oh and I agree.. the problem is that when the other teams cast off's are just that.. guys tossed to the heap.   I don't mind stealing another team's project when they are unable to retain them.. but when it becomes a situation like we are seeing here with Crompton, Adams, Bridge (to an extent), Jackory Harris and that big backup in toronto...  where none of them are looking to be "the next big thing" and more likely to flame out, it becomes a "we gotta find our own guy!" situation again..    There isn't any real backup's out there or project backups (that I've noticed anyway) who are the next Reilly, Mitchell, Lulay or Durant..   I see a lot of wash outs like we have seen here for the last decade

Its tough to say where some of these QBs are at. I thought Adams showed reasonably well in his first few starts - i believing winning his first 3 - but has since been saddled behind QB's much more along then him and as such been relegated on the depth charts.  The reason why I think he'd be the odd man out in sask is because they just resigned Bridge to likely more then he was making,  just signed Collaros to a huge salary, and its been reported adams is on a higher contract then then a usual rookie one.  At some point they will need to trim some $ to get under the cap or to open up some funds for FA. I expect Adams to be one of them and Williams assuming the #3 spot

Yea but even a bridge, adams or whomever else that are "known" prospect options are not looking like diamonds in the rough to me at this point..   I'd rather go with a grizzled vet for another year or two and hope... that FINALLY... our QB hunters can locate a bona-fide prospect to groom and develop... or that Davis takes that next step.. either or..

I hate trying to take another team's prospect.. who they give up on.. and make him into a project..  at least with Davis, it seems to me anyway, that we just bid higher for his services

I have zero confidence in our scouts we can find anything worthwhile when it comes to QB prospects. Hell most of the QBs in the league playing were recruited from other teams. That entire rider stable outside of Williams was other teams finds, Collaros, Bridge, Adams...   in the CFL its never really about who you can find its about who you can sign and retain

  3. work out a trade.  Aside from a potential temporary upgrade in our #2 QB talent I don't see the upside in the bigger picture. Reminds me of when we had Glenn at QB2 2 years ago, great to have a vet back up just in case but did absolutely nothing for us going forward. Now granted Davis didn't show very well last year,  at least that gives us a better idea of what we have and can potentially start to turn in a new direction.

I'm not totally against the Durant signing. It was painfully obvious last year our back up situation was/is pretty bad but I'd have preferred grabbing a younger dude with potential then an aging vet with likely a decent contract size who is gonna be one and done with us.

I've been wondering all week why the **** anyone wants Bridge or Vernon Adams around here.... Of all the things... Christ, I'm just as happy with Davis, and I'm no huge Davis fan.

I originally typed out a post I ended up deleting but it was pretty much I'd take a hard pass on Durant or Glenn back when they were without a team and wait for Adams to be released in sask.  He's already been doing the short yardage stuff to replace Lefevour and has started and won games to be a potential QB to groom and be the future essentially replacing Davis as well.  I guess Durant kind of fill;s that roll too but is much more expensive, and much much older to been seen as any kind of future so he's a stop gap and come 2019 well be back in the same position

Not a lot of detail yet, but it looks like Collaros has restructured his deal with the Gappers...

Sounds like its $450-460K guaranteed, which is less then the reported $550K he was scheduled to make but that's still a ridiculous amount of cheddar being forked over toa QB coming off a garbage season.  Jones is channeling his 2017 Kavis Reed...

  6. you guys know your in the wrestling thread right?

Has anyone seen a show called The Wrestlers on Vice ? They played a few episodes last night, first one I caught was on Mexicans/Luchadores trying to break into the US market but also life in mexico as one goes...  1 part I thought was cool was in Tijuana they have a Lucha stoplight. Like the way we have pan handlers or people who wash your headlights,  but its a couple of guys who bust out ladders and chairs and start doing flips n beating each other during the red light for change.  guys ended up getting spotted by Konnan and put on whatever promotion he was running out there at the time (Crash Wrestling?).

