Time for some tough love on....

Seems to me that the Bombers don't practice this scenario. if they did they'd have been ready for it. Willy couldn't hear? Fans were excited. Asking them or even EXPECTING them to shut up is unrealistic. This never should have happened. Inside the 5 for gosh sake's just call a run on the LOS. Have a signal system along with the play call in the helmet mic.

We had that QB draw play called before the refs iced us because of their incompetence.  Since we did not have a timeout and also a rookie QB, it seems like the play did not get changed...  it had a chance to work the first time, not the second time - Hammie was waiting.

The tough love has to be on:

1. MB's refusal to move the pocket or get creative with protect schemes - our max protects and double TEs are stale and actually result in more pressure on Willy, not less.  Start using two backs, everyone else has adapted except for MB and Mike Gibson

2. Etch needs to realize that his schemes are used by a lot of teams now but that this focus on a specific 'type' of player is a dated approach.  Laurent and Gaydosh are giants that also have speed and agility.  Plus, I have yet to see any of our DL drop into coverage as was alluded to in the pre-season.

3. Maybe Pat Tracey is just not good enough.

I agree with numbers 2 & 3. I don't think Tracy is good enough but at the same time where the hell is our GM & why didn't he bring in a long snapper? Wild's been gone since August. Etch needs to go. He is a terrible DC & with the restrictions he puts on the type of players he wants up front & his schemes not only are they overmatched size wise but they are vulnerable to the big play & we see it every game now. I thought Creehan was bad as a DC but Etch may be worse.

ISO's credibility meet flaming ball of fire.

I thought they tried to bring in Remple but he wanted to play at home. I think they also reached out to Cory Hucklack but he turned them down.

Hadn't heard that but makes sense.

The real question... and it has been an issue for some time is why are we not training another OL as a long snapper.  Wouldn't Swiston, Hinse or (especially) Goossen make sense?  Hinse has exp at Centre already.

I know OC and LS are different positions - but you're still kind of reading and reacting to the play, getting game experience...

I think our offense until the last 6 or 7 games kept us in games. We were giving up copious amounts of yards on the ground & still winning because we were scoring points. Once we stopped scoring our defense didn't do well. Those games against the Riders where Messam killed us, remember them? So, to say that our D was keeping us in games early in the season is ridiculous. It was offense winning those games & not defense. Without Gable, the Ti Cat run game isn't anything special. Yeah, I have a bias towards Etch. I think he's lousy.

Defense has kept us in games far more times this season than they've contributed to losses.  And the personnel on defense is very far from perfect as well, even within the confines of what Etcheverry prefers.

You have to be pretty biased against Etcheverry to claim otherwise.

I would argue that they have yet to come through when the game is on the line, at least I can't recall that scenario happening this season?

That's why I hate 'bend don't break' defences...  I didn't want Etch or Marshall... but they are still better than Creehan's 'scream until you cry' defence.

Guys can either long snap or they can't. It's a skill that takes years to perfect to play at the pro level. Randy Chevrier is a very good long snapper specialist sitting on the Stamps PR. He's 35 & his days as a player are slipping away. I can't believe he wouldn't want to get back on the field & would rather be a PR for the Stamps.

First game in BC? At Montreal?  At Hamilton?  First home game against Saskatchewan?  At home against Montreal?  Banjo Bowl, continually getting the ball back to our offense in the 2nd half?  Yesterday, again getting the ball back to our offense and holding Hamilton to field goals?

Short memory?

Yeah the defense has actually been quite effective for the most part this season. I dunno why people don't want to admit it. They haven't been a dominant D that can win games on their own, but it's rare that they have actually completely failed. Given this team chances to win most of the games.

The biggest disappointment for this team has been the special teams by far. Expected a lot better out of them but they've made a lot of huge mistakes and basically cost the team several games.

4th in offense, 8th in defense, the stats speak for themselves.

Cause the offense hasn't given up any points themselves this season, and the defense and special teams sure haven't scored any.

6th in offence, 5th in defense for yardage.  The stats speak for themselves?

The stadium was dead quiet and theguys were lined up with 5 seconds on the play clock. At two seconds some fans yelled hike the damn ball and they didn't until it was well past the buzzer. Poor execution on Willy no excuses.

I don't think Willy has a bunch of time , but he has enough time for a few reads. My issue is why not Kevin Glenn style quick hitters for 7-8 yards?

When they did it for the last two series he had more time in the pocket. Just bad play calling and bad awareness on Willy for not throwing it away at times.

sounds like he couldn't hear due to a headset issue, not because the crowd was making noise which they really weren't. It's one of those situations where who really knows what actually happened but based on what has been said, not sure why they couldn't inform the refs of the headset issues. Thought if the headset wasn't working properly then you are allowed to change helmets or something, seen other teams do it a few times this year. Hard to say how much time was left when he didn't hear the call too, if its under 5 seconds or even close to that, not really much time to call an audible is there.

An article in this morning's Freep confirms that Willy's helmet-speakers were out for the last bit of the game- don't know how long.
