Free Agency Frenzy

If there is anything that deserves a thread of its own its this Tuesdays looming bidding wars.

Lets start with 3Down Nation's top 5 negotiations for our Blue:

http://3downnation.com/2017/02/12/top-five-free-agent-targets-bombers/

1. DL Jabar Westerman, B.C. Lions

2. LB Winston Venable, Montreal Alouettes

3. RB Kienan Lafrance, Ottawa Redblacks

4. DL Drake Nevis, Hamilton Tiger-Cats

5. DB Jovon Johnson, Montreal Alouettes

I like the idea of what a 2nd Westerman would do for our D_line for years to come. Getting Venerable could mean a road to the Grey Cup so I would break the bank with whatever we have left and spend it on those two.

  • Things didn't go his way, so he's losing his mind. They've made a decision to go to a more traditional middle linebacker instead of two WIL specialists, so Bass is gone. He's a great player, not

  • Chris Jones is.       Sorry, I thought that said moron.

  • @MiltStegallTSN I've been a free agent since 2009 and @sskroughriders just offered me a contract! Told me they're trying to sign all remaining #FreeAgents   That made me chuckle....woul

Good pick-up for Montreal. Makes losing Carter much easier. Certainly less drama with Jackson.

If their signings work out, Montreal is poised to be threat in the east this year...

a threat to be the first Eastern team to finish the season above .500 since 2015 anyway...

Anyone think that Kohlert will find a new home?  He fell out of favour last year when he forgot that he was playing football and not volleyball.

Someone will sign him and get him at a good price.

You'd think by now Bomber fans would have seen enough examples to know that a bad year doesn't always equal career is over.

"Word is the Bombers are high on Kyle Knox, who played in 11 games as a rookie in 2016. But if Kyle Walters wants some veteran help, one of Damaso Munoz, Cory Greenwood and Glenn Love would provide an immediate upgrade. Again, like with many teams, it’s a question of affordability."

So do you think Walters will have somme actual comprtioon for Knox at MLB when camp opens? Iy's been a while since we had a genuine rookie MLB candidate with a real chance here ...

Montreal will be first in the east this year.  I thought it when they picked up DD and I think it even harder now

Glenn Love would be a great pickup.

Greenwood if we want to start an NI... with Waggoner, Hurl and Greenwood you'd think we could manage it... I don't know if I want to go down that road though.

Jackson got 220k a year for 2 years according to Gary Lawless

Almost a sure thing this spells the end of SJ Green for the Alouettes

Receiver contracts are getting out of control! Anybody know what we paid Adams?

$1.

We were using a Price is Right strategy at the time.

Meh. Would have been nice, but we'll survive. Put some money aside in case Chris Matthews happens to be cut free.

At some point teams need to do a reality check.....roll up their sleeves and go scout some players. Younger, less expensive and hungry.

Sheppard may surprise some people this year after having a year of already working with Nichols and Lapos system

With all these marvellous FA acquisitions by the Riders, I'm sure we can expect another 12-6 record prediction from Rod Pederson.

12-6...bah..that was the rebuild prediction. This year he likely goes 14-4 or 15-3. Probably calls them unstoppable.

12-6?? He knows Jones is trying to use the Pats as a model. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 18-0 prediction.

How are they convincing all these Canadian defensive tackles to sign there? That's 5 now.

maybe we are saving our cash for Laing?

Reckon everyone must love Kavis.......and money. Everyone loves money.

I thought last year, the biggest problem was no pressure from D line, no run stop.

Looks like the two new guys will fix those problems to a large degree. Although I thought that Cummings was going to do that. and some of the other guys that were supposed to. the Alabama D Lineman, and Justin Cole. It Just didn't pan out. Really hope these two will fill the bill. Third year of not enough pass rush no run stop. As we all know, turn overs saved the defence, and those amazing plays..... like it, but wouldn't we rather not count on that stuff?

Lets hope we get that fixed this year, or not much will change.

We're pretty much done, man. We have big money invested in a lot of guys and while you're seeing teams sign guys now (coughMontrealcough) what we haven't seen yet is the fallout. We're in a position where we don't have to cut any bait right now either.

Look at the big ticket names on our team: Nichols, Harris, Bryant, Chungh, Adams, Dressler, Smith, Westerman, Nevis, Okpalaugo, Wild, Leggett, Medlock ... we've got plenty of money invested and they're going to want to retain some flexibility. I suppose Laing is possible, but I'm guessing we're done with the big name tickets for now and if we're not, you have to assume someone is going out the door.

What I have gotten a kick out of these past 2 or so years is the fans of a 3-15, 5-13 team criticizing the moves of other teams.

I guess if you can make someone else look bad it takes some shine off of your own situation.