The other episode was more about behind the curtain stuff and while most of it is common knowledge if you've followed wrestling for any significant amount of time, its still always neat seeing different POV and the odd ball thing picked up - like a wrestler after his match wanted to go sell his merch but the promoter was pretty adamant that as long as their were matches still going on/coming up it was not a good idea to potentially pull audience away from viewing those matches by offering them something else to do if they weren't necessarily interested in the match(es) to be.  Makes sense but maybe things you don't really think about from a fans pov

  7. gotta say I'm not really a fan of Auska. Maybe its an asian thing but she's pretty much the female Nakamura in everything for her off-center wobbly movement to her "strong style" power strikes.  I much prefer the title picture staying between natalya and charlotte as they are IMO the best to female wrestlers the WWE has.  I understand giving it to Rousey just cuz of who she is... would make for an interesting mixed tag match down the road between Lesnar/Rousey vs Shinsuke/Auska if they ever wanted this angle

  8. whats funny is if Rich hadn't pointed out longhorn was migs, I could have easily pitted about a dozen posters on RF as the culprit. They all post with the exact same style and exude the same arrogant ignorance.   I'm starting to believe Migs is actually several constant posters over there. But then again,  Rotor got outed for creating "Bobthetalking dog" account upon the reboot of their site where he was constantly praising and liking his own posts.... nothing should really surprise me anymore over yonder.  I still get a chuckle that I haven't posted there in like over 2 months yet my name still gets run thru the mud now and then.

Water damage is never minor. Moisture assessment, mold assessment, dehumidifiers, et. al. It’s actually worse than smoke damage which at least doesn’t create mold and can mostly be seen and assessed on the surface.

For the record, I have been involved in a flood restoration project - I hope Mosaic has the insurance to cover this one.

As for Winnipeg critics - you are not wrong about that.

I think both fan bases have legit reason to critique their respective stadiums for what they cost and how many issues there have been.  I don't think anyone has been foolish enough to believe any place would be flawless,  but I do find it funny how many rider fans bashed the bombers and IGF for their issues, meanwhile all season have had their own complaints (along with other teams re: air conditioning for example) and some are even specifically signing up over here just to try and defend their stadium...

"Hey Bombers....Nice lemon!" said the rider fan cruisin by in a souped up K-car with the busted headlight and missing tailpipe.

In my day,  the kids used to call it Karma

  10. I saw on tv yesterday they are turning Corner Gas into an animated series. TBH I'm not a fan of the show and I can't imagine it being a cartoon is going to suddenly breathe new life into it, making it a good show, or suddenly appeal to a younger audience...

Whoa another CFL insider! Every article says they are still assessing damages but you already know it was 15k! Man these rider fans really have their fingers on the pulse.

Ever since they introduced the telephone to sask back in 2003 every sister/cousin-wife became an insider because they know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy.   I wouldn't say every rider fan is an insider themselves tho as the concept of the telephone is still confusing to them and misunderstood

  12. Always wondered why/how Luke just put it upon himself to somehow spy on Bens dreams as he notices he's struggling with some internal conflict. If that was common place when there is concern with a padawan you would think Yoda/Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon Jinn/Mace Windu or anyone else who came across a young angry and scared Anakin all those years ago would have said oooh snap we got a future darth vader up in here, lets light saber his ass now.

Didn't like the comedy, too much too often,  felt like they were trying to make a marvel SW. And I think force floating Leia in space was my least fav part of the movie,  really started to lose interest after that point

  13. probably wont be a crisp, stand - outish sound like that of an acoustic guitar but the idea is just for something to lug around sans amp and still be loud enough to contribute to the vibe.  It's kind of like bongos,  they can sound really good together with a guitar but it'll get drowned out unless it has a mic near by on it... well i suppose like your Cello idea you can always get those long, multi-foot long bongos (or out right symphony timpani drums and bang the sweet piss out of them till people acknowledge you really are playing too :D

Roseanne was so ahead of it's time. Remarkable that this program, that dealt with real issues in a half-hour sitcom format, thrived for so long.

Rosanne Barr is a real piece of work but they created a masterpiece with this show.

I thought the show was good for the time when alternative prime time shows included Dinosaurs... But i wouldnt say masterpiece just a relatable show especially if you grew up in the middle-lower class family dealing a lot with financial instability.  In 10-20 years they will reboot hannah montana and my kids will call it a master piece too lol all nostalgic

Not surprised.  He and Sara Gilbert are close and she's an exec producer.  Interesting that the characters of their children are named Harris and Mark.  I guess that means they will definitely write Mark out as having died.  Mark and David were brothers on the show, right?

yes they were brothers. when Mark and Becky started dating at some point David kind of tags a long with Mark and thats how he meets Darlene if I'm not mistaken

  16. Finally watched Punisher before Netflix account expired. Gotta say it was by far the best of the Marvel Netflix shows I've watched so far, DD season one being a close 2nd.  I'm surprised (but at the same time not really) how gruesome Marvel got with the Punisher but I guess you can't really have it any other way. Frank Castle was one of the first real anti-heroes and his whole story revolves around death and violence so it was fitting.  His (Bernthal) on screen chemistry with Micro (Moss-Bachrach) was probably the best I've seen between 2 people in any of these series so far imo.

