WildPath reacted to Booch in Bomber News: 2019 Off Season
SUCKS to see character gys and true pro's as well as great ballers have to be released, but so is the business and game that top teams need to do this, and once the worth is less than the value you are getting, decisions have to be made. He will definitely catch on somewhere and kudos to the Bombers for allowing him more time to do this before free agency.
Hopefully this is the evolution of our management team as well in being more Wallyesque and making the decisions as a players best before has started to show, as opposed to before where we held on far too long..wasting valuable SMS money that could be re-allocated elsewhere.
Cornerback is the easiest of the linebacking/defensive back spots to fill in the CFL with American talent as the learning curve is pretty much nil, so not too worried about us covering that position with a cheaper option and using the extra money we would have payed to Randle toward a JSK/Biggie/Jeffcoat

Yeah Randle will catch on with another squad undoubtedly. Really sucks about Mo, however. Dude was an absolute game changer

I
Id also like to see some form of compensation when you draft a Canadian in the first round and the player leaves as a free-agent after just 2 seasons. Depending on the quality of the guy there could be a compensation system similar to MLB.

WildPath reacted to USABomberfan in Streveler as our starter in 2019
I don't feel that's quite the right comparison. The Als management has been too much of a disaster which is why their QB problems have suffered continually over the years. We have a stable enough front office where I feel a QB change wouldn't totally disrupt the team.
Now, having said that, I would not move on from Nichols just yet. I know everyone says he's not a big enough play maker and can't get it done in a Ricky Ray manner. But elite QBs like that are tough to find, and I believe in Streveler, but don't think it's time to say start him from here on out yet.
Now, if Nichols is in a bad funk or has any worse injury problems over the course of this next season, then I'm all for starting the Streveler era. But only if that's indeed the case.
I think a better idea might be to hope Lapolice leaves for a HC job in Toronto and promote Buck Pierce into his job. The offense needs a play calling shakeup.

anyone who is a fan of football should be a fan of the CFL. I strongly believe that our rules are far superior to American rules.

WildPath reacted to kelownabomberfan in Bombers sign Geoff Gray to a 3 year deal
I can just hear the play-call next year when Peterman, Simonese and Woli are all catching passes for big yardage in a game...
Rod Black - "boy Duane the Bombers "Canadian Air Force" is putting on a show today!!!"
Duane Ford (stifling a groan and possibly vomit too): "Yeah Rod, the Bombers really have some talented Canadian receivers that they built through the draft. Kudos to GM Kyle Walters".
Rod Black: "none of them hold a candle to Samuel Giguere though. What a physical specimen!"
Duane Ford mumbling: "I can't, I just can't anymore..." (sounds of man vomiting violently)...
Rod Black: Well Duane down to the sidelines to Sara Orlesky where she has an update....Sara, any chance you can talk to Sam Giguere?

WildPath reacted to Mr Dee in CFL TRADE DEADLINE !!!
Nichols wasn’t the reason we lost 2 playoff games with him at QB;
2017 - 35 out of 48 attempts. 72.92% for 371 yards 3 TDs 0 ints.
2016 - 26 of 40 attempts 65% for 390 yards 2 TDs 0 ints
Those numbers are very good.

As a result goosen and chung were in the ear of everyone after every play. I love our oline

WildPath reacted to Booch in Bombers' Redemption Day - Game Day Thread: Alouettes
A pathetic thing about the game...watch Strevlers first run...Westerman that piece of **** was trying to twist Strev's knee/ankle on the ground ..Harris and Bryant had to pull him off and you can see Strev say something.
Things like that which makes me glad he went to the Montreal circus...no need for losers like that and he was basically owned all night be Bryant and Hardrick...and got 20 yds in penalties..we wont miss his national status one bit..Wally has that more than covered and his 3 TD's and counting are proof of that

Loved watching Streveler take the cheap hit....then throw the TD on the next play.....and he was really jacked about that....

