As much as I'm not a fan of Snidely Brown, I also don't think Buck's delivery is very good for radio. His quasi-stutter is kind of distracting. He'd be wasted in broadcasting, much rather see him bring that gung-ho attitude to the dressing room in a coaching capacity. I think he and O'Shea would get along really well.

I wanted Burris here badly, but Ottawa did what they felt they needed to do.  They acquired two of the three best available qbs available as soon as they were available.   Glen?  He signed the contract he did and he has to live up to it.  That's pro sports.  Does anyone fault mack for signing Jyles and then pierce when he became available even tho Jyles looked upset at the press conference?

Management will do what they think is best for the team and onto fault getting 2 very good qbs to start the franchise off.  One only has to look at our record for the past 4 years to see how not having a reliably good qb starting each game turns out.

Well I don't assign all the blame for that to the runningbacks though. The o-line still has to not let guys get a hit on the rb in the backfield and the playcalling might not want to telegraph it so much. The Bombers always ran on 2nd and short and the defense always knew it was coming and always made the stop.

Football, maybe more than any other sport, is one where I don't mind the players asking for big money. The physical punishment and the brevity of careers means they need to get as much as they can while they can. Hopefully this all works out.

I think it is pretty naive to think you can judge the leadership impact a player has on a team based on what you see from the field (where you are watching from either your living room or so far away you can't hear what the player is saying) or post game interviews where 99% of the time players are simply giving canned responses.

Leadership is displayed in many different ways.  But you need to be with the team during practice, on the road, in the dressing room at half time, in the work out room to see who are the leaders on the team.

With the access (or lack of) that fans have to the team, they have to rely on what other players say or the media (who typically get their insight from what the players say or observations from being closer to the team).  At the end of the day it is only the coaches and players who know who the true leaders are on the team.

Yep, the gaps for the DL are all odd numbers for the most part.  You'll rarely see anyone line up head to head with a OL, and if they do 99% of the time it's on top of the centre.

When a DL lines up, you split the OL into inside and outside halves as you line up to understand where the gaps are.  After you've played DL for a couple years, you don't really think of it like that, but that's how you teach a grade 9 or 10 kid playing on the line for the first time.

There's also a lettering system that is used more generally for the entire defence.  A gaps are between centre and guard, B gaps between guard and tackle, C gap is off tackle.  In a gap control defense, a DL or LB will be accountable for each of those 6 gaps.

So a one-technique is on the inside half/shoulder of the guard, essentially the gap between the guard and centre.

Three-technique is outside half/shoulder of the guard, gap between guard and tackle.

Five-technique is outside half/shoulder of the tackle, gap outside tackle/between tackle and tight end (if one is in the formation).

Outside of that, every team has different terminology, some teams call their rush end a "seven" or a "wide-seven" meaning that they line him up basically one gap wider than the five-technique would line up in against a 5 man line.  It gets somewhat complicated because a lot of fronts widen out depending on the gaps created by the number of blockers the offence puts in the box, a five-technique might become a seven if the offence uses a tight end.  This is done mostly to combat the off tackle run, force everything inside, contain runs from getting outside.  The defensive gaps always change based on the offensive formation.

Those three are the basic categories that DL are divided into.  You'll hear it a lot during the NFL Draft stuff, "he'd be a first-round pick but teams don't think he's strong enough to play a one-technique in the NFL, and he's too slow to play three-technique in the NFL like he did in college."  Stuff like that.

On short yardage too, you want someone who can tough out yards, especially close to the goal line.  So many times last year we'd be 2nd-and-3, 2nd-and-2, we'd run against a stacked box and fail to convert.

Simply put a "three technique" defensive lineman is one who typically lines up on the outside shoulder of the guard ..

Yes .. there are others .. think of it like this:

Starting at the C - a zero (0) technique would be head up on the center with a 1 being on either outside shoulder.
At G you have 2i, 2, 3 (2i being inside shoulder, 2 head up and 3 outside shoulder)
At T you have 4i, 4, 5 (4i being inside shoulder, 4 head up and 5 outside shoulder)

In formations where a TE may be present you have a 6, 7, 8 and 9 technique .. and this breaks from the convention established but 6 is with a lineman lined up head up with the TE, 7 inside shoulder, 9 outside shoulder.  An 8 technique is used to describe a wide defensive end alignment (wider than the 9).

All right. Well then, here's to all the success in the world for Mr. Dahlquist. I think the bigger story here is that we actually hired a QB coach. Even if they had hired Troy Kopp or Russ Michna, at least it is somebody the QB's have on the sidelines to talk to rather than just walking off the field after yet another two and out to sit on the bench and wonder whether they'd be better off working in a Target in Oklahoma than being here in this foreign land with no support whatsoever.

2007 - 2nd in the league in receiving yards and touchdowns
2008 - missed 3 games, still went over 1000 yards and only finished 13th because it was one of the craziest passing years in recent memory
2009 - down year ... the forgotten year
2010 - 2nd in the league in receiving yards and touchdowns (1300+ yards)
2011 - 7th in the league in receiving yards, 3rd in touchdowns
2012 - 8th in the league in receiving yards

8th in the league or better in an 8 team league does NOT equate to a "perfect 3rd option"

Edwards was an elite receiver. One of the league's best for a period of 6-7 years. And considering who he had tossing him the rock for the majority of the time, it's even more impressive.

Well he did put up 1342 yards and 12 touchdowns in an absolutely horrid receiving corps in 2010.  Ralph, Hargreaves, TJH/Chris Davis/Jamayel Smith, and Adarius Bowman back when he couldn't catch.  Edwards was our only consistent threat and other teams knew it... and he still burned them every game.

Or maybe you shouldn't just talk out of your ass. You said there was a lack of experience, you're completely 100% wrong about that, it's just that the experience isn't great.

What you're doing here is trying to move the goal posts. You'd be better off just admitting that you were wrong on your comment and then move on.

The new jerseys are disgusting. They completely overthought the process and should've followed suit with the whole "old is new again" thing that has taken over recently.

Classic, simple, clean. That's how they should have went with it. The current product looks like what happens when a designer gets angry after you take his glue gun and bedazzling kit away. Too many lines, colored trims and other nonsense just for the sake of being new.

Home jersey - royal blue, white numbers, gold trim.
Away jersey - white, royal blue numbers, gold trim.
