Around the League: 2019 Off Season

Okay, so the off season officially begins now that the Grey Cup is over. Lots of topics for discussion in the months to come with the Bombers & the League. A new CBA needs to be negotiated sooner rather than later.  Will there be an eventual agreement or a lockout? How much will the salary cap go up? Randy Ambrosie is on record that wants the cap to significantly go up so that is a positive.  Will Bo Levi Mitchell sign with an NFL or perhaps another CFL team? What about Mike Reilly & Trevor Harris who are also free agents? There's a new start up league called the  AAFL & there are legit concerns that it'll draw star CFL players away or hamper free agent signings with CFL teams. Coaching changes in BC & Toronto. The continuing evolving story of the expansion Halifax Schooners & possible exhibition games in Mexico.

My mom went into the bomber store years ago to buy me a jersey and Moreno was in there.  She met him and said he was a good looking fella so she bought me his jersey.  So pretty much I got his jersey

  • I hate that ******* ginger with a fiery passion for all he did to us over the years..............but............I respect the hell out of him as a CFL QB.

REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed national defensive lineman Zack Evans to a four-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday, keeping him with the club through 2022.

In his return to Saskatchewan, Evans played in all 18 games in 2018. He collected 15 defensive tackles, one sack, one touchdown and one forced fumble. He is a veteran of seven seasons after originally entering the CFL with the Riders as a territorial junior in 2012.

Considering the circumstances under which Chamblin left the Riders, I cannot see him as a credible candidate for Argo head coach. I suspect they were just filling out their dance card.

Touche' Spuds. Now lets see how that turns out. When Chamblin was HC of the Riders, all was well when the team was winning, but his rants in the locker room were apparently epic and his public one not much less so. But he will be in Toronto, so that sort of thing would probably never be noticed.

Did I just hear that the Riders have added Josh Gordon to their neg list?

EDIT: I did!

Roughriders place WR Gordon on neg. list

I seriously wonder if John Murphy didn't get a big 'severance' package and is still scouting for them under the table...

Gordon can’t play in the CFL unless he is reinstated by the NFL...so basically no chance he ends up in Canada.

And he just said he was taking time-off from football to focus on mental health issues. Not that he's going to be allowed to play any time soon, anyhow.

Feel bad for Gordon he could play in the CFL with no issues if he had not been suspended in the NFL. All his suspension have been pot related.

Pot usage is not all that innocuous for some. Heavy, continued intake can trigger psychoses, overwrite DNA in sperm and even cause lactation in males due to suppression of testosterone. Those who use THC to self-medicate anxiety or bipolar disorder (etc), typically do not get better from the presenting issue.

Those who use THC to self-medicate anxiety or bipolar disorder (etc), typically do not get better from the presenting issue. - depends on the dose and type of consumption method.

Riders receiver Jordan Williams-Lambert obtains NFL option

After the Wilder brouhaha last season I didn't think this was supposed to happen.

The CFL needs to get rid of the one year contracts if they’re allowing the option window to be reinstated.

Disagree:

We already know that cannabis lowers sperm count, but new research suggests that the drug actually causes changes to the sperm itself — which might have implications for the health of a potential baby.

For a study published today in the journal Epigenetics, scientists at Duke University compared the sperm of two groups of rats: those who had been given tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, and those who had not. Then they compared the sperm of 24 human men who smoked marijuana weekly versus a control group who used marijuana no more than 10 times in their life and not at all in the past half-year. In both cases — rats and humans — marijuana changed how genes work in sperm cells.

THC is not cannabis. It is a single aspect of it. Which is why synthetic forms of THC have a long list of side effects that aren't always associated with whole plant treatments. Doing experiments with only THC is misleading at best and often flat out false, as the other cannabinoids as well as the terpenes present in the plant can alter the effects of THC as well as the ability of THC to properly bind to the cannabinoid cell receptors. The study your quoting did not take other lifestyle choices into consideration. Diet, exercise, careers etc etc etc. It may have also let the participants source their own cannabis, which brings on a whole other list of problems. This is unfortunately extremely common in cannabis studies, maybe false isn't the right word, but these studies are often done with a result already in mind. IE - "Cannabis lowers sperm count" Instead of "Does cannabis lower sperm count?"

Also, the original post talked about altering the DNA of sperm, not lowering the overall sperm count.

I really shouldn't discount these types of studies, and I'm certainly not trying to point out that cannabis is a miracle etc etc. But the vast majority of the studies done on it are trying to find out why its bad for us, not just conducting proper research and letting the results speak for themselves. Again, nothing against the people who did this study...these types of results are legitimately the only way you can continue to get funding to study cannabis in most countries. It's a fairly broken system.. The legalization of cannabis in Canada will bring about some very accurate results for better or worse.

Maybe time away means avoiding jail time. These guys just piss (or smoke) away their careers.

By no means am I demonizing marijuana- in fact the evidence shows that it is likely less harmful, physically and socially than alcohol. But, for some 3-5% of users the effects are deleterious. One of the major problems in the debate is that the proponents cite research that is based on an era where the active ingredient was about 2-4% whereas the hybrid strains now have tested as high as 21%. There is no free lunch. There are benefits for some in using marijuana derivatives and there will be negative side effects for others.
