We had you down and out when it was 17-3. We had all the momentum, I thought we had it. Lack of killer instinct again from Jones and we let you up off the floor. Once Nichols got going I knew we would lose. Dressler was so wide open that seeing it on tv doesn't do it justice. I was closer to him from the stands than the guy covering him. Embarrassment. Tough one to take for the fans. I mean the real ones that don't miss a game and support this team.

Yup, and in the third quarter it was much the same for the Bombers- one more easy/quick TD and all the fight would have gone out of the Riders.

Well guys. Congrats on the win. We cheered our asses off and came up short. I'm really disappointed but am not going to cry about it.

We got the two points but I am not sure that either side has that much to be proud of. It could easily have been a blowout either way had the executions of the offences been sharper.

Yup, a lot of "trust the plan" folks are doing the walk of shame this morning.  So desperate to win again they skipped the courtship with Jones got drunk and  jumped in the hot tub with him. Now they're starting to remember what happened next.

You could empathize with fan desperation but  the sudden realization that Glenn isnt a winner is just willful ignorance

Actually, Glenn didn't play all that badly compared to Nichols. Glenn got really rocked a few times and still played well enough to win but for Crapigna.

  4. I am not upset by the Bomber slow start to the game, but am ticked at the fourth quarter thinking of the Bombers where the offence went into a shell and the defence started playing soft in the secondary. We got away with it against the flaccid Riders but we are gonna have to be a lot sharper next game.

PS: I think the honeymoon is over for Chris Jones and Co. in Regina. I haven't seen that kind of vitriol since the Mike Kelly- Sleepy Joe days for the Bombers.

Seriously though, I feel confident about the game.  Heck, in the face of all logic I didn't even bat an eye when the Riders scored the back breaking return TD in last year's Labour Day Classic.  Knew the boys would come through...  Even after losing the last 11 under every circumstance possible.

This isn't the penny pinching joke of a franchise that we all hated to love while making the playoffs ONCE in seven years before last.

The Bombers are legit and the Riders are not.  Genuinely not an obligatory "let's bash the Riders!" statement.  We Bomber fans are waaaay  too familiar with that situation.

Any given Sunday, or Canada Day, and all that, but these Bombers are here to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And the gum is in short supply, ya dig? B)

This isn't the Grey  Cup, but there ought to be no excuse for a lackluster performance by either side. This is a statement game, even if it is very early in the year.

Loffler just has to nail him as he goes out of bounds and he will go completely mental like last year when Loffler hit him.  15 yard roughing penalty early in the game = Carter totally eradicated as a threat.

Agreed that we have to hit Glenn and/or Carter early and often to take them out of the game, but let's keep these legal.

Same in the Als/Esks game, Durant had no time to work.  Esks have a ferocious pass rush this year and Odell is looking good.

Montreal's O-line has been revamped and even if the players are good, they will need time to gel. I'm not sure if Montreal has the talent there, or the coaching.

I got a feeling that Chris Jones will cheat on the ratio and just eat the fine whatever the amount is.

Maybe the league ought to institute a rule that if a team does not honour the ratio rule in a game, if the offending team wins, they lose the win, and if they violate the rule and still lose, they get slapped with a hefty fine or have to play the next game with one fewer import player on the field.

Now these predictions make more sense. From 3downnation:

    Winnipeg (0-0) at Saskatchewan (0-1)
    Saturday, July 1, 9 p.m. EST

Quarterback Matt Nichols leads Winnipeg into its season opener. The six-foot-two, 220-pound Nichols threw for a career-best 3,666 yards with 18 TDs against nine interceptions in leading the Bombers to an 11-7 record last year and their first playoff berth since 2011. Trouble is, much is expected from Nichols and Co. this season. Saskatchewan is coming off a close loss to Montreal, a game that saw veteran Kevin Glenn complete 31-of-44 passes for 298 yards with a TD and interception.

Dunk: New Mosaic will be electric – all the pressure is on the Riders. BOMBERS
Hodge: New building or not, the Riders’ roster has too many holes. BOMBERS
Gasson: Riders want to set the tone in their new home. RIDERS.
Edwards:  The Riders will be fired up for this one. Is that a good thing? BOMBERS
Smith: If Saskatchewan only wins one game all year, it will be this one. RIDERS
Filoso: Winnipeg spoils Mosaic’s grand opening BOMBERS
Busby: Bombers are heading into a hornet’s nest. RIDERS
    Totals: Bombers 4 Riders 3

So.... we now know that at least three of these are deep into their cups.

11-7 says we must have been doing a few things right.  When I read stuff like this, it's like we were 6-12 last year.  We were a good team in 2016, and I think we're better than we were at this time last year.  Did the other teams in the west improve as much? We will see.

I think it would be more accurate to say that we became a good team last year after we deep-sixed Willy and upgraded the O-line, and none too soon, either. I would be very happy if we trounced the Riders on Saturday, but I will not be desolate if we lose. It is still the first game of the year for the Big Blue and those are often weird. A good effort is mandatory, though and if our secondary gets torched again, I will not be happy. And, Mr. Hurl- eyes are on you.

Yeah a lot of waiting for the ball and having to get it standing still.

Liking this pick-up....traits of a dependable possession and yard stick moving National...with ability for a big play. Just what we need

I realize that the video clips were selective, but when I watched them, I saw only one instance where Wolitarsky ran over someone. A nasty attitude goes a long way in this league.

  12. Has anyone else picked up on how much of an honour this is for both teams, to take the field on the 150th anniversary of the birth of the country we all love? Regardless of what we may think of the Riders and their fans, the rivalry has been a great feature of the game and the (mostly) genial sniping between both provinces. This is truly a once in a lifetime event and an inauguration of a great new stadium. Nobody close me had better die, because I ain't gonna miss this.