WildPath reacted to SpeedFlex27 in Game Day Thread - League Opener: Eskies
On September 2, 1974, just hours after quarterback Don Jonas had guided the Blue Bombers to a last play win on Labour Day over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Taylor Field, he was traded to the Hamilton Tiger Cats for qb Chuck Ealey. He was informed of the trade after the plane carrying the Bombers back to Winnipeg had landed just before midnight. ( I was on that Air Canada flight in case you're interested). As Ealey wasn't ready to play their next game vs the Edmonton Eskimos, the Bombers started their rookie backup qb Dieter Brock, fresh out of college from Jacksonville State with zero pro playing experience.
Six days later on September 8, 1974 at Clarke Stadium, Dieter Brock was at the helm of the Blue Bombers for the very first time & for the only time that season as the Bombers starting qb . He got hammered as the Eskimos blitzed the crap out of their defense. Brock was either on his back or running for his life the entire game. His stats reflected how he was manhandled by the Esks defense. He attempted 27 passes, completed 12 for 176 yards, two interceptions, zero tds, a 44% completion average with a qb rating of 35.4. It would be almost an entire year before Brock would have another start against the Montreal Alouettes in September of 1975 at the Autostade after Ealey was traded to the Toronto Argonauts. Brock would then be the full time Bomber starter for the next 9 seasons.
I watched that game back in 1974. Brock was hurried, hit & harassed on nearly every passing play the entire game. He looked totally lost playing against that Eskimo defense that day. Little or nothing worked for Brock that game as the Bombers lost 24-2. I actually felt sorry for Brock as he just couldn't handle what the Eskimos defense did to him. It was a tough, tough day for Brock.
Obviously Brock learned from everything he went through that day as he became a CFL HOF qb with 34,830 yards passing, 210 touchdown passes & a 57% completion average during his career. He was the CFL's leading passer in 1978, 80, 81 & 84. On October 3, 1981 Brock attempted 48 passes, completed 41, 16 of those consecutively with an 87% completion average. He surgically dissected the Ottawa Rough Riders defense that day in one of the finest performances by a qb that I have ever seen. He was the CFL's West Division's All Star qb from 1980-82 & an All Canadian in 1980 & 81. He won the Jeff Nicklin Trophy as the West Division's MVP & was a back to back Schenley Award winner as the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 1980 & 81. Brock was elected to the Canadian Football Hall Of Fame in 1995.
Tburg, had you watched that game when Brock got his ass handed to him in 1974 you'd never have thought he'd have any kind of CFL career. Compared to Brock's first start, Streveler looked 10 times better. He didn't panic & showed a lot of poise. He threw 3 TD passes compared to zero for Brock. So, comparing Streveler to Brock in their first game as starting qbs out of college is more accurate than comparing Brock to Tom Wilkinson back in 1974 or Streveler to Mike Reilly last Thursday night.
I also seem to remember that the game in Edmonton 44 years ago was a cold, rainy day as well.

You know what really stood out to me, on the touchdown to Wolitarsky he gave the db a little fake like he was getting the ball out quick and made the guy bite leaving a wide open Wolitarsky in the endzone. That's good stuff right there and makes me think this Streveler kid knows how to play the position.

WildPath reacted to 17to85 in Around the League: 2018 Season
TSN has decided that they need some "personalities" among players to sell the league, plus this lets them kiss the asses of Rider fans which they inexplicably seem to think they need to do.
TSN has really gone downhill the last decade, just full on over hyping nonsense.

WildPath got a reaction from CodyT in How many threads do you want?
Yes! I love those special column-esque threads. Really adds to the site and makes it seems more like a community. Plus you know what you're getting when you click on them more or less, so if for some reason you don't like it, they are easy to ignore.
Is it possible to pin posts within a thread? Having a game week thread with the depth chart pinned would be great for example.
-
WildPath reacted to 17to85 in How many threads do you want?
I actually like more threads as opposed to less, what irks me is the people who create a thread for every mundane thought that pops into their head.
-
WildPath reacted to johnzo in How many threads do you want?
okay, I've complained about thread proliferation, and I was probably a little irritable about it, and I regret that.
This site is my primary source for Bomber news and analysis, so I like to read that stuff instead of the editorial / opinion stuff that I could get from Friesen if I wanted it. If I were God-Emperor of MBB, here's the thread creation rhythm I'd want:
Around The League 2018 Season -- all non-Bomber news for the whole season. (There was a super great week in review/preview thing we had last year, I can't remember who posted it, but they used the word balloon emoji a lot. Tweets and news bits with embedded reactions that were usually apt or funny. Would love to see that return. Was it called In Case You Missed It?)
Bomber Game Week / Bye Week Thread -- opens on Monday on game week, tracks all the Bomber news for that week (Streveler starting, etc)
Game Day Thread obvs
numerous free-for-all post-game analysis threads -- there are trusted names in this business, I know to look for the good ones.
Legit large developments (Jones fired, Nichols gets bionic legs, Dickenson appoints himself short-yardage QB for Stamps) get their own threads.
But really, I'm gonna chill out on this topic from here on out.
