Well, well. It appears that Jones' master plan is going perfectly. Moving from head-shaking to guffaws right to belly laughs.

That's exactly where he should stay. The linebacker position can't be trumped by flexibility in this case. Be flexible somewhere else.
I think Walters missed the boat with Alex Singleton. He seems to be doing very well in Calgary.

Overall this is our deepest team we've had in years and probably the best depth we've had at NI. For that I'll give Walters a lot of credit he's built a good fundamental team.
Overall absolutely, but it remains to be seen if Hurl will be our undoing. It will take a lot of lane discipline from the front four to compensate.

Don't want to turn this into a Kaepernick thread but look at the guy physically. He's lighter & much thinner than he used to be. He doesn't have the strength he used to have. He seemed to regress as a qb since Harbaugh left & makes wrong decisions with his reads or often seems confused when he played. Carroll won't get rid of Russell Wilson to make him his starter so there's that. If Carroll likes him as much as you say then why not sign him to back up Wilson? That deal was supposed to happen in April but hasn't. The hold up or failure is probably over money & the reluctance to pay Kap what he thinks he deserves as well as the baggage he'd bring with him to the locker room. The other thing if the NFL deems the guy to no longer be an NFL qb for whatever reason then his career is over.
I have read that Kaepernick became a vegan about a year ago and since then he has lost both weight and about 20% of his strength. If true, this would make him a lot more vulnerable to being injured and take a lot off his tosses.

I don't know if it was the quality of the resistance that the Riders put up, but the Lions sure as spit looked like a team that was going to challenge the Stamps for first place overall in the league. If this is true, then O'Shea and Walters had better bring their A-game this season because the Esks do not look like pushovers, either.
-
I suspect that the Riders are going to experience first-hand what we went through with Kelly and Burke.

I was rooting for Butcher, but either you have the right stuff or you don't.

again they play different position.
The point is that Okpalaugo is earning a big dollar and hasn't stood out for two games now. The money could be better spent elsewhere-ie: MLB.

I have not been a fan of Hurl. If he is standing in the right spot and the play comes to him, he can cope. He doesn't seem to be able to recognize the unfolding play in time to flow to the right spot. If Poop Johnson is as good as or better than Okapalaugo, there's money to saved there, and maybe we can trade him for a good MLB.

Was listening to John Hodge interview on 1290 this afternoon on way home. Hodge opined that the Bomber O-line was probably the best in the league, that Poop Johnson way outplayed Okapalaugo (making Okapalaugo expendable?) and that Hurl did poorly at MLB with Knox only marginally better if at all. He also had concerns about the Bombers defence in general.

Doesn't look to be too many surprises this year in camp.

Let's see if Tracker and Mr. Dee can restrain themselves from stating the obvious on this one.
No complaint on Liggins. He showed some promise but no consistency, and we appear to be good at Import receiver positions.

Global comes through again with the nice highlights package.
Thank God that at least one of the local media cares enough to expend a bit of effort to cover the Bombers.

^ looks pretty accurate, but I sure there will be a surprise or two.

I'm not sure that the recap is worth the effort to click on the link.

as a MLB he left something to be desired. It was often a criticism about him about playing out of position. He was a good WIL, but with Wild already there Bass got pushed over to the middle where his play was pretty much the definition of mediocre.
I'm a little concerned about our LB crew to have edm's rb run with ease on us in the first half. Hopefully the next 2 weeks we focus on correcting some of the things we did wrong tonight
Bass was very good as a WIL but he didn't seem to be able to grasp the duties of a middle linebacker and was often behind the play.

uh, wut? He was the definition of average lol. he wasn't sub par but he wasn't great. he was steady but not spectacular.
He was so sub-par he was replaced by a mediocre MLB- Bass.

No TV. Bombers & Toronto have no televised pre-season games this year.
Spit. That's what I thought, but thanks anyways.

Is the game tonight televised?

Seems odd that only the Bombers and the Lions have made any cuts so far. I guess one perspective is that teams that are holding off don't want to influence the cuts of other teams by making certain players (ie. vets) available before the deadline. Looking at you Hufnagel.
And that's why Huffer is the heir-apparent to Wally the Whiz.

Kelly knowing the game???? That was his biggest downfall... that Offense at the beginning was terrible.
Burke's issue was that he was not a leader and the guys did not give a **** at all.
Kelly also had the database and they brought in much better talent....
I'm gonna argue that one. Kelly had crap for quarterbacks which led to a terrible offence but he treated fans and media with contempt. Burke was just utterly clueless and he knew it.

not just a matter of being better, but having a greater impact as a non-import in a certain position than a non-import in another potential position. I think the potential improvement of temple or knox over Hurl is not as great as the potential improvement of Poop/other import DL over Thomas/Butcher/Ekaitie. Im ok with Hurl as a starting MLB if our DL can dominate LOS like the swaggerville days.
Possibly so, but in the swagger days, we had a pretty good set of linebackers. The linemen could just pin their ears back and charge knowing that if anyone slipped past them, they wouldn't get far. Hurl doesn't have to be an all-star but he has to be at least average for this to work, and he hasn't been so far.

Even in the last game, when Glenn got sacked for the first time, the following play , he started demonstrating his choreography. Over at Riderfans, criticism disguised as confusion and disappointment is beginning to surface. Several posters were even saying that this was what they had expected from Jones. Heresy abounds.
