I think the number of free agents (especially players who finished their first contracts) that leave here & the lack of impact free agent signings from other teams the previous few season tells a story of the real unhappiness & morale on the team, in general. Players are now leaving even if they're offered the money they want to stay. Gone are the days when we could reup as many veterans as we want.

I think part of the problem is Walter's approach to things.  We've heard from multiple players that they heard nothing or next to nothing from Walters when it came to a new deal.  Recently, Tyrell Ford said that their negotiations were pretty slow and Walters didn't come with an acceptable offer until it was too late.  FTR, I'm fine with Ford moving on but it makes me wonder how many other players we may have lost in a similar fashion?

He was open to re-signing with the Bombers in the off-season, but the 27-year-old from Niagara Falls, Ont., didn’t receive the offer he was hoping for until the day before the free agency window opened. At that point, he figured he might as well test the free-agency waters, and the Elks stepped up by offering him a two-year deal worth $230,000 in hard money for this season.

If Winnipeg made their final offer earlier, would things have turned out differently?

“I would say, yeah,” Ford admitted. “I think it was maybe a week or two before when they kind of came in and slowly worked their way up. They kind of knew where my head was at, I kinda told them what I wanted and they kind of didn’t get to that point until the end.”

So what that is, is Walters heard the ask from their camp and moved on. Simple as that. If walters decides a guy is going to get too much money he seems to just go on to the next. Players of course get all butthurt because they figure everyone should be kissing their feet.

I don't think it was a case of Walters moving on since he got to their asking price eventually.  He was willing to pay - just dragged his feet on it.

Yeah we've heard it before but usually he came with a lowball offer (like Jeffcoat) but this is the first time I've seen it publicly that he was willing to give a player what they wanted but just waited to long.  Really strange off-season, imo.  Letting guys walk then over-paying for PR players (Mitchell) & giving out unwarranted extensions (ZC). I don't get what the plan was.

there apparently was no plan....looks like a wait it out and our guys will come back....and we will run it back again with the same ol same ol...and when some of the same ol same ol moved on for whatever reason....we were just scrap heaping at that point....the only significant guy we signed is languishing on the 1 game IR so nobody steals him off our PR...Or he just flat out say fack right off of we tried to PR him....,  and Logan who has been hurt

Pretty apparent we didnt make a legit offer to any free agent who could have helped us....status quo we go again cause when you look 4..5 yrs back...we had success

So you said acceptable offer... that to me doesn't necessarily mean asking price, it means a starting point in his opinion.

Cause I remember listening to Walters year end presser last year and he basically went through a bunch of guys (including Ford) that he said we're going to be getting paid and he was doubtful they'd be able to bring them back.

What we have going on here now is a disconnect between coach and GM. We got a gm willing to move on from players and a coach resistant to playing new guys. Something will give eventually

I used acceptable because Ford said he would have taken the offer had it come earlier. He said they knew what he wanted but didn't get there until the very end so yeah it seems they eventually were willing to meet his asking price (according to Ford anyway).

I do agree with the HC/GM disconnect though.  I can't imagine our scouting team is very happy about busting their asses for nothing either.

If Schoen’s knee never fully heals, that’ll be one of the greatest questions of all time, what would have his production been if he played a fully healthy career.

that doesn't mean Walters was being lazy though. They could have had money in place for other players...maybe some worked out by upping their offer...or maybe some didn't and they weren't able to sign some players. And when those priorities settled, they had enough money to make an offer to Ford that he would accept.

"Hey we're not going to be able to get to Fords #'s unless priorities A-B and C don't happen." Turns out A-B and C don't happen, and they make an offer to Ford. Which turns out to be too late. This or any number of other scenarios could have happened.

So there was a plan...priorities shifted and they could move forward with offering a field side corner way more than he should be making.

This idea there was "no plan" is idiotic.

All of them. Crazy to suggest that MOS should be fired. Absolutely nuts. I can't even believe that people on this forum are suggesting MOS should be fired. Can he improve some flaws...absolutely but this guys has coached us to 5 straight Grey Cups. I can't believe the entitlement some fans around here are showing. Good gravy. I'm not suggesting MOS is the perfect coach, but the smear campaign against him is baffling. Our team hasn't been this competitive and strong since the 80's, FIred? Really?

Top end for a DB is $140-150k, anything above is a huge waste of limited SMS.

No this week the coach is playing the wrong new guy.

Maybe the disconnect is with the OC and offensive coaching staff.  Mitchell was signed before they were.

Well it's also a case of a hold over from the year before, so not really new new....

And to completely speculate maybe Mitchell isn't behaving to the expectations of the OC and his crew but they hope he does sooner than later.

One different play outcome at the essential end of two of those games would have made it 4 out of five wins. The play that did drive me crazy was Prukop's pick in '22 when the Bombers were driving toward a potentially decisive score. Breaks decide many big games, although I will concede that last year was a mess from the personnel decisions on.

Last year I honestly put that almost solely on Buck. They knew what didn't work against the argos and decided to try it anyway.

WHY DO you think Penn left...there reasons for everything....Walter's needs to step up as Boss...Or Miller step in and make it known how heirachy works...Osh seems to have too much say in things...and not in a good way

every coach runs their cousre...and their ideologies start to wane and not work....hence nobody coaches forever....really good ones dapt and evolve...Osh hasnt adapted or evolved at all

So say we have another up and down yr...get in playoffs and flop again...due to a combo of poor roster makeup....playing injured guys cause you had no trust in, nor did you allow any to play/develop and even evaluate to see if they even deserve to be here....and more dumb in game decisions? Keeping a guy on again with those 4 straight failures for same reasons...after 12 yr....time for change....like I said...He not the only worthy coach out there

And how is it a smear campaign when it's just presenting whats occurred...facts...and the obvious???...

He's been outcoached and outmatched in 3 straight championship games...so obviously there are other more than capable coaches out there

100 percent, every conversation keeps on circling back to O’Shea and ends up being regurgitating the same thing over and over again..

Need to add a daily post limit per person.

Curious to see how Randolph and Vanterpool look at tackle if Stan can't go. Curious to see if we add another DE to the roster and how that impacts our dline.

I think every one of those games was winnable, with the exception of last year, and that is because our QB got injured and our backup was out all season basically. Can anyone really say that we weren't one or two plays away from winning the other two Grey Cups? I don't think you can. I mean Fajardo throws a punt on 2nd and 25 and somehow completes it......that summed up our 4th Q in a game we dominated for 55 minutes.

Honestly, it has left the realm of football discussion already. Forest fire smoke? MOS did it.

Who said lazy?  Maybe dragging out negotiations was part of his strategy.  Like you said, there could be many reasons but we have no idea what they are/were.

Also never said there was no plan - I said I don't get what his plan was & I'm not referring just to Ford. either.  I'm good with letting almost any DB go if his salary is going to prevent us from re-signing or signing players who could help in other areas.  There were a number of moves (or lack thereof) that I didn't get.
