HardCoreBlue reacted to Mr Dee in Odds and Sods - XGame 1 - Montreal at Winnipeg
Live..at the game. Good to be in the stadium once again!
1st team against 1st team - must say Glenn looked pretty sharp and their specific play calling got a few receivers wide open. We ran, at first, a pretty Bellefeuille kind of offense and I thought we went deep too much to start. Drew Willy neither looked here nor there, but he did survive his first hit. 1st quarter belonged to Montreal because they moved the ball better.
Once the subs starting coming in, the bombers took over. 13-3 Montreal - with 1st teams - the rest of the game? 33-0 bombers.
Simply put, our backups crushed their backups.
Led by the 3rd and 4th string QBs, the bombers steadily moved the ball and made watching the game a pleasure. Davis and Bennett got a good feel for playing a CFL game following a game plan that gave them alternate times to go in and show what could do. And show they did. Playing against second stringers was easier, no doubt, but it was good practice in live action. Brian who? Marve who?
Major announcement - we now have a running attack. Harris, Anderson and Flanders. When Anderson came in, it seemed to be a perfect complement to Harris. Anderson with his darting and cutting. But make no mistake, for the remaining time in the game, and all of the 4th quarter, it was Flanders field. He made it real tough to ignore giving him a spot somewhere with the bombers.
Play of the game - screen play to Harris. It had all the right ingredients for a great play - except for the penalty.
Play of the game, part 2 - that lovely loft pass by Bennett to Williams that resulted in a TD. Pass - very good, reception better. We don't always see plays like that.
Individually speaking -
Castillo - just when you think he's going (missed his 1st attempt) he strikes for 4 non-too-easy FGs
Adrian Hubbard - the DE opposite Westerman? Could be..
Trent Corney - not a bad start for a rookie. He's going to be exciting.
Tony Burnett - was all over the field
Ryan Smith - going to be a good one for us.
McDuffie - exciting and quick
Addison Richards is real.
Ian Wild - what can I say? He flies all over the field and never seems to give up on a play.
Vertung? Don't know if he did enough.
Hardrick - can't say too much on his actual play, but he's a teamer! Lots of animation and energy!
Teague Sherman - was involved, in a good way.
Khalil Bass - thank goodness.
Westerman - guy doesn't quit.
At first glance -
Bomber O-line had its moments, specifically staying relevant when Keeping went down, and with the subs playing, including Intzandt.
The players who had spot duty, such as Waggoner, Butcher, Loffler and such, represented themselves well.
Plug and play never looked so good.

HardCoreBlue reacted to do or die in Odds and Sods - XGame 1 - Montreal at Winnipeg
Bob Irving was talking about the "nice crowd"
......not sure what he was looking at, there..
Bomber unis looked like winners, from the get go...
A. Harris first carry....7 yds and a round of applause...
Medlock's first FG attempt good from 48....more applause..
Westerman's motor still going......and going....
Beautiful TD run on screen by Harris.....
...called back on penalty to Smith..
S. J. Green still gives us problems....
Glenn completed a lot of throws in his stint.....
....as in short, quick release, timing pattern stuff....
At this rate.....Green may catch 120 balls this year.....
Bruce johnson having a busy evening....good and bad....
Too many missed tackles and Als YAC....in first half...
Bombers try WR screens and reverses......
....but blocking on those....still not a Bomber specialty....
Couple of nice punts from Medlock.....
....and one brutal looking shank job....
Jeff Keeping goes down, .... not looking too good....
Tim Flanders getting a lot of work at RB....
....and making the most of it....100 or so total yds...
Glenn leaves....along with the Montreal O.....for the evening..
Dom Davis...pretty good looking athlete at QB.....
....needs to work on pocket presence.....
Castillo the Captain tonight..... 4-5 on long FGs
None of the Blue kick returners made a move tonight....
...at least, not fumbling and stumbling like Montreal's...
...although at R ..McDuffie made some things happen....
...till he let a pass go right through his hands for goal line INT
Corney has some pretty good speed on the edge, at DE......
Refereeing was in mid-season form......
...as far as the ole ticky tack interference calls......
QB Bennett had a play action TD run.....
....and a TD pass to Fred Williams in limited snaps....
Some pretty good pass rush on the Als second liners...
...from a lot of different guys in front 7 D.....
Tony Burnett got a lot of snaps at LB...
Appears to be more overall team speed in this years edition.....
Appears to be some more Canadian depth, this year....
The first game...especially the 2nd half... is always a grab bag....
This could be the start of a new era....
..or simply the start of a new gin bottle.....
...will get to the bottom of it, either way.....

