To neutralize, like we did with Ovechkin, match Meyers on Getzlaf.

Sad to see him go. He was one of my favourites when I first started following the Bombers. Seems like a great guy too.

Arjei Franklin paid tribute to him on his Facebook page:

I wanted to take a moment to share a little bit about a great teammate and better friend Romby Bryant. I was blessed to be teammates with Romby for 5 straight years across two teams. I can tell you this. Romby is one of the hardest working athletes I have ever met. He is also one of the most talented players I have come across. But what is most important is that he is as real as they come. A straight shooter and loyal friend.

Ill never forget the time Romby decided on his own that he was going volunteer at a soup kitchen. He didn't ask for a jersey to wear. There were no cameras our interviews. All he wanted to do was volunteer his time as any other person would. I know that Romby would never share these types of things as he is too humble. But I felt it was important that people know that this guy has a genuine heart to help others.

If you look through this guys Facebook page you won't see one football pic. Only pics of his family. What is most important to him is not the glamour of being a football star but simply the relationships in his life.

So as a former teammate and life long friend I want to say congratulations on an unbelievable career.
    Salute!

I hate the Leafs with every fiber of my being. I would rather live through a 100-year Roughrider Grey Cup run than a single Leaf Stanley Cup.
I feel bad for Peter Horachek, though, because Shanahan hand-picked him to drive the Leafs straight into the iceberg. I was hoping he'd coax a late run out of the team, make them lose some of their McDavid raffle tickets and weaken MLSE's resolve to burn the place down.
    (based on http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/kelly-shanahans-scorched-earth-leafs-plan-wins-mlse-support/article22938348/)
At least I'll always have this stat: the Leafs finished winless on the road in 2015 in games where both the opposing goalies didn't hurt themselves.

I was at the Bombers Fan Forum last night and here’s a quick summary of the highlights:

Biggest thing I took away was when O’Shea was asked what the biggest thing he learned last year he said that he needs to trust his gut more and that last year he took too long to make some decisions.  This was my biggest problem with O’Shea last year and it looks like he has learned.  I suspect he was referring to staying loyal to Grigsby and Kuale too  long when they were hurting the team. I asked Walters about Morley and whether he will be in training camp this year.  Walters said he’s not going to talk about a players future in a public forum.  That tells me Morley is gone. I also asked Walters about the linebackers.  He agreed with me that we’re a little thin on experience this year and that the free agent camps will be relied upon to produce some starting linebackers this season.  O’Shea said there will be an open competition at every position this year, except for QB; Drew Willy is the starter. Walters and O’Shea said they are putting a lot more emphasis on the running game this year, and while he didn’t want to give up too many details to the Riders (first game of the year) he suggested we’d have a thunder and lightning combo at RB this year.  Said fans will pleased with the run game this year.  Walters and O’Shea said they talk a lot about bringing a Grey Cup to the fans in Winnipeg.     I asked O'Shea about the new rules and he said they definitely favour the offense, but he understand why as fans want to see more offense.  Agreed that he wouldn't be surprised to see 55-45 scores in CFL games this year.

Oh it's white for sure.  I didn't want to comment before the math was certain, but now it's white all the way.

I was a season ticket holder from 1973 until they left.  (now sitting on the waiting list).  I've been craving a good whiteout for 2 decades , and now it's going to happen!

Which reminds me what my wife once asked me while watching one of the few games she's watched, 'Why don't they just put a huge sumo wrestler in net, there would be no place to shoot'.
    My response was, 'you can't . . . wait a sec?'

You're missing a few parts imo. Championship teams also need veteran presence, leadership and grit. Players like Buff and Ladd (I know you didn't say Ladd) are not a nice to haves for this team. They are a big part of our identity, they are a big piece to what we would like to accomplish in the next 3-5 years. They are two special players that would be very difficult to replace. I appreciate cap restrictions may dictate this not being possible but if it comes down to where do we push this pile of money, I know what I'd do. Obviously some of us will have different perspectives when it comes to determining what's a luxury for this team and what are necessities when you really get into the discussion of how this team is being built. Arm chairing gm'ing is fun when there's no pressure :-)

I feel bad for Postma; solid teammate, and a solid dude (from what I'm told.. my GF volunteered with him at Siloam Mission last fall).
What I couldn't help think about....
Postma doesn't play for 2 months, no peep out of him, comes back, plays 23 mins and is praised for his solid play.
Meanwhile, Pavs doesn't play for a couple weeks, comes back, plays well but blows the game (STL, obvs), and afterwards it's all about how he hasn't played in awhile, he was screened etc.

Methinks, the younger Postma could teach Pavelec a thing or two about being a pro...
...that said, not a bash-Pavelec post... he played well on Saturday. Do we think Maurice goes back to him vs SJ?

Actually with games I've been able to watch on TV this year, I find the Jets a very entertaining team to watch with the intensity they bring to the game. Lots of back and forth action.
A couple of weeks ago I was watching a Jet game with my brother-in-law and he remarked he felt he was watching a basketball game with so much back and forth.
Their neutral zone work  can't rely on hooking/holding/picking like years previous so it takes more skill to shut down the opposition.
Whether the Jets make the playoffs this year or not, most games we've been in most games which makes it that more entertaining to watch although doesn't help much with anxiety.

Keep Buff long term and continue in what we are trying to build here. He's a core player. He's a dominant utility player that very few teams (SJ, Det) have at their disposal. He's a big reason why we are in the hunt. I'd like to have that for a few more years.

It's almost nauseating following this race day-by-day this year. This week we've lost once and had 2 unlucky nights on the out of town scoreboard....boom!...playoff chances down almost 20% back to essentially a coin flip.
Someone said on 1290 yesterday, and I concur, I'd almost rather be asleep from now until April...wake me up then and let me know if we're in. My heart can't take it...
But hey, happy Friday y'all! "Big game tomorrow"...

I don't understand this logic. If they were periphery players or players with loads of skill but with no or negative lockerroom presence than sure trade them away. But they're not.
You trade away Ladd and Buff, you trade away a big part of our identity, a big part of what we are trying to build here. Hard to replace the leadership, the tone, the intangibles these two players bring on and off the ice. Even with the remote chance you could find guys of equal identity and talent, why make a lateral move like that? Age? The age argument doesn't hold on its own either. Sure their older, but we trade for a younger guy and by the time he's at Ladd's and Buff's level (see above), with salary cap, he's more than likely gone anyways. You don't just build around age, you build around your core.
