I'm starting this thread as a side discussion of all things Corona Virus related. I understand that this is going to be discussed in almost all other topic threads but we could collect news and other items here. 

 

At work, many conferences have been cancelled.

NBA - Suspended.

NHL - About to be suspended. 

NCAA March Madness - Playing - no crowd. 

 

Political Rallies have been cancelled. 

Travel bans. 

 

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks tested positive. They're in Australia where testing is available. If they were in the US, they wouldn't have been tested.

Well, when your rules are inconsistent and make no sense, people look at them and decide to ignore them. It is really hard to convince someone to follow rule A (no visitors at home!), when rule B (but you can meet with friends on a crowded patio!) directly contradicts it. It gives you no credibility.

It is like parents giving warnings of punishments that never come. Eventually the kids ignore them. (guilty...parenting is hard)

As was said on the radio today, hard to take the threats about enforcing fines and restrictions seriously when 500 people show up at the Forks for an anti-mask rally and only 20 people get ticketed.

The following additional public health order restrictions will be in effect on Sunday, May 9 at 12:01 a.m. for a period of three weeks:
•    outdoor gatherings that include people from multiple households are limited to a maximum of five people;
•   restaurants, bars and patios will close to in-person dining but can still provide take-out and delivery services;
•    gyms and fitness centres will close;

Well.. apparently I was wrong about going to remote learning. Why in the hell would we have to an emergency to prepare other teachers for remote learning and completely change our afternoon plans? We rushed to have things ready to go for other teachers for Monday. What a waste of time for all of us.

There are some reports ( CTV )  saying  it's still being debated. They may do it Monday.

I suspect they realized it can’t be done in a day and will be announced next week. I hope as someone said Elementary stays in person and all other go remote. Although I. Not really convinced it does anything. Make this kids remote and they will gather and socialize more...

I do elementary and we were preparing plans. Perhaps that doesn't mean much, but that's a pretty high number of staff's time that would be wasted if they don't switch. I guess our stuff could always be used for an eventual switch to remote, but I don't understand why there would be an emergency rush then. We could do a much better job preparing given more time.

I think you were bang on. They're giving the system an extra week to adjust and will likely tell us on Monday or Tuesday about the pending change.

Like Alberta who never closed K-6 schools until today, Kenney knows his base wouldn't be happy as school is only convenient babysitting for a lot of parents. So, elementary schools were the last to be closed. Palliser is afraid of a revolt if schools close.

Ship vaccine from the US? What the hell am I missing? We have added entire communities and just recently dropped the age multiple times. Just add teachers to the list already. Jesus.

I am a teacher and also immunocompromised. I got my first shot this week. It was neither being a teacher, nor having an autoimmune disease that qualified me to be vaccinated. My autoimmune condition puts me in the same risk group for death/hospitalization as those over 70. Haven't had any bad reactions other than some shoulder pain. With my second dose I'll have to be especially careful as adverse reactions are a lot more common for people with my condition. Even though I am at heightened risk of adverse reactions, I am 100% looking forward to a second shot.

WINNIPEG -- Provincial health officials have lowered the age of eligibility again for COVID-19 vaccines, after dropping the age to 40 on Friday.

All Manitobans, aged 35 and older, can now receive a COVID-19 vaccination. For First Nations the age eligibility remains at 18-years-old and up.

 

Appointments booked for the wife and myself. Such a relief this is actually happening.

I am curious to see how long they wait based on trying to get the first does into the heel draggers. Guess it will be dependent on supply.