I'll start by pointing out that Dakota was in the finals this year against St. Pauls. One could argue its a program on the rise. Then I'll mini rant and state that St. Pauls has an unfair advantage since they draw from all over the city and can offer scholarships. They basically recruit and stack their sports teams.

Yeah Dakota was in the final but I don't think they are a perennial powerhouse.  I think there is something happening though in regards to students playing for other schools.  I believe there was a kid last year that attended a school that didn't offer football and wanted to join a team from a different school, but wasn't allowed because he wasn't an enrolled student of said school.  So they've been fighting it behind the scenes or something and could gain some traction sooner then later.  If that is the case, I'd probably encourage my kid to go to glenlawn then get his choice of where he wanted to play unless your limited to proximity - so like Dakota or Churchill in this case

  18. https://www.bluebombers.com/2017/11/28/coach-fogg-micd-up/

Kinda cool seeing some players doing some stuff out in the community. Was reading some of the FB comments apparently Osh's son plays (or played) for St. Paul, so I wonder if he has any influence on getting players to guest coach? Also read Teague Sherman was involved with the Oak Park Raiders for a while while he was with the blue and gold.  My son's going to be in high school next year and we've talked about him playing football in the high school league. Right now it seems like he may go to Dakota (lives in st vital) but I was hoping for a more stronger football program. Anyone follow high school football more closely to have any insight?  Are there any other bombers that do some work with other schools?

Added.  I guess with the rumors on Franklin going there (outbidding SSK), it was my guess that Ray might retire and Toronto would be JF's highest bidder.  Ray will be 39 by the end of next season.   Burris suffered almost no injuries even at his old age, yet even he saw the writing that said when it was time to go, it was time to go.  Ray on the other hand got relatively fortunate this last season that he missed little time and was able to stay in there for TO.  Given what happened over the last few years though, I wouldn't be betting that him playing an entire season is just going to happen again.  Now just seems like the right time for Ricky to say football is done, time to spend time with family and other things.

Even if they land Franklin (which I don't think will happen TBH - if Jones aint 100% sold on Bridge, there's little chance he will be outbid IMHO) Franklin, Fajardo and ? heading into 2018 might be a little risky for the argos.  That is very suspect depth behind a very unproven QB. If it's not Ray then there will be another vet insurance brought in, maybe Durant at a vastly reduced salary, maybe Glenn... I just don't see any team going 100% in on Franklin without some sort of back up plan that can settle some sort of emergency fire in case he doesn't live up to the expectations

  20. I think Calgary will part ways with McDaniel and Messem and will dip into FA a little more than usual this year.

TO might face the same situation as Ottawa did last year and having won the cup many players will be looking to cash in and could potentially lose a lot of players in FA, other then some of the players that came from Montreal it will be interesting to see how much loyalty there is for Popp and Trestman among the other players.

I see no reason why Winnipeg doesn't stay the course as it usual annual offseason,  resign a bulk of our own,  grab a few FA and fail to address some glaring holes like MLB... hope i'm wrong but sometimes I wonder if Walters/Osh prioritize other areas more than what we see as deficiencies on the team IE: by retooling the DL with better pass rushers we can mask the short comings of a weak MLB so they spend more time focusing on the DL then finding an actual MLB..etc

Sask will continue to scrap heap and bring in 100+ players because with the riders bottom line and Jones getting  carte blanche he's like a fat guy at the buffet table wearin his eatin pants.

Edmonton will be interesting do they ride reilly for a few more years or is their beating at the WF the wake up call that the future might be now and Franklin is more valuable long run. I really don't think they keep both but if they do Sunderland is a lot better GM then I thought

BC will be the montreal of 2018. Tons of turn over including upstairs and new guy(s) will likely have to ax a lot of pricey aging vets.  I really hope the bombers can pick up one of the receivers that potentially shake loose

Ottawa will be active in FA this year. I think they are close to being a decent team but they lost too much after winning the cup. a few key cogs could go a long way.

Hamilton will likely stay much the same as they ended. With June Jones now the full HC (no more intern tag) I'm sure they would like to see more of what he can do with Masoli heading into 2018. Collaros is pretty much done in Ham, I expect him to be in montreal or maybe even BC

Montreal - Kavis Reed is still there. basement dwellers once again.