HardCoreBlue reacted to Pete Catan's Ghost in Coach's Show
Here's the paraphrased version of the one hour OSH/Irving interview. You may find a few nuggets... if you squint.
The Offense
This team’s offense is coming together as fast as any he’s worked with. OSH credits the mini-camp for some of this early progress.
Playing time for QBs
Looking to play Willy enough to see what’s what. “If he looks sharp, then we will move down the line…It’s a matter of balance”.
OSH says he listens to all players as to the amount that they feel they need to play during the pre-season (?!?). He discusses his perspective vs. theirs when determining playing time. Keeping players healthy & fresh during training camp is paramount.
Injury update: Kyle Knox
Kyle Knox saw the Doctor and will need further tests. “I hope that he will bounce back quickly. He’s a great guy and athlete”.
Macho Harris
Macho very quickly has shown what he’s got; “he is a super likeable leader with tons of experience and is very versatile”. We see no problem in playing him where we need him. He’s a good compliment to Mo Leggett…possibly a good bet for Safety.
Randle & Bucknor
Randle needs to shake off the rust and “will get back to where he was”.
“Bucknor has had a very nice camp and worked his tail off during the off season”.
ACL Injuries & Anderson
Carlos Anderson was brought back. OSH did not divulge who made the first call, player or team, but in discussion with staff, OSH says they needed to work him out because he was so close to making the team last year. “Once he made some cuts in camp I wondered if he was wearing a brace and he wasn’t. He is a dynamic, dynamic player”.
Kick Returning
Carlos A, Veltung, and McDuffie are candidates along with Fred Williams (interesting!).
Feoli G. - “looks in great shape and is as sure handed as anyone in camp”. “I’d rather not have Dressler return kicks but I’ll put him in for spot duty”. Dressler has also been holding for Medlock.
Pascal Lochard
“He’s missed the last few days, but he makes his cut at a nice late point in pressing the run. He impressed us in interviews and is good on STs”.
Addison R
“His efforts are there and he’s improving steadily. I see very steady improvement. We weren’t sure he would be ready for camp. He says that this is the best he’s felt in years.”
The Hogs in General;
Chung & Goossen Specifically
“Very talented players and competition have been brought in to push the vets. Any woes that people talk about don’t rest on their shoulders”.
“Better now than they were their first day in camp this year. They’re both a pleasure to watch. Matthias is becoming a true centre that embraces the role.
“Sukh rolled out on a play today and was hauling it down the field… looking for someone to lay into. It was a pleasure to watch on film”..
“The OLine will be a big reason we will win games this year and are not our Achilles Heal”.
Import Receiver: Thomas Mayo
“He’s an explosive player that has become the most consistent in camp. It’s up to the games for them all to show what they can do, but they all have their moments”.
11 Days between Pre-Season and Regular Season
“I love it. It will allow the guys to come out flying for that first game”.
First Pro Game Jitters
“I remember taping my wrists so tight that my hands were purple. I know I must have been nervous until my first whack…It’s a great game”.

