I can't possibly understand someone being able to give out grades on offensive linemen they've never seen play. You can't expect anyone to believe you're able to form an accurate opinion on an offensive lineman from a television.

CIS scouting is still spotty. Lots of guys fall through the cracks. That's what makes the CFL combine so important. The level of competition varies so greatly between the CIS conferences, so getting all the best players together and competing in one-on-ones can totally change the perception of a player. It's not really about testing numbers for Quinn Smith, it's about how he came in and absolutely dominated every OL he faced.

I was thinking about that trade JBR and I don't think they would do it for number 2 strait up... we would probably have to throw in one of our 3rd's... but I'd still do it...

I still feel like we go with a DL like Gill or Smith if Lavertu goes to Ottawa.
 
Foucault is too risky... NFL interest scares me off.  If Goossen isn't good enough to start this year, then he shouldn't be our pick.  We need someone who can contribute to our ratio right away and IMO that means Evan Gill or Quinn Smith.

Can't see Winnipeg taking Combs. Lavertu/Gill/Goosen I think.

Guarantee Bombers don't take Coombs.

They could then suspend Glenn and not pay him.

Really crossing my fingers for Grigsby. Now that he appears to be serious about football I'd like to see what he can do on a Canadian field.

There's no advantage in trading out of the first round for more picks later in this draft.  A reasonable deal for the 5th pick would be like the 9th and 11th from Hamilton.
 
 
 
Definitely heard Walters say that an OL will be our pick at 2nd overall.  Will be interesting to see if they change their mind if/when Ottawa takes Lavertu.  We're getting kind of heavy on the tackle projects who probably end up playing guard because tackle ends up being an import spot (Pencer, Swiston, Neufeld, even Morley is one of those), our interior line stinks and all of those guys are having trouble playing inside.  Unless they think Foucault won't join that crew, I'd be reticent to make that pick.
 
I think I'd rather trade down and snag 2-3 guys (including one of the 2nd tier OL, a guy like Kyle Patterson or Jas Dhillon who might end up being a better CFL guard than a guy like Foucault), we could probably add a DL or LB/DB that could make our team this year.
 
Say we got offered 5 and 12 from BC, or 4 and 13 from Montreal, think it would have to be considered.

Yeah, I didn't go through the trouble of looking at everything.... I just took the safe route and said top 2....
 
I remember one play where Lulay got outside of him and he actually chased Lulay down from behind for either not much gain or for a TFL. That was when I realized he wasn't coming back in 2014

That's all I can say about Evan Gill.
 
If Ottawa takes Lavertu, and they are really sour on Goossen, maybe take Gill or trade down for a later first and a second if anyone is interested?  I really don't see Foucault fitting our needs for 2nd overall either.  He's a pipeline pick, and we already have some guys in the pipeline.
 
Coombs is one hell of a gamble for a team like the Bombers to take IMO.

While I could care less about stats... just once... I want a starting QB with more TD's than INTs....

McCune is 35 years old and is not the be all end all at MLB. Like RB, MLB is fairly easy to recruit for. If we could get him at a decent price and groom one of our young guys for the year McCune has left I the tank.... fantastic. But if we lose out on him I think your going to be the only one that's truly disappointed.
 
The guy I really want.... even More so than Kevin Glenn, is Ted Laurent. I sincerely hope that we over pay him to the point where he's the highest paid D-lineman in the league if that's what it takes to get him here. I do not want to have to start Neufeld or Swiston at Tackle.... What a disaster for a young up and coming QB IMO.
 
Either that or we have to sit someone like Johnny Sears or Chris Randle for the likes of Matt Bucknor or Donovan Alexander.... yuck

What you just described are a group of people who are paid to cover pro football in Winnipeg, but who really aren't fans of the game. You can tell when a reporter is actually a fan. He/she doesn't have to be a homer, but to be any good, they do have to understand and love the game. Growing up, outside of playing for the Bombers, a dream job for me was writing about them - and getting paid to do it! What an incredible job! Being paid to write about something I love so much. It wouldn't even be a job to me. I don't see anyone in the media in Winnipeg that truly loves the game of football, which is why they are going to spend as little time as possible in the stands, studying the players, and instead finding distractions on tablets and personal devices to get through their boredom. Give me a reporter who is also a fan, and try to be as unbiased as possible, and I'm happy as a Rider cheerleader looking for a date at a family gathering. I'm not sure why that's a lot to ask of our current professional writers in Winnipeg, because it wasn't that way in the past. Vince Leah and Jack Matheson are proof of that in spades. Those guys just plain loved the game, and it showed.

Ford to me is a guy who is better served as a change of pace guy than a full time RB. Just don't really like the speedster rbs. Give me the guy who can do the hard running inside. Someone who has a 5 or 6 yards per carry the honest way rather than having it bumped up by the real big one every now and then.

Nope.  I hated on him because he couldn't play as a capable member of our roster, whether or not he was getting reps as a receiver.  I knew he wouldn't be able to live up to his draft slot as a Blue Bomber, and I knew that by the time he was even an average player he'd be at the end of his lifespan as a Blue Bomber, so even if he ends up being a good player, he's not a good player for us.  It's pretty easy to tell the guys that are receivers in CIS, and the guys like Parker and Etienne who just blow by inferior athletes but don't have enough game to be useful pros.  To Etienne's credit, he has come a lot farther than Parker has in that respect, but he'll always lose when he has to battle to gain leverage on DB's.
 
Regardless of what Etienne does in Saskatchewan, just a horrendous draft pick for the Bombers.  At least it only cost us Jyles.

I was one of the people who was tired of Glenn and his inconsistency.  But looking back, I wish we had just kept him this whole time.  I never knew it could get this bad.

the key to our success this year will be making sure that our Willy is adequately protected. Ironically he was getting good protection from Labatte in Saskatchewan, who didn't seem to use protection.
