases where the CFL team stayed with the old guy.
I'm not arguing that ZC over Brown was for sure the right call at the time.
What I disagree with is that it was a slam dunk that every team would have made the move to Brown. Zach had just thrown 33 TDs in 2023 and narrowly missed out being Winnipeg's MOP nominee. Was back to back MOP in 2021 and 2022.
If Dru had one more year on his contract and played like that in 2024 while Zach struggled I'd agree with you.

The Don too.
But even recently, Bc going with rourke and moving off vaj. Mtl going to alexander, Toronto going to the pest. Even calgary moving blm to give maier a shot.
It’s not often in modern times that teams have stuck with the old guy when a new guy steps up. Off the top of my head the last time i remember a groomed guy being given up on for the vet was franklin. Edmonton let franklin go in 17, then after 18 reilly left for a big pay day.
Even the riders gave up on zach for faj in 19.
Keeping zach over brown was the unconventional decision by modern cfl standards, old cfl standards, pretty much any you pick.I’m not even saying that keep Zach over Dru was the right decision but this is too much.
It was absolutely conventional to keep the QB who just won back to back MOPs over the back up that showed well.
Rourke was established in BC before VAJ got there.
Toronto and Montreal moved on from MBT and Faj not really comparable. -

Why wouldn't Dru count? He may be with Ottawa but Winnipeg absolutely groomed him - they just chose to stick with ZC. It's no different than how Arbuckle was touted as the next big Calgary QB for a couple seasons but he was behind a prime BLM so he was shipped off to (coincidentally) Ottawa. Calgary had Maier after that and they eventually felt confident enough to move on from BLM. Neither guy panned out as an elite starter but Calgary still spend a few seasons developing each of them.
Because we were talking about team's long term hopes at QB.
My point is that only a couple of teams right now have a QB that they groomed over the long-term.
Everyone else acquired a QB

basically their whole wr core lol. Im sure meyers will get an NFL look, but he'd be great to have. Aj allen too, that guy is hitting FA at the right time, and off a big year.
Ya Allen is going to get paid.
I've always liked/hated Emilus. He'd be a nice add.

Alexander has 4 seasons under his belt now - he was definitely groomed to take over.

You guys read that I said Alexander and Rourke?
I don't count Dru because the Redblack didn't groom him.

Elgersma is basically our long-term hope at QB. But I do mean long term. He needs to be on the AR and getting some work in practice, but I don't see him jumping into starting. QBs do start sooner than ever, but it would be insane if he even kept pace with the line Rourke set. Where he showed promise as a starter in 21 after being drafted in 19, then was pretty bad in a fraction of a season 24, then really finally cemented him self this year as an elite starter.
I will be very interested to see how Elgersma progresses, being a CIS kid who got a pre-season in the NFL, but didn't come up here for the end of year. If he had come here and gotten some grooming on the PR, maybe dressed late, that could've been a real career accelerator. But like Walters said, rookie TC is hard for a QB, and it is also the biggest opportunity for one. Unless he is our short yardage guy, I don't expect to see him take a regular season snap next year.
Like every team in the league the long-term hope at QB is the neg list.
Not a lot of teams are grooming back-ups to take over. That's why we're still watching Bo, Zach, Faj, and Harris play. Only recent success there is Alexander and Rouke. I guess Kelly too for one and bit seasons.

Quite the extensive list. I'm sure lots of guys will want to cash in on the championship success.
Good luck keeping the band all together.

Well it's a lot easier to fool yourself when you are first in the west and playing for the grey cup compared to 4th in the west and meekly bow out in the east semi-final.
Yup, making the grey cup is hard. Can see why they would delude themselves that everything was working. Especially when two of the loses were 1 play away from wins.
Kyle made a comment today that it is a lot easier to re-tool with 1 year contracts across the league. Maybe a sign we'll be players in free agency.

Walters presser:
Taylor Elgersma - sounds like he's waiting on an NFL futures contract for now. Window closes around Feb. Kyle expects if not then, then he will be expected up here.
2 minutes ago, Super Duper Negatron said:Walters calling this a turning point for a new era has me hopeful that running it back is out of the question this year.
Ya he's acknowledged that last year wasn't good enough. 10 wins, but didn't beat most teams with their top QBs. Didn't beat Trevor Harris, VA, Alexander.
Saying easier to do a quick fix with all the 1 year contracts across the league.

And you can maybe excuse them for playing collaros in 2022 with the bum ankle.... but leaving him in when he couldn't grip the ball in 2024... just inexcusable. And dressing 3 hurt receivers and a hurt bighill in 2023 is just inexcusable.
Ya 2022 is very comparable to what the Als did this year.
2023 was just a disgrace dressing all those injured players.
2024 should have pulled him but I think we were pretty screwed either way with who the back ups were and how TO's D was playing.

According to the bench boss, he and general manager Kyle Walters have barely talked about offseason plans for the team’s roster. He declined to disclose the contract status of any of his assistant coaches, leaving it unclear who will return.
Reading between the lines here, everyone won't be asked back.
If they were all under contract and wanted back, he would have said so.

He talks about it but there's no number in that article.
Doesn't want to be top 3, so all the means is less than $600K.
Big difference between $450K and $590K