HardCoreBlue reacted to Noeller in First Ring of Honour member announced
So, Ed Tait talks to MOS about playing against Walby:
"I was standing around a pile and I just get blasted from behind...I get splashed by Bluto. He then helps me up and says, 'Sorry, a guy pushed me.' I watched film..He just ran up, knocked me down and jumped on me. But... I love the guy. He's fun to be around."

Who the **** is Brian Kelly lol

HardCoreBlue reacted to johnzo in Who do you prefer? Smith or Dressler?
Let's see, do I want the perennial 1000-yard man who plays like Brian Kelly and who has been basically the best receiver in the CFL for the past six or so years (give or take an S.J. Green)
Or do I want the young up-and-comer who hit nearly 1000 yards with Brett Smith as his QB of record for most of the season and who plays like a young Brian Kelly? And who is going to be a great one for years and years?
Trick question. I will take them both!
Watching old games the other day, was shocked at how Brian Kelly resembled Dressler ... a little howdy-doody looking dude who does nothing but get open and catch TDs.

HardCoreBlue got a reaction from SPuDS in Who do you prefer? Smith or Dressler?
I think you answered your own question. Bang on. He'll bring it, and we will reap it's benefits
Something hard to measure with statistics in terms of impact impact but most know how bad we need it on this team especially as you noted on the offensive side of ball and I'd add in the dressing room and practices/team functions.
I like Smith, glad he's ours, but hands down Dressler.

HardCoreBlue got a reaction from IC Khari in Around The League Off Season Discussion
Thing is, he made the decision to blow the team up and in some cases, imo, deleting quality 'square plugs' he already had in place. So, if I was a fan of this team, which thank God I'm not (whatever God you may or may not believe in), then yes I would expect it is up to him to patch certain areas together in an expedient way because he already had it in place but chose his own pegs. Okay I'm going to stop posting about Chris Jones.
Go Blue!

I think it's more appropriate to say NHL coaching experience isn't mandatory. I would suggest having NHL coaching experience is relevant to consider when looking for a suitable head coach of a professional hockey team..

HardCoreBlue reacted to kelownabomberfan in Patrik Laine
My Finnish buddy says the consensus in Finland is that Matthews goes first as Toronto needs a center more than a winger. Which is why Laine just fell into our laps. There will be folk tales sung around camp fires for centuries talking about how Winnipeg somehow moved up to second overall in the 2016 draft. Just unbelievable.

Yea maybe probably I don't know.
Bigger picture though for me is Jones and his approach in how he does things, from coaching, to management, to players, to fans, to media etc.
Time will tell obviously but, with all the respect I can muster, not a guy I want anywhere near my Bombers.
Yea I know, for some 'who cares. as a long as he's a winner'. Whatever, you can have him.

HardCoreBlue got a reaction from Tracker in Around The League Off Season Discussion
I think Jones Ego is going to blow him and this team up.
He's putting his own mark on this team and letting his ego get in the way of retaining quality players from the old regime without his stamp of approval. Yea sure Durant but my guess he would have pulled the pin on him as well but cupboard is empty on available QB's.

HardCoreBlue got a reaction from Mr Dee in Glen Johnson upset fans, media are so hard on refs
In some cases yes however saying hasn't helped at all I would disagree. It's actually reversed calls (like fumbles, no catch) appropriately.

HardCoreBlue got a reaction from Mr Dee in Glen Johnson upset fans, media are so hard on refs
Me too but good luck with that. Name me a professional sport that applies every 'black and white' rule 100% properly while the game is being played.
I'm not defending the silly calls, incompetent calls that ought to be straightforward. I'm incensed like the rest of us when it costs our team.
However, what I'm settled down and thinking logically, I'm suggesting, and I think a few other posters here are as well, is a continuous improvement process versus perfect or nothing. No one who thinks this through is suggesting being flexible with accountability, it's more of always working toward that gold standard of performance. The one's that can't are usually, not always, but usually left behind.
One of things that tells me the CFL wants to improve officiating is a few CFL referees from last year were relegated/let go as well as their partnership with NFL referees.
